Chapter 114 Confession of Rock
“No, I am grateful to him too,” Rock said. In that moment earlier, Rock didn't know she was an undercover agent, and his act of saving her was not pretending to be righteous.
Just then, Olivia received a phone call, “I have work to do, so I must leave. Poor Winnie, you are experiencing the drama of having a lover and a husband at the same hospital. I also want to experience your intense love triangle with two handsome men.”
Winnie gave her an incredulous look and playfully hit her, “Shut up, don't you know that such words can bring trouble?”
Olivia covered her mouth, “You're right, L is really possessive.” She waved goodbye, shedding a tear of amusement.
Winnie rolled her eyes and soon Rock came out. His shirt had a cut that was stitched back together with seven or eight stitches. Winnie looked apologetic.
Rock gently lowered his gaze, 'I saved you willingly, you don't have to feel burdened, and I won't ask for any reward.'
Winnie couldn't help but find his tone amusing.
Compared to Rock's elegance and generosity, L constantly reminded her of the fact that he saved her life in a cold and domineering manner.
Winnie internally mocked L's behavior and unknowingly became lost in thought.
Rock looked deeply at the girl' who was lost in thought and had a delicate appearance. She wasn't injured; she was taking care of a man, and he had found out about it.
A hint of hesitation crossed his mind, but his eyes became profound as he called out to her with a solemn tone, 'Winnie.'
Startled by being called by her full name, Winnie looked at him curiously. She felt that their business relationship hadn't grown that close yet.
But she heard his faint voice with a furrowed brow, “I’ve known about you for a long time, probably since you were twenty years of age. You might not have noticed me, but at a cocktail party, you were discussing investment opportunities for the Anderson Group, and I saw you from upstairs. I thought that girl was young but exceptional... I wanted to ask for your business card, but I hesitated because I'm older than you.”
Winnie was extremely surprised. She was twenty years old then; it was when Triton was just established, and she had helped Matthew manage the Anderson Group and attended many banquets.
“After three years, unexpectedly, I return to the country and encounter you again, because you offended my mother. I have been wondering if it's a hint from fate.”
“I also enquired about your experiences in the past six months. Honestly, I don't believe the rumors or the gossip. I think you're a good girl... It's just that, at the banquet that day, I saw you leaving with the masked man. I didn't know what kind of relationship you had with him, but I was worried about you. If he is forcing you to stay with him, I can help you...”
Winnie suddenly froze, realizing that he had misunderstood the relationship between her and Mr. L. He thought she was being kept by the wealthy L.
“Miss Anderson, actually, I quite like you...” His tall figure exuded a gentle aura, standing not too far from her, his gaze gentle as he looked at her.
Winnie blushed, retreated quickly, and then suddenly let go of his arm.
She stepped back calmly, raising her hand to interrupt him. Although embarrassed, she distanced herself and said frankly, "Rock, you misunderstood. I am dating that masked man, Mr. L. Not you."
She didn't know how to mention the fake marriage, but to firmly reject this man, Winnie said, "I am already pregnant with his child, not the kind of relationship you think. I like him..."
"What?" Rock looked at her belly in shock, because she was not showing.
Winnie knew he definitely didn't believe her. She smiled, "I have no reason to lie about this. If I disappoint your kindness, I'm sorry. But I don't want you to misunderstand anything. You and I only have a friendly working relationship. I am grateful for your help and for rescuing me twice and will put even more effort into your mother's jewelry design to repay you."
Rock's pupils dulled, his deep eyes narrowed with a cool detachment, clearly still in shock.
A faint bitter smile emerged on his thin lips; he had never imagined being so many years late.
Meanwhile, she had experienced the abduction by the Anderson family, her life undergoing an immense transformation in an instant.
Could there be any emotions attached to an unexpected pregnancy involving that man?
He remained silent, and Winnie didn't leave until his subordinate, Edwin, arrived.
Winnie left behind some funds for medical expenses and bid farewell politely, "Rock, I'm sorry I have some things to deal with. I might not be able to visit you while you're injured. If there are any expenses that need to be paid, please have your subordinate contact me."
Her refusal was direct, yet her tone remained gentle, seemingly stemming from a fear of that man
Rock looked at her coldly, maintaining his silence.
Winnie felt a pang of guilt as she left. She regretted not handling things more gracefully.
Yet, she feared that L was upstairs, and if he misinterpreted the situation, this man would go crazy with jealousy.
Taking a deep breath, she turned off the recording on her phone in her pocket.
Feeling helpless, she tugged at the corner of her mouth and checked the time, only she was startled to see that it was already 6 p.m.
It was getting dark outside, she had gone for six hours, and not a single call from him.
Was he enduring it all this time? Didn't this man know how to comfort her?
Or was he nursing hurt feelings due to her "offence” against Darcy?
Lost in thought, Winnie passed by the first-floor reception desk and when she suddenly noticed a gaze behind her.
She glanced and caught a glimpse of what seemed to be Darcy's assistant. But he swiftly disappeared.
Winnie stopped in her tracks, her almond eyes flickering. She remembered how she had rushed Rock into the hospital, not bothering to hide anything.
A mischievous smile crossed her lips.
Luckily, she had already taken precautions to avoid suspicion.
Winnie lifted her leg and walked out of the hospital. She went to the nearby market, bought some fresh vegetables and lean meat, and put them in her pocket.
Just then her phone rang- It was L's number.
She stared at it for a moment, her lips finally breaking into a smile. Her heart raced, and after considerable pause, she answered in a calm tone, "Hello, what's up?"
"What's up?" The man's tone was icy, revealing his usual noble arrogance. "Why are you speaking like that? Look at the time..."
"Well since you didn't call me, I didn't call you. Are you not planning to come back?"
Oh, so it turns out this guy was also waiting for her call.
Winnie seemed to catch a hint of concern in his tone and mischievously asked, "Are you worried that I won't come back?"
"Do I need to be worried?" L scoffed coldly. His fingers tapped the glass forcefully. "I saved your life."
"..." Let's see what makes him comparable to Rock.
Winnie rolled her eyes at him through the phone.
"What are you doing outside? Did you run into someone with the surname Li or Xu again?" the man asked ambiguously.
"..." Winnie was taken aback. Did he install X-ray vision on her?
"I'm in a bad mood with no one to comfort me. Isn't it right for me to chat with Olivia? I was just at the market and bought some meat for you."
L felt something was off in her words.
The man quickly took a domineering tone. "Come back immediately."
