Chapter 804 Come Home with Me
The police have already caught the driver responsible for the accident. He is a middle-aged man in his forties, deaf in his left ear, and unkempt with a scruffy beard.
As soon as he saw Winnie and Lawrence, the driver immediately knelt on the ground, trembling with fear and admitting his mistake, "I'm sorry, I didn't do it on purpose. I'm deaf in my left ear, and I was looking at my phone while driving, so I didn't see the traffic light and lost control, crashing into you."
"I'm just an ordinary driver, and my family is poor. I can't afford to pay for your car; I can only go to jail." He looked extremely frightened.
Winnie frowned and looked at the driver angrily.
Lawrence, however, narrowed his cold eyes, glancing at the driver's hands and his muscular build hidden under his clothes, "You didn't crash on purpose, or did you take money from someone to do this? You know the truth. An ordinary driver? You look more like a thug than a driver with that build."
"As for being poor, how did I find out that you just sent your son abroad for school a few days ago? Where did you get the money for that?"
The middle-aged driver paused, looking puzzled, "What are you talking about? I have a habit of working out, which is why I'm muscular. There's no rule that ordinary people can't work out, right?"
"The money for my son's schooling is from my savings over the years. What exactly are you trying to say?"
"Who paid you?" Lawrence stepped closer, his presence intimidating, "I suspect you're not a driver at all. You disguised yourself as a driver to murder me and my children!"
Lawrence said, "Officer, this driver's background is not ordinary. He moved to Trento City just a month ago, and his son, who is only 13, was suddenly sent abroad a few days ago. He also bought property overseas."
The driver's eyes darkened, "I told you, that's my savings from many years. I also have relatives abroad; you can check if you don't believe me."
Lawrence's eyes turned cold, realizing that the money wouldn't be easy to trace.
Officer Frank Kelly glanced at him, "We will investigate, but do you have any evidence to support your suspicion that this driver is not a real driver?"
"Mr. Kelly, after the accident, I did some digging and found that this driver might be a hired thug disguised as a driver," Lawrence sighed, "You know my past actions may have offended many. Now someone wants to harm my children, which makes me very anxious."
Lawrence framed the accident as a serious murder attempt.
Frank frowned, "Mr. Rodriguez, rest assured, if this is not a simple accident, we will investigate it as a criminal case. We won't let someone who intentionally harms children get away with it!"
"Thank you, Mr. Kelly."
Lawrence nodded, but his brows did not relax. Winnie followed him to the door, both understanding that the police investigation might not yield any results.
"Winnie, I can't show the police the information Ray sent me. It would alert the Peterson Family and jeopardize his undercover work. I'm sorry, but the police will have to handle the investigation of the boys' accident."
"They probably won't find anything." Winnie lowered her eyes.
"Not necessarily." Lawrence's sharp eyes turned cold, "Even if they can't find the mastermind, it will still send a strong message. Think about it, the hitman was borrowed from the Peterson Family, and they don't know about it yet. If the police trace it back to the Peterson Family and Ronnie finds out Rock caused trouble behind his back, won't he go after Rock?"
Winnie paused, realizing his sharp thinking.
This was the instinct honed from years in the business world, thinking several steps ahead of others.
Given the current decline of the Rodriguez Family, Lawrence could easily regain his former position with a little help.
His ruthless methods were unmatched.
"Get in the car, I'll take you home." Lawrence gently opened the car door.
"Winnie!" At that moment, Rock's tall and elegant figure emerged from another car.
He walked directly to them, standing toe-to-toe with Lawrence, his gaze full of concern as he looked at Winnie, "I just called Lysander, and he said you were at the police station. I thought you might come here because of the boys' accident, so I came to pick you up. How did it go? Is everything resolved?"
Lawrence's cold eyes shot out a murderous glare, the hatred from his sons' near-death experience surfacing. He was about to lose control and charge forward when Winnie suddenly grabbed his arm.
Winnie walked towards Rock, apologetically saying, "I'm sorry, Rock, for making you worry. I was in such a hurry that I sent you a text asking you to go back first."
"How could I possibly go back? I understand your worry for the boys; I watched Oscar grow up too. It's good that they're okay now! Since everything is settled, let me take you home." Rock, seeing her so agreeable, tenderly held her hand.
Lawrence's face darkened, and he forcefully pushed Rock's arm away, glaring at him, "She can't go with you. The boys are scared, and she needs to come with me to comfort them."
Rock's eyes widened, and he retorted, "Mr. Rodriguez, you need to understand that Winnie is my wife. It's only right for me to take her home. She can't go to your place; her home is with me."
Lawrence didn't let go, gripping Winnie even tighter.
"Lawrence, let go of me. Rock is right; my home is with him. As for the boys, you should comfort them. After all, you are their father. Do I have to be there to comfort them?" Winnie said, pretending to be indifferent.
Lawrence's eyes widened in disbelief. Did she know what she was saying?
His eyes showed shock, disappointment, anger, and a hint of coldness.
But she remained calm, speaking as if it were the most natural thing.
She had just believed him, had some doubts about Rock, so why did she suddenly change?
She was siding with Rock and wanted to go home with him? Damn it.
What was she trying to do?
"Rock, let's go!" Winnie decisively turned away, ignoring Lawrence's murderous glare, and got into Rock's car.
Rock's lips curled into a smug smile as he glanced at the furious Lawrence.
He helped Winnie into the car, even affectionately touching her hair.
The two of them looked like a loving couple returning home after work, driving away.
Lawrence kicked a tree trunk in anger, his chest burning with rage. He couldn't understand what she was thinking. Was she crazy?
In the car, Rock was in a good mood, touching Winnie's wrist, "Winnie, thank you for understanding my feelings. I'm so happy. I thought you would definitely go to him to be with the boys."
Winnie replied, "I wanted to, but I can't always be so worried. Lawrence is their father and should fulfill his duties. Otherwise, if he always comes to me for everything, I'm afraid you might overthink."
Rock felt comforted, thinking Winnie was becoming more sensible.
