Chapter 963 Take Her Back to the DeRoss Villa
Just as Jeremy was about to ask something, he noticed Mia's expression growing tense, just like her mom's. He quickly interrupted, "Hey, the kid just woke up. Let's not bombard her with questions. We don't want her to get confused. Doc, to be safe, let's do a digestive tract screening for my daughter."
"No, I don't want any tests," Mia said, her voice trembling with fear.
Jeremy's heart ached for her, but he had to rule out the possibility that Darcy, that vile woman, had given her something harmful. He picked up his daughter with a gentle but firm grip. "It's okay, sweetie. Don't be scared. I'll be with you the whole time. It'll be over before you know it."
He wrapped Mia in a towel and carried her in one arm as the doctor led the way to the examination room.
Olivia followed, taking a moment to call Yasmin. "Mom, is Winnie in the operating room? How's Dad doing?"
"The doctor allowed Winnie in! The surgery is still ongoing. God, I hope your father pulls through this," Yasmin said, her voice filled with worry. "Has Mia woken up?"
"Yeah, she's awake. Jeremy's taking her for some tests."
Olivia watched Jeremy's tall figure from a distance, Mia looking so small on his shoulder. They had always been close, even before she knew the truth. The sight brought a bittersweet warmth to her heart.
"Jeremy? Why is he taking care of the child?" Yasmin was puzzled. She knew about Jeremy and Olivia's past, but Mia was supposed to be Sam's child. It didn't make sense for Jeremy to be involved.
"Olivia, don't let Mia suffer under Jeremy's care. It's bad enough he forced you into this. Protect Mia..."
"Mom," Olivia hesitated for a few seconds before deciding to tell Yasmin the truth. "Actually, Mia is Jeremy's biological child, not Sam's. We just found out."
"What? How can that be? Weren't you with Sam back then..." Yasmin was shocked.
Olivia let out a bitter laugh. "Fate played a cruel trick on us. Jeremy and I had no idea. I was foolishly deceived by a fake paternity test from Sam. It was Winnie who first suspected Lynn and secretly did a test between Mia and Jeremy. The results were unbelievable.
That night, it was Jeremy who... forced me.
Neither of us remembered, and Lynn took advantage of that for three whole years."
"Oh my God," Yasmin gasped, covering her mouth in disbelief. She felt a pang of sorrow for Olivia and wiped away her tears. "Mia is his child... I don't know if that's good or bad, but Jeremy is definitely better than that scumbag Sam. At least Jeremy has a good heart.
How did he react when he found out?"
"He always liked Mia, so when he learned the truth, he seemed regretful for not recognizing her sooner."
"That's good, that's good. My poor Mia, she deserves better."
"She will be. Mia is smart and lovable."
"And what about you and Jeremy?" Yasmin couldn't help but shift the topic to Olivia, her voice filled with both worry and a glimmer of hope. "Since your child is his, maybe for Mia's sake, you two could..."
"I don't want to talk about that right now," Olivia cut her off, feeling overwhelmed by the rapid changes. She felt like an ostrich, wanting to hide and avoid thinking about her and Jeremy's future.
"You shouldn't have to suffer either. Jeremy needs to earn your love properly, or I won't agree to it! He owes you for all the years of humiliation you endured. Everyone in Lymington mocked you for being violated... He should take responsibility!"
"Mom, please, stop. Dad is still in surgery. Why are you bringing this up now?" Olivia's tone was exasperated.
Yasmin finally fell silent, her mood slightly lifted. If Sam were replaced by Jeremy, the young and influential heir of the DeRoss family, maybe the Smith family would finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Feeling a bit comforted, she said, "Alright, I won't say more. I'll wait for your dad to come out of surgery. You take care of Mia. Maybe our days are about to get better. Karma will catch up with Lynn and her lot!"
"Yes, I'll make sure Mia and Dad get justice for what they've been through," Olivia said, her eyes turning cold.
Not long after hanging up, the results of Mia's digestive tract screening came back.
Thankfully, there were no traces of drugs in Mia's stomach. Jeremy let out a cold snort. "It looks like Darcy didn't have time to do anything, or she knew the consequences of harming my child."
Olivia shuddered at the memory. "She kidnapped Oscar and Sidney before, and Winnie exposed her. Now she's in police custody. Lynn and the kidnappers know her, so there will be conflicts."
"As long as Ray doesn't protect her, Darcy won't get out!" Jeremy's voice was icy.
He narrowed his eyes, a chilling determination in his gaze. It was time to deal with Lynn's family once and for all.
He looked at Mia's injured face, his anger simmering.
Back in the hospital room, the DeRoss family's old butler appeared with two servants waiting at the door.
Seeing Jeremy, the butler bowed respectfully and delivered a message from Louis. "Mr. Jeremy DeRoss, Mr. Louis DeRoss has learned that you found the child. He sent me to convey that he wants you to bring her back so he can see her personally. Also, he wants a new paternity test done."
The butler glanced at the little girl in Jeremy's arms. Her face was bruised, but still showed her delicate features. The girl's resemblance to Jeremy was striking.
Previously, everyone thought she was Sam's daughter. But now, seeing her next to Jeremy, the similarity was undeniable.
Jeremy looked down at the elderly butler. Louis had sent many people to help find Mia, so he must have received the news immediately. Louis hadn't obstructed him and had even assisted.
Jeremy understood Louis's intentions. He wanted to see Mia himself and didn't fully trust the damaged test from Winnie. But with Mia safe, doing another paternity test was easy.
Jeremy's voice was cold and firm. "I understand. You can go back now."
The butler insisted, "Mr. Jeremy DeRoss, I brought servants to care for the child. Mr. Louis DeRoss wants you to bring her to the DeRoss Villa immediately. He doesn't like delays in uncertain matters. I also checked with the doctor; the child's injuries are mostly external. The DeRoss Villa has a fully equipped medical room. We can discharge her now."
"Discharge her now?" Olivia couldn't help but speak up. Were the DeRoss family planning to take Mia away?
