Chapter 18 The Bar Trap
A piercing scream echoed through the bar.
‘Mr. L, I’m sorry I couldn’t protect our child,’ Winnie thought to herself as she felt her heart break. She trembled violently as she closed her eyes in despair.
Just as the kick was about to land on Winnie’s stomach, the thug was suddenly kicked away!
When the anticipated did not come, Winnie opened her eyes. At the same time, she felt as though the temperature in the surroundings had dropped. When she discovered that she was no longer restrained and could move, she hurriedly protected her stomach with trembling hands.
In the next moment, Winnie’s eyes widened when she saw the tall and imposing figure in the narrow corridor. The man’s face was hidden behind a mask, and his gaze was icy as he dealt with the thugs.
"Mr. L?"
Winnie was surprised. At the same time, she felt ashamed about the situation she was in.
‘Isn’t he at a meeting? How could he be here?’
L clenched his hands before he turned around and crouched down in front of Winnie. When saw her disheveled state and her exposed skin, his eyes flashed murderously. Then, he shouted at the onlookers, “Get lost!”
Although his words were directed at the onlookers, Winnie froze in fear.
L removed his expensive jacket and covered Winnie’s body with it as he asked, “Are you okay?”
Winnie was frightened by his iciness, and it took a moment for her to reply to him. She carefully touched her stomach before she replied, “They didn’t manage to harm the baby. I swear…”
“What’s the point of swearing? Do you think it’s safe for a pregnant woman to come to a bar alone to meet strangers?” L asked mockingly.
Winnie glanced at the thugs, and she immediately realized that L had misunderstood her. She tried to explain, saying hoarsely, “Mr. L, it’s not what you think. I came here because…”
L did not give Winnie a chance to explain. He stood up and walked away. After confirming that the baby was fine, he no longer wanted to deal with her or listen to her excuse.
Winnie bit her lip, choking on her explanation. Although her body hurt, she forced herself to stand. It took her a few tries before she finally succeeded.
As she watched L leave, tears welled up in Winnie’s eyes. After all, she was already frightened, to begin with.
She quickly suppressed her tears and stumbled after L. She was grateful to him for saving her, and she wanted to have a proper conversation with him.
Alas, L did not give her a chance to speak. Instead, he entered a luxurious private room.
In the dark room, a man said lazily, “Mr. L, how did it go?”
The man was Benjamin. He glanced at Winnie who was standing at the doorway and said with a sneer, “I didn’t see your wife entering the room with strangers, who knows what would have happened?”
With this, Winnie also understood why L, who was supposedly in a meeting, appeared at the bar. His friend had notified him, but his friend had also misunderstood the situation.
Benjamin smiled sinisterly as he said, “Since Winnie Anderson loves having fun, why don’t you try to have fun as well, Mr. L? I specifically asked these two ladies to accompany you.”
Then, he turned to the two women and said, “Go and accompany Mr. L.”
Winnie watched as two beautiful women approached L, who looked noble and indifferent, and flattered him.
“Mr. L, you’re really handsome!”
One of the women placed her hand on his chest and said seductively, “Mr. L, your mask makes you look even more mysterious, and your figure is amazing…”
L glanced at Winnie briefly before he said to the woman, “Really?”
“Of course! Mr. L, let me serve you drinks,” the woman said. At this time, she was almost sitting on his lap.
Winnie’s expression changed slightly. She felt sad, lonely, and exhausted. Although he had saved her, he ignored her and deliberately embarrassed her. Was he trying to punish her?
When she recalled that their marriage was only in name, she thought that it should not matter to him what he wanted to do. Nonetheless, she still felt a sense of unjust. She thought about leaving but quickly dismissed the idea. In the end, she thought she had to explain the matter no matter what. He had misunderstood her, and she could not let the misunderstanding deepen.
At this moment, one of the women called out seductively, “Mr. L, have a drink.”
Winnie’s face was pale, but she mustered up her courage before she walked into the room and closed the door behind her.
