Chapter 680 Resistance
Rock slapped on a grin to hide his nerves and said, "Ms. Stewart's got a point, Winnie. No more secretaries hitching a ride in my car next time."
"Rock, chill out," Winnie shot back.
Melanie chimed in, satisfied, "Winnie, you deserve Mr. Harrington's attention. Look, you made him mad, and you immediately bought him a fancy tie. Mr. Harrington, you better take the gift."
Rock's heart skipped a beat, and he gazed at Winnie with deep affection.
Winnie shot Melanie a death glare, but Melanie bolted, leaving Winnie feeling all kinds of awkward.
The car started moving again.
By the third time Rock glanced over, Winnie had no choice but to pull out a gift box from her bag, revealing a dark blue tie inside.
"Looks pricey," Rock said, grinning ear to ear. "Winnie, this is the first time you've bought me something. I'm stoked. But don't blow your cash like that. I should be the one spoiling you."
"It's not that expensive," Winnie mumbled, holding up the tie. "It suits you."
"I love it," Rock said, his Adam's apple bobbing. Winnie's mind flashed to Lawrence's Adam's apple.
Lawrence had this long neck with a super prominent Adam's apple, totally sexy. When it moved, it oozed male charm.
His collarbone was also on point. In a fitted white shirt, his lean and strong collarbone stood out.
He almost always wore a tie, shirt buttoned up to the top, except when he was with her. Then it was lazily unbuttoned, giving off a restrained vibe.
'Why am I thinking about Lawrence again?' she wondered.
Winnie sighed and refocused. "I'll put it away for you."
"Leave it here. I wanna wear it tomorrow and every day after that!" Rock raised an eyebrow playfully, holding her hand and apologizing softly, "Winnie, I messed up that day. I'm sorry. I was too caught up in my own anger and forgot you're a mom. It's natural for you to worry about them. I later realized that even though I can't stand Lawrence, I support your decision to drop the appeal."
Winnie was taken aback and said, feeling a bit guilty, "Don't say that. I was selfish, making you go through a lot."
"Alright, let's make up and not fight anymore." Rock said, patting her hair affectionately.
Winnie smiled slightly.
But as the car neared Dazzling Estate, she couldn't help but ask, "Rock, I didn't expect you at tonight's auction. Did the Peterson family tip you off? But I remember you haven't been in Trento City long and don't seem to know the Peterson family."
Rock lowered his eyes and turned off the car. "The Harrington Group has some business with the Peterson Group."
He looked sincere, "Winnie, the Peterson family is top dog in Veridiania now, and I can't go against them. I was ticked off by Ronnie's low bidding tonight, but there's nothing I can do. You don't have any issues with me, do you?"
Winnie shook her head, thinking, 'I can't blame Rock, but suddenly he doesn't seem as responsible as I thought. If it were Lawrence with his decisive nature... Why am I comparing Rock to Lawrence again?'
Winnie was at a loss for words but couldn't shake the thought that Lawrence, despite all his flaws, had grown up under pressure in Lymington and was undeniably responsible. In that department, Rock just didn't measure up.
When they got home, Rock parked the car.
Just as Winnie was about to get out, he grabbed her slender hand and said, eyes full of emotion, "Winnie, I'm crashing here tonight."
His tone was firm, and Winnie hesitated, pulling her hand away and saying softly, "I'll set up the guest room for you."
In the guest room, Winnie quickly changed the bed sheets.
In the dim, soft light, a hot male body suddenly hugged her from behind.
Winnie immediately knew it was Rock. Her body tensed up, but Rock didn't stop. Instead, he pushed her forward onto the bed.
"Winnie," His breathing was heavy, and his warm breath brushed against her face. He said with intense eyes, "Can you stay here tonight? We're married, and I've been holding back for too long, Winnie."
Winnie's eyes widened, her mind in chaos, especially when his hand started unbuttoning her nightgown. She couldn't control herself and tried to push him away.
"Mommy!" Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door, and Sidney's agitated voice broke through.
Without thinking, Winnie took the chance to escape from Rock's embrace and said, "You little rascal. Rock, I'm sorry. Sidney's probably throwing a fit, wanting me to give him a bath! You should get some rest!"
Watching her hurriedly escape, Rock's gentle eyes turned dark.
'I'm not an idiot. I can feel Winnie's aversion to my touch. She resists me so much but was willing to endure Lawrence's forcefulness. Winnie, saying you've forgotten Lawrence is all a lie!' he thought.
In the downstairs bathroom, Winnie and Sidney faced each other. She was embarrassed and distracted.
She hadn't expected her body to resist Rock so much.
But she was now his legal wife, and this was something she couldn't avoid forever.
"What are you standing there for? Aren't you going to give me a bath?" Sidney pouted, a bit angry.
Winnie turned and picked up the showerhead, but then heard Sidney say something shocking, "Mommy, were you trying to make a baby brother with Rock just now?"
Winnie was so startled that she coughed, her face turning red, and she said, "What nonsense are you talking about? Who told you such things?"
"It's daddy," Sidney said, looking up with a longing gaze. "Before you came back to the country, daddy was like a nagging male nanny. He was afraid I'd become introverted, so he forced me to go to kindergarten. But he was also afraid I'd cause trouble, so he taught me many gentlemanly rules, like not holding a girl's hand because it could make her pregnant. He said he wouldn't acknowledge the baby if it was born."
Winnie was speechless as she thought, 'Lawrence's way of educating is really nonsensical. How can he say such childish things to a kid? In the past, he played both father and mother roles,' she thought.
"But Jeremy always encouraged me to play with girls to annoy daddy," Sidney said with a smile.
Thinking of Jeremy's disappearance, Winnie felt melancholic again.
"Mommy! I don't like you being like that with Rock." Sidney suddenly turned, speaking seriously. "I want you to sleep with me and Oscar from now on."
