Chapter 115 Darcy Sows Discord
After hanging up the phone, Luke's masculine fingers loosened the blanket. His tense muscles seemed to relax as if heaved a sigh of relief in the presence of the CEO of Imperial Jewelry.
The corners of Luke's mouth twitched, clearly conveying the thought, "Good thing my wife still wants to deal with me."
After enduring for a day, he finally told Mrs. L to get lost.
Winnie hurriedly carried the vegetables and rushed back to the ward.
As she pushed the door, the man gazing at it immediately averted his eyes and looked away with a cold expression.
"Heh." A deep and low snort.
Despite this, Winnie felt uneasy. She didn't know if the bodyguard had reported about her being an undercover agent. She gestured towards the vegetables in her hand, she attempted to please him. "You must’ve been fed up with the hospital food, right? I went to the market and bought some ingredients. I thought of making something for you, so it delayed my return."
L narrowed his eyes. Earlier, she was clearly angry at him before she left. Why was she suddenly being so nice?
His gaze became sharp. "Stay put, Mrs. L. What have you been up to behind my back?"
He seemed to possess X-ray vision.
Winnie shoulders drooped. Instead of waiting for the bodyguard's report, she quickly whispered, "The police found me and asked me to go undercover. I thought if the criminal is not caught, both you and I are in danger. So, I thought..."
"Winnie!" Mr. L’s sturdy chest rose and fell. He checked her all over, still hurting but urgently checking her body. Winnie's felt a surge of tenderness. She honestly shook her head and turned around. "I'm unharmed."
"But..."
"But—" L's chilling aura grew strong. Couldn't she finish her sentence in one go?
In that moment, Winnie put down the vegetables and approached him. She stood up straight and looked directly into the cold eyes of the man scrutinizing her, with a hint of timidity in her voice as she spoke frankly, "However, I happened to run into Mr. Harrington parking his car. He thought I was really in danger and saved me. So, he got injured, and then Olivia and I took him to the surgical ward. Just a minor injury."
Since she had witnessed it, she had changed her approach entirely.
Earlier, her attempt to pacify the situation had been clumsy, leading to L’s misunderstanding, which allowed Darcy to succeed and led to a bigger misunderstanding.
The scheming bitch was skilled in her tactics, leaving no errors. She and L must establish trust and be more open. L is more receptive to kindness than harshness.
However, as soon as she finished speaking, silence fell and the man's face turned dark and stormy.
The speed of this shift, astonished Winnie, and the air turned so frigid it could freeze.
"Heh, he saved you, so you were ready to marry him all afternoon?" L mocked her coldly, anger brewing in him.
"Tsk." Winnie, however, was not hurt by his words. Instead, she unexpectedly remained calm and taunted him, "…Don't get the wrong idea. To prove my innocence, I recorded my conversation with him. Listen for yourself."
Helplessly, she took out her phone and threw it to him, pressing the recording button.
Of course, the part where Rock confessed must not be heard by this lion.
After listening, the man's face remained frosty, but it could faintly be seen that he had eased up somewhat.
She confessed to Rock that she was already pregnant, which L could tolerate.
Who would desire a pregnant woman? Especially a high-ranking man?
As Winnie watched his tightly pressed lips and putting her phone away, she poked his hard arm and said, "Alright, that's enough. I was just doing my duty and taking him to the hospital. Treat others as you would like to be treated."
"Heh, you have a lot of business to discuss with him, sweet talk at the dining table."
"…" Winnie felt helpless. If it weren't for the need to first stabilize , she might have rolled her eyes inwardly and responded, "Fine, I’ll compromise. If you can't accept me working with him, I can give up acquiring the Triton gemstone. But I'll have to compensate him for breach of contract."
The man's ink-black eyes paused, fixing intently on her face, his gaze deepening. He truly hadn't anticipated her willingness to go this far to appease him.
It seemed to highlight how petty he was being.
Luke, who was listening nearby, also concluded that Mrs. L had demonstrated enough tolerance towards the CEO of Imperial Jewelry. Indeed, the CEO of Imperial Jewelry was indeed being petty.
L's thin lips stiffened slightly as he regarded her melancholy expression.
He coldly snorted, "You're quite shrewd. I'll handle those gemstones. Whatever penalty he is asking for, I'll double it! And as for Mrs. Harrington's design—"
"No,” Winnie furrowed her brows. She didn't wish to compromise on matters involving her work. "That's a personal commitment I made. It concerns a designer's reputation."
The man's gaze deepened, but he didn't overly pressure her. "Nonetheless, cut down on…"
"I know," Winnie pouted. She had already committed all the details to memory.
As he stared at her with a frigid demeanor, she quickly moved to collect the dishes. "Are you still eating?"
"Don't you only know how to make noodles for me?" The man raised an eyebrow, teasing her. "Can you even cook? Don't poison me, alright?"
A smirk played at the corner of Luke's mouth.
Winnie was even more furious and gave him a glare, "Rest assured, I'll add a few extra buckets of salt!"
"..." He watched as she entered the small kitchen, displaying adept skill.
L turned his head to protect his wife and said, "Go help her, wash the vegetables, cut them, and stir-fry."
"..." Then what does Mrs. L have to do?
Luke clicked his tongue inwardly, feeling a sense of reluctance. Despite being an assistant, he was still a man. "CEO, I don't know how to chop vegetables."
"I could chop you instead."
"..." Without saying a word, Luke immediately walked into the kitchen.
L glanced in that direction. The kitchen was separated by a suite, but there was a direct line of sight. He could vaguely see the graceful silhouette of her skirt brushing past.
In a nonchalant demeanor. he closed his eyes. Even though he was sick, an air of haughty nobility radiated from his entire being.
It had nothing to do with what he was wearing. Even in patient clothes, with a few strands of hair falling on his forehead, he exuded an air of youthful depth and unmatched coldness.
Darcy stood there at the door, staring foolishly at him. This man was incredibly handsome, captivating the fantasies of countless young girls. She had fallen for him at first sight years ago; neither Trento City nor Ray could compare.
Following her mother’s arrangement, she remained by his side all these years. Were it not for Winnie, she would have been Mrs. L long ago!
Gripping her hands tightly, Darcy put on a submissive expression and lightly knocked on the door, "Mr. L, Manager Baker and I have a few urgent documents that require your signature."
L opened his eyes and saw it was related to work. He raised his hand.
Darcy walked in, scanned the room, and didn't spot Winnie.
She stood upright and walked to L's bedside, handing over the documents.
Manager Baker explained the contents of the documents. It was a national five-star hotel project within the Imperial Estate.
L took the pen to sign.
Darcy retrieved the documents but lingered. Anxious, she mentioned, "Mr. L, I heard that Mrs. L acted as an undercover agent for the police today to catch the criminal. It's too dangerous, even though she doesn't like me, I still worry about her, particularly since she's carrying your child."
L’s brows furrowed.
Darcy glanced at Manager Baker.
Manager Baker immediately smiled and said, "Darcy, don't worry. Mrs. L was saved in time by Rock from the Harrington Group. As long as she is safe..."
"Manager Baker, if you haven't witnessed it, don't talk nonsense!" Darcy immediately interjected, "Mrs. L wasn't saved by Rock. Mr. L, it's not true, please don't overthink..."
