Chapter 330 Leaving with the Children
Lawrence coldly retorted, "You think I believe you? I simply searched the north as quickly as possible and captured Mr. Mitchell. Using harsh methods, I managed to swiftly extract a confession from him."
He glanced at her coldly and continued, "He denied any involvement in the kidnapping related to your personal vendetta, and that's when I knew there was something fishy about the kidnappers. I also examined the surveillance footage from the bridal center for an hour, both before and after the incident. I observed a black van leaving, followed by another SUV heading south ten minutes later."
Maybe relying on intuition, he took a risk, trusting that Darcy wouldn't pose any harm to the child. Lawrence then tracked the SUV's surveillance as it headed south. Swiftly employing police dogs to trace his son's scent, he took the kidnapper by surprise and promptly eliminated him on the spot.
Winnie was slightly surprised. Clearly, he had thunderous means, and there was no way the kidnapper stood a chance against him. Nevertheless, he stubbornly refused to suspect Darcy in this matter, seemingly oblivious to Darcy's hypocritical facade. There was no rush; Winnie would gradually reveal this facade to him. She would make him see through that woman, make him regret his trust in her, and then she would leave with her two sons.
Winnie intentionally agitated him with her words and said, "Since you have already realized that the kidnapper has nothing to do with me and Mr. Mitchell, don't you want to investigate further to see if Darcy is involved? By then, it will also be interesting to see if she has any connection with you."
"Do I even need you to say that? One kidnapper fled, and I am currently conducting a citywide search. Whoever harmed my son, I will make them pay a thousand times!"
Winnie was speechless. She thought to herself, 'Come on, jerk, the main culprit is right beside you.'
The man, displaying a touch of cold arrogance, seized her hand. "I'm more concerned than you are. If you believe you can snatch him away, I suggest for you to keep on dreaming for the rest of your life."
Inwardly, Winnie chuckled. 'Heh, I've already taken one away, and you're still clueless.' Silently, she glanced at him and proceeded to walk past, deliberately ignoring his presence. "Don't get in my way. I want to see my son."
Lawrence's eyebrows twitched, where did this woman get her thick skin and audacity. "What do you mean your son? Have you ever raise him even for a day?"
The response to his question was just the sound of Winnie slamming the door closed. The man's expression darkened, and when he heard Sidney sweetly called out "Mommy" from inside the ward, it made him even more infuriated.
Inside the closed hospital room, Sidney sat by the bed, receiving an IV drip. When Winnie walked over, he immediately hugged her. Being clingy didn't look good on him at all, but Winnie indulgently smiled and asked softly, "Are you feeling better, Sidney?"
"I'm okay, just dealing with a few external injuries – not as painful as what Oscar went through. Mom, did you go next door to confront Darcy? I witnessed her being taken away." Sidney found some relief in that, but then his expression turned serious as he asked, "Didn't you teach us to endure and seek revenge when we're older? Why couldn't you restrain yourself?"
"I'm not a child so why should I endure? She bullied my son and it was only fair that I made her taste what it feels like to be beaten. Isn't it better to take action instead of just talking?"
"But you caused trouble with Dad. I heard you two arguing loudly."
"As long as I win the argument, it's fine. Anyway, I have no emotional attachment or concern for him," Winnie said coldly and mercilessly.
Sidney choked again, unable to believe that his mother no longer harbored any love for his father. He attributed it all to his father's actions, blaming him for hurting his mother's heart so profoundly. However, Sidney was not one to accept defeat easily, and he was determined to reignite the flame of love between Lawrence and Winnie. Contemplating this challenge, Sidney decided it would be best to rekindle the affection between his parents.
Sidney quietly contemplated then held Winnie's hand, apologizing, "Oscar and I made a mistake in this matter and didn't confess to you in time. That's why Darcy took the opportunity to kidnap us. Don't blame yourself, mommy. At that time, we didn't dare to say anything, afraid of startling you. We had planned to find the best opportunity for us as brothers to appear in front of you."
"Silly child, now is also the best opportunity, in fact, I am benefiting from this misfortune," Winnie said deeply. Afraid of staying too long and arousing Lawrence's suspicion, Winnie had to bid farewell. "I will probably move Oscar to another hospital tomorrow without anyone knowing. For now, you can only stay by your father's side. If you miss mommy, contact me anytime."
After saying that, she gave Sidney a new smartwatch. She really wanted to spend time with Sidney and make up for the past three years she had missed. But she knew that once she angered Lawrence, the lion, both of her sons might end up being exposed.
Sidney put on the watch with a sinking heart. Winnie walked out of the ward, and saw that Lawrence had never left. He stood tall and straight in the corridor, casually smoking a cigarette, exuding a deep and charming air of nonchalance.
But when he turned his face, he asked jealously, "What were you whispering with Sidney in there? Don't even think about brainwashing him. He loves me as his father."
Winnie's mouth twitched and sarcastically remarked, "Don't worry, my brainwashing skills aren't as good as Darcy's."
Feeling insulted, Lawrence said, "Please keep your irresponsible parenting behavior away from Sidney."
"Your criticism of my parenting seems ironic considering Sidney's frustration over the past three years. It's no surprise he struggles with his temper."
Lawrence took a deep breath. This woman's mouth was sharp with her words, honed like a dagger's edge. His gaze traveled again from her red lips, and in a moment of desperation, he blurted out a wicked remark, "If you insist on seeking an advantage with your mouth, then I'll let you re-experience how you got that wound on your lip that night in Lymington."
Winnie stared at his handsome yet shamelessly attractive face. She felt her face turning slightly red and promptly turned to leave.
Lawrence smirked as he flicked the cigarette butt and his dangerous eyes followed her graceful figure as she walked away in her high heels, swaying her hips. Delicate yet curvaceous, with clear boundaries. In an untimely moment, memories flooded back to the night they shared in Lymington. The flavor of that evening differed from three years prior.
After Darcy had returned to the ward following a stomach wash, she observed the unfolding scene. Expecting Mr. L to support her as he had done in the past when Winnie caused trouble, Darcy was surprised to find a shift in his behavior. Instead of defending her, he permitted Winnie to confront Sidney, and their heated discussion about the child sounded more like a lovers' quarrel to Darcy. What was even more unsettling was Mr. L's use of ambiguous words directed at Winnie.
Darcy's anger intensified as she tightly clenched her fists, sensing an impending crisis. The feeling that Mr. L was slipping out of her control gnawed at her. The failed kidnapping not only spared the twins but also exposed the truth to Winnie. With the situation worsening, Darcy's only ray of hope rested on Elliott's case. If Winnie couldn't overturn her uncle's conviction, Darcy could resort to charging her with defamation, potentially leading to imprisonment.
By then, she would be able to vent her anger without any restraint.
