Chapter 230 Antenatal Depression
The man coolly sat down on the couch while Luke hurried in, gritting his teeth as he looked at him, as he endured the pain on his arm. "Mr. Rodriguez, we need to attend to your wound promptly."
"She went after me for the sake of Rock," Lawrence R said with an icy twist of his lips.
Luke shook his head, thinking to himself, How could Miss Anderson only go after him for Rock? Any woman forced into such a situation would probably go insane.
"Mr. L, I heard that you disrupted Winnie's engagement ceremony. Is she here now? Oh my, you're bleeding so much! What happened?" Darcy suddenly burst into the apartment. Lawrence R looked up, taken aback that she managed to find her way here, and his face stiffened.
Seeing his slight guilty expression, a flame of jealousy almost consumed Darcy's heart. On the night of their engagement, he had left her all alone, intentionally letting her have her menstrual cycle as an excuse, and she had bitten the bullet.
She didn't expect that he had a plan brewing. Today he put it into action, taking Rock forcefully and snatching Winnie back all in one fell swoop. Did he still want to, secretly, keep that despicable woman around? Darcy was filled with hate, she sensed that a crisis was pending.
If she hadn't sent a maid to investigate as a spy, she wouldn't have found her way here. But she could endure it, not revealing any anger on her face, hurriedly running over with concern.
"How did you get bitten like this? Mr. L, please sit down. Let me stop the bleeding for you first."
Lawrence R knit his brows, somewhat surprised as he looked at her. She appeared aggrieved but not making a scene, immediately caring for his well-being, leaving a slight ripple in his heart.
"Why did you come?"
"On the night of our engagement, you left me at the villa. I was afraid my parents would ask about it, so I paid attention to your whereabouts, Mr. L. I'm not here to pick a fight with you." Darcy's eyes reddened with grievances.
"Winnie and Rock must have developed feelings for each other, and yet you schemed against Rock. How can Winnie not hate you to the core? I'm worried that you two will clash, and it seems that you got injured for real."
Even Darcy could see that Winnie had feelings for Rock, and Lawrence R's eyes turned frigid.
Once again, Darcy's selfless understanding made him feel guilty about his emotions towards her.
Why couldn't he fall in love with this woman who cared for him wholeheartedly and instead entangled himself with Winnie, a heartless woman? Lawrence R berated himself. Seeing his remorseful gaze, Darcy knew that her "considerate" act had touched him.
But it's not enough, she thought with a cold sneer. With this despicable woman back by his side because of her interference, there will never be any progress between her and Mr. L.
She must die!
Darcy gritted her teeth and cursed. She had been worried last night, unable to find a way to deal with her, but now, this was an opportunity.
She looked up in anguish, "Mr. L, what are you really thinking? You got engaged and brought her back. It's embarrassing for both me and the Ordelia family. I love you, and I can endure it, but my parents can't accept it... If you really can't let her go, then I'll step back!"
"Darcy, what are you talking about?" Lawrence R knew he was in the wrong. "How could I not let go of such a woman? Is she worthy? I just... think about the child in her belly. It's already at a late stage, and I want her to give birth."
Darcy's eyes flashed with cunning. Indeed, blood ties were connected to his heart, and he couldn't bear to abandon them!
She quickly put on a kind face and said, "If it's not because of her, but because of her child. It won't affect our marriage. I also love children. After she gives birth, I will take care of the child as my own, Mr. L. I won't make things difficult for you."
She showed tolerance and relief, giving a slight smile. At this moment, struggling and noise could be heard from upstairs. Lawrence R frowned and stood up.
Darcy patted him reassuringly, "Your wrist was just bandaged up. Winnie attacked you, stabbing and biting. Her condition doesn't seem right to me. I'll go upstairs to check on her, so that you showing up suddenly won't agitate her."
After speaking, she signaled to the maid and quickly went upstairs. Lawrence R raised his steps, and the maid immediately approached, pointing to the flesh on his wrist. "Mr. Rodriguez, this still needs to be attended to."
