Chapter 634 Bob Falls Ill
Amy's heart favored Bob. "Dad, Mom has been unwell and resting at home these past few days. Please, try not to be upset."
"Tell her to get here right now!" Bob coughed, blood spattering, and staggered back a few steps. Lawrence swiftly reached out to steady him.
"I don't think Jeremy destroyed the chip," Bob said, gripping Lawrence's hand, trembling. "I can't hold on much longer, Lawrence. You have to handle this. Whoever you think the traitor is, make the call."
Lawrence nodded and handed Bob over to Amy.
He raised his voice, cutting through the shareholders' complaints. "The traitor isn't Jeremy. He's in serious danger, and we don't know his fate. He has no reason to betray the Peterson family. Sean, this is your last chance. If you confess what you did to Jeremy and in the lab, I might spare you."
Sean shouted, "I'm innocent! Lawrence is setting me up to protect his buddy! I'm no good; stealing that chip wouldn't benefit me. It wasn't me."
Lawrence clenched his fist and said to Anday, "Uncle Anday, I'm sorry, but he's stubborn."
"Lawrence."
"Bryan, call the police! They'll get the truth out of him."
"Dad, save me. I didn't do it." Sean was about to be taken away by the bodyguards.
Anday, panicking, rushed forward to stop them. "Lawrence, think it over. You have no proof right now. Why are you so sure it's Sean?"
"Because he was in the lab, Jeremy disappeared, and he came back to frame Jeremy."
Lawrence just wanted to force Sean to reveal Jeremy's whereabouts.
Jeremy's disappearance was a huge failure for him, even worse than the Rodriguez Group's crisis, causing him immense guilt.
"Uncle Anday, look at your son. His shifty eyes show his guilty conscience. Don't you know him?"
Anday was stunned but still pleaded, "Let me question him! Lawrence, for my sake..."
"You won't get anything out of him. Send him to the police!" Lawrence's firm and unyielding manner silenced the shareholders, who feared provoking him, leading to a bad outcome for everyone.
Lawrence glanced at the weary shareholders, signaling the end of the dispute. "Sean is my first explanation to everyone. It's late; you should all go home and rest."
"Rest?" Jones sneered angrily. "None of us can sleep. Lawrence, whether the chip was destroyed by Sean or Jeremy, the company is in chaos, and your Rodriguez family is in turmoil. How do you plan to fix this mess?"
Under the white light, Lawrence lowered his head, his thin lips pressed into a straight line. "I apologize for the financial losses caused to everyone. The Rodriguez Group is a legacy of several generations and won't collapse so easily. In the past decade, it has weathered many storms under my father's leadership. We are the top enterprise in Veridiania, valuing our reputation above all. The EWM chip breach will be fully compensated to those companies. If the money runs out, I'll use my personal account to protect the shareholders' interests. If the Rodriguez Group truly can't hold on, I'll resign and take full responsibility!"
After speaking, he supported Bob and left. Under the light, his silhouette remained imposing and tall.
The shareholders exchanged glances with a heavy sigh, sinking back into their seats.
Just as Lawrence had returned to his office, preparing to instruct Bryan to locate Jeremy and delve into the incident, a manager burst in. "Mr. Lawrence Rodriguez, something terrible has occurred. Mr. Bob Rodriguez faint in the car downstairs and is now being rushed to the hospital by Mr. Anday Rodriguez and the others."
A shadow passed over Lawrence's eyes. He swiftly grabbed his coat and dashed downstairs.
The vehicles arrived at the hospital in succession, and Bob was swiftly ushered into the emergency room.
Leah, trembling, trailed after her son, her resilient posture tinged with grief. "Bob, you can't leave me."
Lawrence stood by Leah, offering his support.
After more than two hours of emergency treatment, the doctor came out with a heavy expression. "Mr. Rodriguez was overstimulated, triggering a cerebellar infarction. The next 24 hours are critical. Do not let him be stimulated again, or it could lead to permanent paralysis."
Leah could hardly stand upon hearing this.
For the Rodriguez family, this was undoubtedly adding insult to injury. The company had just encountered trouble, and now Bob had collapsed.
Leah looked at Lawrence. "Lawrence, the burden of the family now rests entirely on your shoulders."
Lawrence remained silent, his heart pained as he looked towards the operating room.
At that moment, his phone rang. He turned and answered hoarsely, "Bryan, what is it?"
"Mr. Rodriguez! Sean was taken away from the police station before he could be interrogated. I found out that the chief released him. But the person pulling the strings is Mars. I opposed it in your name, but it was no use. Mars is backed by the rapidly rising Peterson family."
Lawrence's stern features suddenly darkened. He should have realized it earlier that Sean, a fool, wouldn't have had the guts to steal the chip without someone manipulating him.
Sean had become Mars's puppet.
Lawrence coldly ordered, "Send someone to the police station immediately to intercept Mars. Sean must not be taken away by him!"
Before he could finish speaking, his phone was suddenly snatched away.
Lawrence turned around to see that it was Anday who had taken the phone. His gaze was complex and evasive as he harshly turned off the phone. "Lawrence, let Sean go!"
"You knew he was released all along?" Lawrence stared at him, suddenly recalling that Anday had left for a while during the past two hours to take a phone call.
To bail someone out of the police station, a family member's authorization was required.
Lawrence gritted his teeth. "You agreed to let Mars bail Sean out?"
"I..." Anday's throat choked, his face full of anger. "I had no choice! He's my only son, but you want to send him to prison, which would ruin his life."
Lawrence pressed on. "Uncle Anday, you have already accepted in your heart that Sean is the one who stole the chip, haven't you? Jeremy is innocent, but he was harmed by Sean and Mars together, and now he is missing!"
"I'm not sure!" Anday said in agony. Anday knew Lawrence hated Sean. Sean was a scoundrel, a fool, but Sean was his only son.
Anday also knew how much effort Jeremy had put in to protect the lab these days.
Those shareholders slandered Jeremy, saying he monopolized the EWM chip contracts, but in reality, Jeremy was painstakingly trying to prevent an internal traitor.
However, Anday didn't expect his own son would betray the company.
"We can't let Mars take Sean; it's too dangerous," Lawrence said, vigilant and cold.
"So, should we let him die? Stealing the chip caused a loss of over fifty billion dollars. Sean would be sentenced to death."
