Chapter 399 No Reconciliation
Lawrence was unaware that the woman's body had gone cold. He leaned down to gaze at her tenderly, unable to resist brushing aside her long hair as he aimed to plant a kiss on her cheek. "Winnie..." His voice was low. Winnie was snapped back to her senses. She turned her head and saw the cold expression on the stern face before her. For a moment, she couldn't distinguish between the photo and reality. She simply felt an immense weight on her chest, as if she had been crushed by a heavy boulder.
The pressure was unbearable, making it hard for her to breathe. The photo, timestamped at 3 pm that afternoon, was sent by Darcy. It was now 5 pm. She observed his well-groomed appearance, wondering how he could match Sidney's description of him: tirelessly working at Island Electronics, consumed by self-reproach to the extent of fasting. She thought he would at least show a bit of concern for Oscar, and be as distraught as she was. However, he didn't. He could have realized Darcy's true nature, argued with her, and at the same time, gone on a date with a new girl. It felt like she barely knew this man. Tears welled up in Winnie's eyes, and at that moment, her anger was hard to restrain. "Winnie, what's wrong with you?" Lawrence felt her detached gaze, furrowing his brows in confusion. Winnie coldly threw her phone at his chest, her rage simmering beneath the surface. As she did, she reminded herself that the message was sent by Darcy, gritting her teeth to maintain her composure. She forced a smile and asked, "Where were you this afternoon, and what were you doing?" "I..." Lawrence was caught off guard by her sudden outburst. However, he couldn't reveal where he was. Not about his mother's illness, not about finding the only donor, and especially not about the conditions they mentioned. Instinctively, he had to hide it even more. He casually smiled and replied, "Why do you ask? I was at the company this afternoon. Are you checking up on me?" Winnie smirked coldly. She had given him a chance to explain, but he didn't take it. If he lied, it would only confirm that he was out with a young girl. She slowly picked up her phone, disregarding her son's presence, and held it up in front of the man's face. Her eyes and heart were equally cold as she sarcastically laughed, "Lawrence, next time you decide to cheat, remember to clean up after yourself. Well, our relationship isn't exactly cheating, it's more like sneaking around, taking advantage of our son's disappearance and your mother being in the hospital. How delightful, what an exhilarating experience!" Lawrence’s expression froze when he saw the photo. He never expected that he and the girl would be secretly photographed at the movie theater and used against him. With a grim face, he snatched back Winnie's phone and questioned coldly, "Who gave you this photo?! Things aren't what you think, Winnie! Nothing is going on." "Nothing? No fun and games? I thought you would remember Oscar, your missing son! But he means nothing to you since you never met him, never raised him. He's gone, and you're not even trying to find him. Yet you have the audacity to find a new lover?!" As Winnie spoke, she began to lose control. Her emotions teetered on the brink of collapse, and she came to the realization that Lawrence's involvement with Darcy went beyond mere infidelity. She had seriously misjudged this man. Lawrence froze at her words, met with her angry and icy demeanor, and felt his heart sink. She had misunderstood him, accusing him for not caring about Oscar. While anyone could misunderstand him, it was particularly painful coming from her. Her words felt like knives piercing through his heart. It seemed she didn't understand how much Oscar's disappearance had affected him. There was no reason for him to go to Trento City for a mere speculation from Jeremy if he didn't care for Oscar. She had even painted him as a womanizer, only knowing how to find women. Lawrence's frustration surged within him. He struggled to justify his presence at the movie theater. Growing increasingly agitated, he directed his gaze at her and uttered, "I'll say it again, I wasn't with any women. These days haven't been any better for me, Winnie. You don't need to be bitter and sarcastic, mocking me in every way. I don't want any other woman besides you. I only want to reconcile with you!" He had to carry the burden of his son's disappearance and the pressure of his mother potentially dying at any moment. He was definitely not any better off than her. Winnie sneered coldly at his pleas. She knew those photos weren't edited. Ultimately, he didn't offer any explanation and maintained his dominant and overbearing demeanor. They were divorced now, their son was lost, and their relationship was on the brink of collapse. He had no obligation to explain anything to his ex-wife.
