Chapter 204 May be Winnie is Innocent
The video was short, only six seconds, until the mother spat out a mouthful of black blood, abruptly ending it.
The doctor watched it several times and analyzed, "It's really hard to determine, Mr. DeRoss. Based on the location where the girl was stabbed, it should be near the old man's pancreas. The pancreas is complex, it could be fatal, but also treatable. However, judging from the color of the blood she vomited, it seems to be internal bleeding."
Lawrence R's expression froze.
Jeremy thanked the doctor and personally escorted him to the door.
He returned and shrugged, "I found a very authoritative doctor. At the very least, he didn't dismiss the possibility of saving your mother. Darcy took this video and said Winnie harmed Madam Rodriguez. I wonder if she mistook something?"
Lawrence R's face slightly changed. He remembered that day at the hospital when Winnie repeatedly claimed it was his mother's pancreatitis, and she only used needles to drain the stagnant blood.
His mother did have pancreatitis!
He stared at the emergency treatment record. Could it be that Winnie truly wanted to save his mother?
Mr. Lancelot said she was kind-hearted. That day, he witnessed her personally taking Mr. Lancelot's pulse, and she said Dry Needling was saving lives not for money, with a gentle and sincere expression.
Even Benjamin could tell that Winnie had a good relationship with his mother.
If she really was as Jeremy described, and had no intention of harming him, later when Elliott kidnapped his mother, could it be that she wanted to stop him? As she said, did she secretly save his mother and not help Elliott do cruel things?
However, unfortunately, something went wrong later, unintentionally resulting in his mother's kidney failure and persistent vegetative state.
His heart pounded. Could she be innocent?
Considering what he had done to her during this period, the verbal and physical violence, Lawrence R furrowed his brows deeply.
If she were innocent, then hurting her like this would truly make him inhuman.
"Do you understand now?" Jeremy handed him a glass of wine and jokingly looked at him.
Lawrence R remained silent, raised his head in frustration, and downed the entire glass.
"Well, I'm not defending Winnie, but I always feel like she's not completely irredeemable. If she harmed your mother, why would she still endure your torture and desperately stay by your side?"
"She's seeking redemption," Lawrence R said coldly.
Jeremy chuckled and asked, "But what if she is truly innocent? If she has done nothing wrong, yet you want to abandon her, and she still wants to stay because of your hatred, what would you say?"
Lawrence R paused his drinking motion, and the cold vodka embellished his pupils with an extremely dark color.
Suddenly, he put down the glass, closed his eyes for about two minutes, and softened a bit.
Was Jeremy implying that she loved him?
He stood up.
"Mr. L, it's almost morning now. You should go."
"Where are you going? Take a rest, your eyes are so red," Benjamin tried to stop him.
Jeremy raised his hand to halt him, smirking. "Fool, of course he went back to look for Winnie."
"Go back to her, Mr. L, calm down and ask her yourself what happened that night, give her a chance to explain again?" Jeremy patted his shoulder and spoke earnestly.
At four-thirty in the morning, Darcy received another call from Jeffrey. "What did you say? Jeremy found a doctor to analyze the video I took?"
She abruptly sat up from the bed, her face turning pale.
That meddlesome Jeremy!
When she framed Winnie with the video at the hospital, she was certain Mr. L's anger would take over, and he wouldn't even carefully examine the video!
She provided the video as evidence to the police in order to incriminate Winnie.
She never expected Jeremy to keep a copy secretly...
Now that a reputable doctor has analyzed it, her defense will crumble, and it may even backfire on her.
Jeremy is too meddlesome. Will he continue investigating the incident of Madam Rodriguez being sent to the hospital?
The truth about the kidney transplant surgery...it must not be discovered.
She bit her lip and quickly got out of bed, feeling uneasy. She needed to give detailed instructions to the doctors at the hospital, making sure they keep their mouths shut.
Otherwise, if Mr. L suspects something, he might investigate.
Darcy hurriedly left with Barbara.
As dawn broke, Lawrence R returned to the villa. The living room was quiet.
Tall and with long legs, he stood in front of a certain room on the first floor, his handsome face deeply furrowed. He opened the door and walked in quietly.
The room was very cold, filled with a heavy chill.
He saw a slender figure huddled on the bed, her belly rounded, but she was curled up with her limbs, her face buried in her knees, in a self-protective stance.
"Winnie?" Lawrence R frowned and walked over slowly.
Upon noticing that she hadn't covered herself with the blanket and lay like this, her face reddened, breathing rapid, and her cherry-like lips dry and peeling.
He touched her forehead, which was alarmingly hot.
"Wake up...you woman, why didn't you cover yourself with the blanket? You're running a fever!"
He woke her up.
Winnie half-awake opened her eyes, and upon seeing him, she instinctively frowned and avoided him. She bit her lips and asked, "What are you here for? Have you released my cousin?"
"...she has a way to provoke him."
Lawrence R gritted his teeth, accusing her, "You don't have the demeanor of a mother, are you deliberately tormenting yourself to show me?"
"I'm deliberately tormenting myself? Go away!" Winnie wanted to laugh.
"Then why didn't you cover yourself with the blanket?"
Winnie looked at him self-mockingly. "My door was locked, and the maid took away the blanket. Someone made sure I couldn't drink or eat all night long, endure hunger and cold. Do you believe it?"
"How could the maid do such a thing?" Lawrence R was incredulous.
"Heh, Darcy instructed her to do it. I know what I said."
"You wouldn't believe it." Winnie tugged at her lips, her lips pale.
"Darcy had no reason to do such a stupid thing right under my nose. It would've been easily discovered," Lawrence R subconsciously explained for Darcy, his tone softening.
Winnie's heart ached. Weren't you just blind and didn't notice? She closed her eyes. "Arrogant bastard, get out."
In the dim light, Lawrence R gazed at her thin figure and the desperate expression in her eyes.
These past few days, he had harbored so much hate that he couldn't see her "anguish."
She had been unhappy and seemed quite aggrieved, as if her eyes were filled with countless words to argue with him.
Was he being presumptuous?
He fiercely bit his cheek. Instead of leaving, he walked towards her, his gaze fixed on her for a while.
"Winnie..." He hesitated; his voice low.
And his eyes locked onto her, assessing her, with great complexity.
"What are you doing?" Winnie didn't understand what his silent gaze meant.
It had been a long time since he looked at her with such calm eyes. Besides hatred, there was now either disgust or a blunt desire.
Was he somewhat gentler today? She felt a bit uncertain...
With sharp eyes, the man sighed lightly before scooping her up horizontally and carrying her out of the room.
For a moment, enveloped by his intoxicating scent, Winnie felt waves of cold and waves of heat until her dazed thoughts returned, realizing that he was carrying her towards the backyard, in the direction of the standalone building.
The dawn emerged, with a hint of pale light hanging at the horizon, making the sky peaceful and beautiful.
Winnie regained her voice. "You... Are you taking me to see your mother?"
The man didn't answer. He carried her into the standalone building.
Winnie felt incredulous. He had vowed that she would never get close to Madam Rodriguez, so why was he behaving out of character today?
"Lawrence R, what are you planning?"