The beautiful woman held a glass in her hand and moved it toward L’s lips. However, at this time, Winnie snatched the glass away.
Benjamin looked at Winnie, surprised by her action.
Winnie looked at the aloof man and said softly, “Mr. L, it’s getting late. Let’s go home together.”
Upon hearing this, Benjamin nudged Jeremy and said, “No wonder L rushed over as fast as he could after I called him. Look at how charming she is when she speaks. Do you think she’ll be able to persuade Mr. L with her sweet words?”
Jeremy shrugged and said, “Just watch and you’ll know.”
L did not move at all, let alone look at Winnie. He only said, “Can simply anyone just enter this room without permission?”
Winnie stiffened.
‘Simply anyone?’
Winnie did not know what to do. She was trying to clear up the misunderstanding but failed. Moreover, his words effectively shattered her courage and embarrassed her.
Meanwhile, seeing that L treated Winnie coldly, the beautiful woman next to him began to scold Winnie, saying, “Who do you think are? How dare you snatch my glass away?”
The other beautiful woman looked at Winnie for a moment before she scoffed and said with a sneer, “Oh, isn’t this the famous Miss Anderson? Can’t you see we’re accompanying Mr. L? How dare you shamelessly stop us? Do you have any shame, you wretched woman?”
Seeing that Winnie did not respond, the two women grew even bolder and continued to scold Winnie.
“Mr. L, don’t let this woman deceive you. I heard that her personal life is quite chaotic.”
“That’s right! Wasn’t she meeting with a few men earlier? I saw them in the corridor.”
L’s gaze was incomparably cold at this moment.
One of the women grabbed a bottle of red wine before she said maliciously, “Hey, you’re really shameless, so don’t blame me for bullying you. To make it up to us, why don’t you finish up this bottle of wine? If you do as I say, perhaps we’ll leave Mr. L alone.”
The women were clearly messing with Winnie and only wanted to humiliate Winnie.
Winnie did not respond.
All of a sudden, the two women moved toward Winnie aggressively and pinned her down. They laughed as they brought the bottle of wine to her lips.
Some of the red wine dripped down Winnie’s neck. Although she felt helpless, her gaze was cold and stubborn as she stared at L.
‘Is he just going to watch as they insult and humiliate me? What’s the point of saving me earlier then?’
Overwhelmed with grievances and anger, Winnie wanted to leave. She did not want to subject herself to further humiliation. She narrowed her eyes and raised her hands to knock the bottle away.
At this time, L also caught sight of the expression of despair on Winnie’s face. Without any warning, he kicked the corner of the table in front of him with his long leg.
The table accidentally hit the woman holding the wine bottle. She let out a cry and fell to the side, spilling wine on herself. In just a moment, she was drenched in wine.
Winnie was startled by the sudden commotion and quickly moved back. She almost tripped when she felt a force at the back of her calves that prevented her from falling. She looked back and saw L casually withdrawing his leg. However, he did not look at her.
Winnie bit her lip. Her anger was replaced by confusion, and she felt complicated. She looked at L, wondering inwardly, ‘What does he mean by this?’
At this time, the drenched woman shivered and said, “Mr. L, you frightened me.”
“Oh, is that so?” L said expressionlessly. Then, he said to Benjamin, “Benjamin, since she’s so timid, bring her out.”
Benjamin was confused but did as he was told. He could not figure out if L was angry at Winnie or protecting Winnie. In any case, he knew for sure that L was not in a good mood, so he quickly pulled the woman out of the room.
Only one woman was left in the room now. Suddenly, L held her chin and asked, “Do you want to continue accompanying me? How much do you charge?”
Winnie stared at L for a moment. After a moment, she made up her mind not to leave. She reached out and pushed the woman aside. Then, she stood in front of L and leaned down toward him before she grabbed his tie and asked softly, “Mr. L, why don’t you come home with me, and I’ll accompany you? What do you think?”
