Chapter 829 Apologizing to Carlos
"Winnie, Carlos can go for the MRI now." From the other end of the hallway, Lawrence strode over, his tall and imposing figure exuding a cold aura.
Carlos was holding onto Winnie, asking about the recent news and the turmoil at the Blanchet Group. He glanced at the approaching figure and was shocked to see it was Lawrence, his furrowed brow deepening.
"Carlos," Lawrence called out in a low voice.
Carlos completely ignored him and didn't show any friendliness. He directly questioned Winnie, "Winnie, I saw the news too, but I thought it was fake. How could you really be with Lawrence?"
He was filled with wild thoughts. "Is it because you got entangled with Lawrence that Rock couldn't take it, and that's why he decided to retaliate against the Blanchet Group? So he deliberately came to see me last time and gave me some kind of drug. As a result, I made a mistake and signed a contract I knew nothing about."
"Maria, didn't I tell you not to turn on the TV?" Winnie was afraid Carlos would get too emotional and turned to look at Maria.
"Don't change the subject! Every hallway in the hospital has a TV hanging. I was bound to see it. Winnie, tell me, what exactly is going on?"
"How did I end up signing a contract that was detrimental to the Blanchet Group? I didn't authorize Rock to become the head of the Blanchet Group!"
Carlos felt deeply guilty, thinking he had made a wrong decision due to his illness.
Winnie firmly held Carlos's agitated arm, her eyes filled with unspoken guilt, "You didn't do anything wrong! The despicable one is Rock. You probably guessed it; I asked you about some things a few days ago. You fell into Rock and Ishara's trap!"
"Dad, it's my fault. I've been busy investigating Olivia's disappearance and neglected you. This led to Rock drugging you and Ishara exploiting your familial affection to trick you into signing the contract!"
"The drug you took had memory-confusing components, so you didn't know you signed the contract."
Carlos was momentarily dazed but finally understood the whole situation. He had been shrewd all his life, only to be deceived by Ishara, whom he had raised as his daughter.
Ishara, the child of Eleanor and Patrick, was just as bad.
He punched the hospital bed, his once clear and handsome face suddenly looking older, "I never thought the Blanchet Group, the third largest in Veridiania, would be destroyed by my own hands. I was so foolish! I actually thought Rock was a good person, that he was good to you, Winnie."
"I only recently saw his true colors," Winnie choked out coldly.
Lawrence placed his large hand on her slender shoulder, frowning as he faced Carlos, "Carlos, don't blame yourself for the Blanchet Group's situation. If anyone's to blame, it's me for not warning Winnie enough. Rock is very good at pretending and being patient. He stayed by Winnie's side for three years without making a single mistake."
He added, "If I hadn't crashed his wedding, he wouldn't have sought revenge on Winnie so quickly. After the Rodriguez Family fell, he kept suppressing me, trying to destroy me. All these actions exposed him."
Carlos, who had been unconscious and unaware of these events, was completely enraged. He glared at Lawrence and shouted angrily, "Is that so? No wonder Rock targeted Winnie. In the end, it's all your fault, you bastard!"
"You crashed Winnie's wedding? Lawrence, I'm going to beat you to death." As Winnie's father, Carlos clenched his fists, seething with anger.
Winnie couldn't bear to see him get angry and hurt himself. Bringing up past events was pointless.
She quickly grabbed Carlos, who was in a wheelchair, and saw that Lawrence was standing there motionless, as if waiting for Carlos to hit him. She was furious and signaled him with her eyes, "You should leave now!"
But Lawrence remained unmoved, giving her a deep look, his solemn face calm, "Carlos, if I had to choose again, I'd rather die than not crash the wedding."
"Shut up! Winnie was doing fine, and you ruined her life! You were engaged to Ishara while having children with her. How could you be so heartless? Get out of here!"
Carlos had been unconscious for too long and didn't know many things.
Lawrence looked steadily at Winnie, not intending to explain why he got engaged to Ishara.
Winnie knew Carlos had deep misunderstandings about Lawrence.
A sense of helplessness choked her, but she also knew Lawrence wasn't innocent. She could only try to calm Carlos down, "Dad, now is not the time to blame him."
Carlos patted his chest, barely suppressing his anger, and pointed at Lawrence, "Since I'm awake, I'll make sure to settle all these accounts for Winnie!"
"You're right. For all the harm I've caused Winnie, you have every right to kill me," Lawrence said firmly, without hesitation.
Winnie's heart skipped a beat. She pursed her lips and glanced at him, trying to suppress her inner turmoil with a cold expression.
Lawrence, a man so proud, was now almost groveling in front of Carlos.
It didn't seem like he was trying to please him, though.
She hadn't expected him to admit his mistakes so thoroughly in front of Carlos. What was he trying to do?
"Lawrence, I need to talk to my dad. You should leave."
"Carlos needs to get his MRI done."
"Get out! I need to ask Winnie some questions." Carlos didn't show him any respect.
Lawrence looked at Carlos's pale face and worried expression. His cold eyes narrowed slightly, easily guessing what Carlos was anxious about. It was nothing more than...
He smirked and crouched down to speak softly to Carlos in the wheelchair, "I know you're worried that Winnie won't be able to handle the Blanchet Group being taken over by Rock. But you really don't need to blame yourself. If anyone's at fault, it's all on me. I'm the one who made Rock hate Winnie.
"So, in this battle, I already have a plan. Winnie is not as fragile as you think. Just now, Lysander called. Winnie has set a trap. If Rock dares to invest a hundred billion dollars into the Blanchet Group, I can ensure he won't get that money back. Then, internal and external troubles will await Rock."
Carlos was stunned. The contract he signed essentially handed the Blanchet Group over to Rock.
Was there still a way out for the Blanchet Group? He looked at Winnie.
Winnie nodded confidently at Carlos, "The plan was Lawrence's idea, and I think it's feasible. Rock thinks he's won ninety percent. He won't give up."
Carlos asked, "But what's the point of tricking him into investing a hundred billion dollars? Winnie, you won't get that money! What if he quickly takes over the Blanchet Group and the money goes back to him? The Blanchet Group will still lose!"
"It won't happen," Lawrence said coldly, a murderous glint in his eyes. "In at most half a month, the technology I've introduced from NexaCore Group will be ready for market. Then you'll see him fail. That will also be the best time for Winnie to get a divorce. I will help you and Winnie protect the Blanchet Group!"