As these thoughts echoed in her mind, her heart turned completely cold. She shook her head and looked at him, suddenly calm. "No need for sweet words anymore. I can see now, the heart you want to 'reconcile' with."
She then let out a bitter laugh, her pale lips pursed. "Reconciliation? Not possible! Lawrence, let me reiterate once again: I despise you more than anyone because of Oscar. Every hurtful action you took with Darcy is etched deep in my mind, haunting me relentlessly. Frankly, you don't comprehend. "What does it matter if Darcy knows the truth? I would rather you remained ignorant of the truth and continue to be deceived by Darcy, at least then Oscar wouldn't be lost! I don't care about you at all. I have no expectations of you anymore. Do you want to reconcile and play with my feelings? Let me tell you today, don't even dream of it because I will never forgive you! There is no possibility of us being together." Lawrence stood there, tall and gloomy, like a demon, but his body and emotions were frozen as if in an icy wasteland. Listening to the woman's heartless and cold words, he laughed bitterly. His eyes turned red, swirling in darkness. Even his own mother's offer of forgiveness felt hollow amidst the turmoil. Her words implied that he was not worthy, suggesting she found his desire to reconcile ridiculous and pathetic. She had long since stopped caring about him. He was foolish to ever say that he loved her, especially considering he was willing to disregard his mother's life and not betray her. His nervousness, anticipation, and affection toward her had become a joke at this moment. She decided not to wait for him any longer, signaling the end of their relationship and a definitive split. How disdainful she must be of him, to use the words "daydream" like that, suggesting a loss of respect. The inherent arrogance in men seemed to have been suppressed. Since she had no intention of dying, he didn't need to plead and act less like a man. After all, a woman could live without a man, and he was keenly aware of that fact. Lawrence sneered coldly, "Won't forgive me? Do I really care that much? If you don't want to reconcile, then fine, we don't have to. There are plenty of women in the world for me!"
He nodded irritably, his legs retreating. His heart ached intensely, as if he were losing something crucial, something he didn't want to lose but she wouldn't give him a chance. Not even the slightest chance. Lawrence felt the frigid coldness to his core. It was pointless to stay there any longer. She had never welcomed him. He forcefully picked up the agitated Sidney, who was crying and pleading at them not to fight, and walked out, passing the boy to Luke. "Take Sidney to the car!" "I don't want to go Daddy! You go and persuade Mommy. Apologize to her. It's normal for girls to get mad. She doesn't really want to separate." Sidney's legs kicked in distress. Lawrence hesitated to exit the apartment, feeling bitter and angry. "Stop lying to me!" He didn't want to hear those heartless words again. He then angrily stormed out of the apartment.
Downstairs, Rock got out of the car, holding a bouquet of flowers in his hands. As Rock and Lawrence walked toward each other, their eyes met abruptly. Both men, equally imposing, halted in their steps, and a surge of anger flashed in Lawrence's eyes. Seeing Rock with the bouquet, Lawrence was certain that Rock was heading to see Winnie. Rock approached, nodding with a smile. The cold figure of the man shifted, directly blocking Rock's way. "What are you doing here?" "Lawrence, were you kicked out?" Rock sneered without a care. He then moved a little closer, leaning against Lawrence's side, squinting his eyes, and looking up at the building as he spoke, "Naturally, I'm here to visit Winnie. Her son is missing and she is heartbroken, Lawrence." During these days that Lawrence was unaware of, every night, someone was comforting her. He pondered how Rock was comforting her each night. Lawrence could barely think, consumed by anger and jealousy. This woman didn't want to reconcile with him, saying hurtful and heartless things, and the next moment, Rock came to see her. It seemed she was eager to break up with him and find a replacement. Lawrence's eyes turned red, and in an instant, he explosively lunged toward Rock. "Daddy!" Sidney exclaimed from the car. Upstairs, Winnie heard her son's cry of alarm, followed by the sound of fighting. Elliott and George both came out and exclaimed, "Looks like a fight!" Winnie paused for a moment, her teary eyes still red, and quickly rushed downstairs.
