Chapter 708 Melanie Falls from the Building
"What?"
"There's so much blood."
"It's a young lady."
Winnie watched as a crowd rushed out of the bakery across the street, all looking down anxiously.
She pushed through the crowd and ran to the railing to get a better look.
The woman lying on the ground, bleeding, was indeed Melanie!
She was stunned and shouted, "Melanie? Move aside! This is my friend. She fell down. Someone help me call 911!"
Winnie turned around, quickly found the elevator, and bolted down as fast as she could.
Melanie was lying in a pool of blood. She had fallen near the observation elevator, and the sharp steps had cut her head open. Blood was gushing out, and her legs were bent, clearly broken.
"Melanie, wake up." Winnie squatted down, too afraid to move her. She could only take out her phone to call 911, but her hands were shaking so much that she couldn't hit the right button.
Suddenly, a large hand reached over and held her cold, trembling hand. He calmly pressed the numbers and checked Melanie's pupils, saying in a deep voice, "Stand up. I'll carry her."
Winnie turned around, extremely surprised. "Lawrence."
"The call is connected." Lawrence handed her the phone.
Winnie inexplicably calmed down a bit and immediately asked the hospital for help.
Lawrence went to a store to get a pair of disposable gloves, then carefully picked up Melanie. Winnie watched his actions; it seemed like he was preserving the scene.
Lawrence said, "Call the police, too."
"Call the police?" Winnie was confused.
He looked up and pointed upstairs, explaining, "That's where she fell from. Look, the railing is intact."
Winnie looked up sharply as she thought, 'The railing is intact. How can Melanie, an adult, have jumped over the railing for no reason?'
She quickly understood what Lawrence meant.
At that moment, the siren of an ambulance arriving could be heard outside the mall as Winnie hurriedly protected Melanie and ran out.
It wasn't until Melanie was placed on the stretcher that Winnie realized, Lawrence did happen to be in this mall.
She was a bit puzzled.
Lawrence's deep eyes flickered. He didn't dare say that he had just left The Ramirez Group, instinctively following them to the car.
"Just passing by. I was buying something for Sidney." Lawrence said in a low voice.
Winnie looked away. "You don't need to come up. There's nothing more to do. I'll go now."
The paramedic closed the door, shutting out her uneasy face.
Watching the ambulance leave, Lawrence thought for a moment and decided it was necessary to call Bentley.
Lawrence turned around into the mall, and frowned as he looked at the place where Melanie had fallen.
On the second floor of the mall, a figure slipped into the hallway and dialed a number. "Ishara, I pushed her off the second floor."
"You idiot, the second floor? Can she die from that?" Ishara's furious voice came through.
"I aimed for a steel bar below, but it didn't pierce her."
"I told you to wait for the right moment! I want Melanie dead. Did anyone see you? Did the mall manager call the police?" Ishara asked.
"No one saw me. But a man called the police." The other person lowered their voice.
"You useless fool, get lost." Ishara angrily hung up the phone.
Ever since the auction where she saw Bentley protecting Melanie, Ishara had been feeling uneasy.
Bentley clearly recognized Melanie as his girlfriend from four years ago abroad!
At that time, Ishara was jealous of Melanie for dating Bentley, so she got her expelled from school, and even gave her abortion pills, causing her to miscarry and lose her memory.
If Bentley found out about this, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Back then, it was just jealousy. Ishara couldn't stand Melanie doing better than her.
Now, her situation was already bad, and she couldn't afford to make another enemy. So she planned to kill Melanie, but the people around her were all useless.
Her stomach ached with anger. She glanced down and saw that her three-month-old baby bump was already showing, making her even more distressed.
Last time, she showed Mars the paternity test, but he still hadn't announced her as his girlfriend. Although she could attend events with him, she had no status. She had a feeling Mars was playing her! She thought she had to think of another way.
At the hospital, 10 PM.
After emergency treatment and examination, Melanie was confirmed to be out of danger and had been transferred to a regular ward.
After the anesthesia wore off, Melanie woke up.
Winnie was a bit flustered, paid the fees, and brought a cup of water to gently moisten her lips. "Melanie, you feeling any better?"
"Yeah, my head just hurts a bit, and I'm a little dizzy. What's wrong with my ankle?" Melanie asked.
"You're lucky. It's just a dislocated ankle. The doc already fixed it. Your dizziness and headache are due to a concussion and external injuries. Don't worry, you'll be fine," Winnie said gently.
Melanie smiled weakly. "I've never been lucky since I was a kid, always tough."
Hearing her words and looking at her delicate face, Winnie felt a pang in her heart.
Earlier, the doctor had asked for a family member's signature, and Winnie didn't know which of Melanie's family members to contact.
Melanie lived with her father in the Blanchet Family. Her father didn't love her, her stepmother despised her, and Patricia didn't like her either.
Winnie found Melanie's phone but couldn't find her dad's number.
In the end, she signed as her cousin.
Winnie still asked, "Melanie, should I contact your dad?"
"Him? He probably won't come. As for Angela and Ishara, they would be happy if something happened to me," Melanie sneered, looking indifferent. "No need to call them. Since I'm not in danger, I'll be discharged in a few days."
"Okay, are you hungry? I'll go get it for you." Winnie picked up her phone, about to leave when there was a knock on the door.
Then, Lawrence walked in under the bright lights, looking clean and neat. He had changed clothes, wearing a white T-shirt and dark casual pants. He looked taller and leaner, much younger than during the day.
Since Winnie returned to the country three years ago, she rarely saw him dressed casually.
Unexpectedly, he looked noble and elegant, exuding masculinity.
Winnie was annoyed at her distraction and frowned. "Why are you here again?"
"You're alone with her. I guess you're busy. You probably haven't had dinner yet." Lawrence gracefully placed some food containers on the side cabinet, his voice calm. "This porridge has been freshly cooked at a five-star hotel, along with some other food."
Winnie was speechless. "Thanks for the food, but we can order takeout ourselves."
Melanie was stunned, looking at Lawrence's handsome figure and then at Winnie's rejecting expression.
Melanie was actually very hungry. Smelling the porridge, she swallowed and refused, "Mr. Rodriguez, there is no need to trouble you! Besides, we're not that close."
