Chapter 945 Critical Moment
"Alright, send me Ian's number," Ray said quickly. "I'll come to you as soon as I get the paternity test results."
"Yeah, let's do that. I'll go stall Mr. DeRoss."
After discussing the plan, Winnie ran outside the church and saw Louis getting into a black Bentley, speeding off in a rage.
The car headed down the hill from the church, not towards the city, but towards Lymington Bay.
Did Jeremy take Olivia there? Winnie waited for a moment, then quickly followed.
Just as her car was halfway there, nearing the bay, Winnie received a call from Ray. "Not good, Ian's in trouble. I called him, and he suddenly went silent!"
"I didn't have time to drop Mia off. I'm heading to Ian's location right now. He said he was on the airport road. Could it be a car accident?"
"Car accident?" Winnie frowned, then squinted her eyes and suddenly said, "It can't be a coincidence. Mr. Martin, get there as fast as you can. No matter what, you must get that stamped paternity test!"
Ray processed her words, then slammed his foot on the gas pedal, cursing, "Could it be Lynn's doing? Damn, isn't Lynn at the police station right now? Check on that."
"I'll call the police station to find out and use Lawrence's influence to apply pressure."
Winnie said, "Mr. Martin, you must protect Ian and get..."
"I'll get the paternity test, damn it!" Ray swore and hung up the phone.
Winnie looked at the disconnected call, her brows furrowed tightly. She continued driving, following Louis's speeding Bentley, while dialing the Lymington police station.
The officer there answered and needed to verify the situation.
A few minutes later, they called Winnie back. "Ms. Anderson, hello. Lynn is currently being questioned at the police station for injuring someone at the wedding and being reported for involvement in Sam's murder. However, she has a very skilled lawyer present. Since the recording released by Ms. Smith is inadmissible in court, there isn't enough evidence to hold Lynn... You..."
"Not enough evidence? You can take your time finding it! Are you just going to let her lawyer bail her out? Isn't intentional injury enough to hold her for 48 hours? How much did the Smith Family pay you?" Winnie demanded, her voice cold.
The officer, sweating, explained, "You can't accuse us like that. We don't do such things."
"If I find out you took bribes, remember, I have Lawrence backing me. If Lawrence pursues this, you'll pay for protecting Lynn!"
Under pressure, the officer's face turned pale, and he quickly changed his tone. "I just learned that Lynn's lawyer has processed her bail, but she hasn't been released yet. Ms. Anderson, rest assured, even if we can't gather evidence for her other crimes or get a confession from Sam, her intentional injury is enough to hold her for 48 hours."
"Then make sure she stays in custody!" Winnie ordered, then hung up the phone. She suddenly realized something and rubbed her temples.
Lynn's lawyer must have arranged for her to communicate with the outside world while processing her bail. Lynn must have instructed someone to intercept Ian.
Damn Lynn, still causing trouble?
Winnie immediately called Ray again, but he didn't answer, likely due to the urgency of the situation.
Winnie sent a voice message: "Mr. Martin, it seems Lynn has targeted Ian and sent someone to interfere. You have enough people with you; those goons should be easy to deal with. Make sure to get our evidence quickly!"
Inside the Lymington police station, Lynn had just received her expensive jewelry and bag from an officer and was about to leave with her servant's help when the chief walked over. Seeing her, he frowned and questioned the officer, "Who authorized her release?"
Lynn, sensing something was wrong, smiled at the chief. "Didn't you just agree with my father in your office? If there's anything else you need, I can have my father invite a higher-up to dine with you and discuss your promotion."
She thought her words, implying pressure from a higher authority, would let her go.
Unexpectedly, the chief's face turned cold and stern. "Detain Ms. Smith immediately. She can't leave for 48 hours due to intentional injury, and she's also involved in a murder case that hasn't even begun to be investigated."
"Sir? Why are you going back on your word? My lawyer clearly communicated with you. I didn't intentionally injure anyone, and I've paid the bail..."
"Blame yourself for making too many enemies, some with stronger connections than yours!" the chief said impatiently and walked away.
The officer who had been polite to Lynn now changed his demeanor, taking back her coat and bag, and coldly led the way. "Lynn, follow me to the holding cell."
"Father, Mother!" Lynn called out softly.
Noah rushed over from the window, shaking his head urgently, indicating he had already used his connections. He whispered to her, "Daughter, I found out this isn't pressure from the DeRoss Family. Jeremy is too busy to deal with you right now...
It's that damn Winnie causing trouble. We sent someone to intercept the person delivering the paternity test, and Winnie came after you!
I also heard Louis is furious about Jeremy marrying Olivia and is rushing to stop him. But that meddling Winnie is also heading there. She must be planning to reveal the paternity test to Louis. Once Jeremy finds out what you've been hiding, he'll tear our Smith Family apart!"
Lynn's eyes widened, cold and panicked.
That bitch Winnie, she's not simple. She's been waiting for this opportunity, aiming to expose her past crimes in front of everyone and clear Mia's name?
No, I can't let her succeed, and I can't let Olivia reunite with Jeremy and their daughter!
Noah received a text message, his face darkening. "Ms. Ordelia said Mr. Martin is heading to the airport road with his men. Our people might not be able to stop him. But she also mentioned seeing a little girl with Mr. Martin, and she said this is a golden opportunity for you?"
