Chapter 216 Investigating Darcy's Surger
Olivia closed the door to the hospital room, while Laura sat by the bed and handed water to Winnie.
Turning around, Olivia couldn't help but comment, "I used to think Lawrence R was charming, but now I see that Rock is a mature gentleman. He's not inferior to Lawrence R in any way, as for family background, power, and abilities, well, he's just slightly lacking.
But when it comes to passion and tenderness, I would choose someone who knows how to cherish others. Clearly, Rock fits the bill."
She deliberately looked at the women as she finished speaking.
Laura noticed that Winnie seemed lost in her own world.
She nudged Olivia and sighed softly, "Winnie has just been through something, and you know it. How could she have the mind to consider other men in such a short time?"
"But she's so lovable. Daniel, Lawrence R, Rock—other than Daniel, which one of them isn't exceptional? Our Winnie is incredibly beautiful."
Finally, Olivia managed to coax a hint of a smile from Winnie.
Olivia delightedly patted her on the shoulder, "Winnie, take a look at yourself in the mirror. Lawrence R has tortured you to the point of becoming silent. In my opinion, he's nothing more than a pickup artist. And it's not just him suffering, he actually believes in that bitch, Darcy, and misunderstands you one after another. Let him suffer the consequences...
Now he's going to get engaged to Darcy, supposedly in four days. Five days later, you and Rock will be engaged, going your separate ways. You need to tidy up your emotions and stop fantasizing about him. He's even willing to give up his own child..."
Olivia trailed off before saying anything further.
Winnie's heart skipped a beat, still trembling with fear. Thinking about recent events, she shook her head with a bitter smile, "Maybe there really is no future for him and me. Ever since Mom's accident, I've been explaining everything, but he doesn't listen or believe. I'm tired. Now that I almost lost the baby's life, I'm scared. It's time for me to let him go."
Though she was still in pain, speaking these words seemed to bring some relief.
She wiped away the glistening tears from her face, revealing a little smile.
Laura and Olivia both approached her, gently touching her hair with empathy. "You can't deceive yourself about whether you can let go or not. Winnie, you still have your child. As long as you're willing, you can still have Rock..."
Winnie glanced at Olivia wordlessly and shook her head, smiling. "Let's forget about love. After being hurt like this, once or twice is enough. Right now, all I want to do is protect my child, give birth to them, and not think about anything else. Rest assured; I won't be defeated so easily. There are still many things waiting for me to do. Oh, by the way, Olivia, how did your investigation on Darcy's surgery go?"
"I was just about to tell you about it
"I secretly discovered that the doctors who performed the transplant surgery on both you and Madam Rodriguez that day were not the heads of the Renal Department at Third Hospital, Lawrence R is an investor at the Third Hospital. His mother needed the best medical resources for a major surgery, but Darcy explained that Madam Rodriguez's condition suddenly worsened and other doctors were occupied with surgeries that day."
Olivia narrowed her eyes, "Where do you think those two doctors used to work?"
Winnie lowered her gaze and looked back up, "Could it be the medical institution of the Ordelia family in Trento City?"
"You guessed right. The resumes of these two doctors have disappeared, and it took me multiple attempts to hack into the medical system to find some clues."
Winnie took a deep breath, her almond eyes shining with a hint of coldness, and suddenly said, "Olivia, find out how many kidney transplant surgeries were performed that day in the hospital, especially during the same period as my mother's surgery. Identify all those patients!"
As soon as she said that, Olivia and Laura paused simultaneously.
Olivia widened her eyes, "Are you suspecting Darcy...?"
Before she could finish her sentence, Winnie nodded discreetly, "You have to be careful!"
After resting in the ward for a few hours, Rock returned quickly after the meeting in the afternoon.
Olivia and Laura exchanged knowing glances and left.
Winnie looked at them speechlessly and turned to face the man in embarrassment, "Don't mind their looks. They are just being overly imaginative, leaving us in an awkward situation."
Rock chuckled, "I don't find it awkward at all. I actually enjoy the way you girls exchange glances."
"..."
He seemed to be accustomed to calling them girls.
"Rock... if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?"
"Thirty-two. Is that too old for you?" he replied lightheartedly, gesturing for a nurse to come and escort her out of the ward.
Winnie cleverly evaded his question and asked, "Where are we going now?"
"We agreed yesterday that I would help you find an apartment, and I have selected a few suitable options."
Winnie trusted him implicitly and got into his Cayenne.
He was low-profile, just like his car. His gentle features, expensive wristwatch, and light gray shirt subdued his sharpness.
Unlike Lawrence R, who always wore the most elegant white shirts, exuding a dominant aura of power.
Winnie shook her head inwardly, wondering what she was thinking about. She couldn't control her thoughts about that man and it made her feel frustrated.
Sensing the woman beside him feeling down, Rock turned on the radio and intentionally tuned in to a cheerful program.
He didn't say anything, but this small gesture was enough to make one feel cared for and warm-hearted.
Winnie glanced at him slightly, and he responded with a smile.
The car stopped in front of a quiet, upscale apartment building.
Rock took her upstairs to view the apartments, "
"I've screened the surroundings this week, and this place is the safest and most comfortable. There's a password for entry and exit on the fourth floor. You still have two months left to give birth, so even if there's a sudden power outage, it won't be difficult for you to go up and down the stairs."
The house is satisfactory, but...
Winnie walked to the window and her almond eyes caught sight of a lakeside villa not too far away. She furrowed her brows slightly and said, "Mr. Harrington, this seems to be near your home? And it's not close to Triton either, which is inconvenient for my commute."
"You have a sharp eye."
Rock laughed and admitted, "I don't feel at ease when you live far away, and it's inconvenient for you to live alone. Besides, we are now 'engaged,' Winnie. Sometimes when there are elders in my home, it'll be convenient for you to come over and deal with them... As for your commute, I'll pick you up and drop you off the whole way."
Winnie wanted to say that she was planning to buy a place near Olivia's house.
If he needed her to act, it seemed that she could only live here.
She had no requirements for the accommodation and took out her card. "Then let's buy here."
"Do you still need to pay?" Rock pushed her hand back.
Winnie politely shook her head. "Mr. Harrington, we don't have that kind of real relationship. Although Triton is on the brink of bankruptcy, I still have some money. I never thought of buying a house before, but now... it's time to start over."
Rock's brows furrowed upon hearing her clear statement earlier.
But he felt comfortable with her last sentence and smiled gently. "Starting over, you will find happiness again. Trust me, it's not that difficult."
"Before our engagement ceremony, I will invest in Triton. No matter how much pressure they put on us, I can resist it. For the next two months, you don't need to worry about anything. Just focus on safely giving birth to our child. I will also support you in going back to work in the future. I know you're a strong woman."
Winnie was deeply moved. She never expected him to bear the risks of Triton.
They say that starting a new relationship is the best way to forget an old one, but she... had no energy left.
Winnie could only silently dispel his fantasy. "Thank you for helping me so much, Rock. I can't repay you; I can only cooperate with you to secure the Harrington Group. After the child is born, maybe we can explain everything clearly to the Harrington family. I hope your parents will forgive us then."
Rock narrowed his eyes secretly and smiled, "Leave those things to me."
As he looked at the delicate features of the girl, he thought to himself that he wasn't in a hurry, as long as she was by his side, no matter in what way.
Slowly, he planned it out. After the engagement, if she wanted to break off the engagement, it wouldn't be that easy.
