Chapter 702 NexaCore Group
Lawrence's eyes went all intense, and for a split second, he lost his grip on the wheel. The car swerved like crazy towards the intersection, right where a Maybach was coming!
He slammed the brakes, but it was too late.
BAM! The cars smashed into each other.
"Sidney!" Lawrence's first thought was to check on his kid.
"Daddy, were you even paying attention?" Sidney, being a little kid, freaked out and started bawling.
Lawrence, feeling super guilty, jumped out of the car and rushed to the back door. Luckily, Sidney had his seatbelt on, being the cautious kid he was. But he had banged his head and was in pain.
"I'm so sorry, are you okay?" Lawrence asked, lifting Sidney out of the car.
The Maybach stopped, and a driver got out, looking worried. "Is the kid hurt?"
Lawrence checked Sidney over and sighed in relief. "He's fine. My bad. I'll pay for the damages."
The driver glanced at the crying Sidney and walked towards the back seat of the Maybach.
The window rolled down, revealing a middle-aged guy with a serious look.
The driver asked, "Sir, what should we do?"
The middle-aged man glanced at Lawrence and said coldly, "Forget it, no need for compensation. Just calm the kid down first."
Lawrence was surprised by the guy's understanding and took another look.
Then, his eyes widened a bit. The man looked dignified and important, and kinda familiar.
Most importantly, he thought the guy looked a bit like Jeremy.
The window rolled up quickly, making Lawrence wonder if he was seeing things.
The driver came back and said, "Our boss said it's fine. Be more careful driving with a kid next time. We're in a hurry, so we're leaving."
"Thanks." Lawrence nodded, watching the Maybach drive away.
The Maybach, as fancy as a Bentley, headed towards the Camellia Mount rich folks' area.
Lawrence frowned, thinking, 'Since I took over the Rodriguez Group, I know all the big shots in Camellia Mount. Never seen this guy before. Is he new? Definitely not from the Trento City business circle.'
This whole thing didn't distract Lawrence from his real worry—Winnie moving in with Rock. He couldn't believe Rock wouldn't try something.
Just thinking about Winnie with Rock made his heart ache.
And he was even more worried Winnie might get pregnant with Rock's kid. Rock was bad news.
'Even if I can't be with Winnie, I don't want her to get hurt,' Lawrence thought.
"Sidney," Lawrence said, putting him back in the car. "Could you call your mommy in a few days and tell her you were in a car accident and got hurt, and you want her to come stay with you?"
Sidney looked at Lawrence, his tears stopping out of sheer frustration. "Lawrence, are you trying to use your old tricks to fool mommy again?"
Lawrence realized he had used this trick before, and his face darkened a bit.
Sidney shook his head, "Mommy hates liars, and you're the king of them. Plus, if I keep fighting her about Rock, she'll end up hating me too."
"But it's not really a lie. We did just have a car accident, and you were scared to tears," Lawrence argued.
Sidney's little face darkened, and he angrily wiped away his tears. "It's your lousy driving, okay? Forget it, mommy's already married. If you use this excuse, she'll see right through you and hate you even more."
Lawrence's eyes showed a hint of pleading. "Sidney, have I ever asked you for help before? Rarely, right? If your mommy married a good man, I wouldn't bother her. Rock is a hypocrite, hiding his true nature. I think you can see that too. You don't want her to suffer, do you? I'm worried she'll get hurt."
Lawrence's words hit Sidney deep inside.
In fact, he didn't like Winnie being with Rock because Rock was bad news. But Winnie couldn't see Rock's true colors yet.
Sidney hesitated, seeing Lawrence looking so pitiful for the first time.
He reluctantly nodded and glared at Lawrence. "You're bad too. You've hurt mommy a lot, but at least you're openly bad, always encouraging me. Why don't you try encouraging Oscar!"
Lawrence was at a loss for words, looking embarrassed.
Oscar didn't even agree to visit Leah and wasn't there to greet him this morning.
He felt guilty and helpless about Oscar.
"Oscar is very opinionated," Lawrence said.
"So you're saying I'm dumb," Sidney pouted angrily.
Lawrence quickly moved to the driver's seat, not daring to offend Sidney now.
He took Sidney to the Rodriguez Group first.
Hearing that Sidney was there, Bob immediately came to the president's office.
Sidney was still a bit unfamiliar with Bob, but seeing Bob looking much older, he thought the recent downfall of the Rodriguez Family had crushed them. Sidney felt a bit of pity and gave Bob a charming smile.
Bob's heart almost melted, and he picked Sidney up, walking around the office.
Finally, after playing enough, Bob had his assistant take Sidney out.
The office was left with just him and Lawrence.
Bob stared at Lawrence and said angrily, "I asked you to come back to the company a few days ago, and you had the nerve to go drinking and got beaten up."
"Bob, I know I was wrong," Lawrence proactively lowered his head and apologized. "I was too depressed those days, and everyone has their breaking point. I've adjusted now. Didn't you say the chairman of NexaCore Group secretly came to Trento City? This company is a financial group aligned with the president, right? You want their chip to help the Rodriguez Group through this crisis. I remember. If there's any definite news about the NexaCore Group chairman, I'll find a way to meet him."
Bob was relieved to see that Lawrence hadn't been so despondent as to forget this matter.
He sighed and shook his head. "NexaCore Group is too low-key, and the chairman's whereabouts are a mystery. I only heard that this person seems to have bought a property in Camellia Mount, but I don't know which estate. I also don't know if he has moved to Trento City. I haven't even seen his face, so it's hard to find him."
'Bought a property in Camellia Mount? An outsider?' For some reason, Lawrence suddenly thought of the man from the car accident earlier, a middle-aged man, heading towards Camellia Mount. 'What blows my mind is, how can someone look so much like Jeremy? Is he, like, Jeremy's long-lost relative or something?'