He paused and stared firmly at the upstairs.
As Darcy turned to close the door, she saw that he was paying attention to this side. A crafty expression flashed in her eyes. She walked into the bedroom where two bodyguards were restraining Winnie, preventing her from struggling.
Darcy smiled and said, "Let her go, I'll take a look at her."
Winnie suddenly turned her head, her eyes widening. It seemed she didn't expect Darcy to appear here. The bodyguards released her and stepped back to the doorway.
Approaching step by step, Darcy came to the edge of the bed and, in a tone that only two people could hear, smirked at her, "Didn't expect to see me here? Mr. L sent me! Do you think he brought you back because he had lingering feelings for you? How naïve. He agreed to let the child be born for me to take care of. He's so considerate, afraid that I would suffer from being single and pregnant."
The maid had secretly informed Darcy about Mr. L's angry words. Seeing Winnie's shattered expression change slightly, Darcy leaned closer to her ear, her lips curling.
"I pretended to agree to take good care of the child. Once you give birth and leave, guess how I'll deal with him? A baby has no means to fight back. I'll drown it, strangle it, poison it, slowly torture it. Mr. L trusts me so much, he'd only think the child died of an illness."
Winnie's pupils dilated. She could endure anything else but mentioning her unborn baby was like a mother hen protecting her chick. In an instant, the defense in her heart shattered. Her irises turned red as she held her stomach, knowing she shouldn't have fallen for Darcy's trick.
Still in her state of collapse, she grabbed the woman's hair as if she was harming her own child at this moment. Fear and despair gripped her, and she bit Darcy.
"How dare you threaten to harm, even a single hair, of my child! No! I will make sure you don't have a good death. I will never let the child be handed over to you. You wicked woman, never!" she shouted, struggling numbly in the room, creating a loud commotion.
Lawrence R pushed aside the maid and rushed upstairs, "Winnie, what are you doing?"
Upon hearing the man's voice, Darcy narrowed her eyes and quickly grabbed Winnie's hand, smashing it against her own forehead. Winnie was already exhausted and collapsed on the ground, indifferent to Darcy's sinister move.
As the man burst into the room, he saw Darcy lying on the ground, her forehead marked with blurry bloodstains from where Winnie had scratched her.
A clump of hair was torn out on the floor. Darcy desperately held back tears, saying, "Mr. L, something's not right with Winnie. Don't blame her."
"Winnie, you've gone too far. Darcy came with good intentions to give you a diagnosis, and you turned her into this!" Lawrence R was furious as he quickly helped Darcy up.
Winnie half-lay on the ground, looking up at their faces, feeling nothing but disgust. A chill ran through her heart, and she weakly, yet with bite, exclaimed.
"Lawrence R, if you hand the child over to her and let her harm it, I will fight with all I've got. Our baby doesn't need a father like you! If you don't let me go today, I will kill both of you, sacrificing myself and dragging you down. No one will have a good ending!"
She rambled like a desperate lunatic, with disheveled hair. Lawrence R was slightly taken aback.
"Mr. L, you go out first. There's something I want to tell you," Darcy pulled him a bit, hesitant in her words. The two went outside the room, and with a soft sigh, Darcy spoke up.
"You saw what happened just now. She is very sensitive and hurts people everywhere. Mr. L, I understand medicine, and I have reason to believe that Winnie may be traumatized and suffering from prenatal depression.”
She pretended to show that she cared about the mother and baby, “Her condition is dangerous, more so than ordinary prenatal anxiety because her emotions are so uncontrollable, which can harm the baby in her womb.”
“Medical research shows that a depressed mother can cause fetal deformities, and in severe cases, they may suffocate the fetus. Furthermore, I'm afraid that if she stays here and continues to be with you, she may reach a breaking point and even kill her own child." She finished.
The man was shocked.
