Chapter 10: The Trick

William tugged at his tie, cursing himself for talking to that unreasonable woman, Margaret.

He couldn't fathom why he had even attempted conversation just because the car was too quiet, and the more he thought about it, the angrier he got. They stayed silent until they got home.

As soon as the car stopped at the door, William quickly got out, while Margaret, seemingly unaffected, lazily got out and slowly walked inside.

Inside, William slumped onto the living room sofa, gripping a glass of water, his irritation palpable. As Margaret passed by, she didn't spare him a glance and ascended the stairs with deliberate slowness.

William slammed the glass down on the table in annoyance.

Margaret heard the sound but was completely unfazed and continued upstairs.

How could William be so petty? Wasn't he afraid of getting himself worked up?

And how could William be the president of the Fisher Group?

With someone like William at the helm, the Fisher family's business was in jeopardy!

The next morning at breakfast, Daisy and Abigail continued to mock Margaret sarcastically. Margaret just smiled and ignored them, taking a cold approach.

Not getting the reaction they wanted, Daisy and Abigail grew angrier.

Margaret was very capable at her job, and the secretary work was easy for her, so she quickly finished her tasks. At three in the afternoon, she just went to the restroom, and when she came back, there was a pile of documents on her desk.

Seeing Ella standing nearby, Margaret guessed that Ella was up to no good again.

"What's this about?" Margaret asked.

Ella said in a commanding tone, "These documents must all be entered into the computer by the end of today. Originally, another colleague was supposed to help you, but he had an emergency and took the day off. So you'll have to do it all by yourself. Remember! It must be completed today!"

Margaret quickly skimmed through the documents. Entering all of them into the computer would be tedious and time-consuming. It was clear that completing the task would require working late into the night.

"If it's so urgent, why didn't you give it to me earlier?" Margaret questioned.

Ella replied self-righteously, "The plan changed, and I just got the order. It's normal for work to have sudden changes. Are you complaining? Margaret, even though you're Mr. Fisher's fiancée, since you're working at the company, I think you should fulfill your duties, right?"

Margaret knew this was Ella's deliberate attempt to set her up, but since she was here, she could only handle it calmly.

"Of course," Margaret replied.

With that, Margaret sat down and started looking through the documents.

Ella flashed a triumphant smile. In fact, she had received the notice from above in the morning, but she waited to give it to Margaret later in the day to mess things up for her.

"Remember, you must check everything carefully. There can't be any mistakes," Ella warned.

Margaret impatiently glanced at Ella. "Anything else? Say it all at once and then get lost!"

"You!" Ella's face flushed with anger. In front of the other employees, she felt utterly humiliated.

Although Margaret was William's fiancée, she was just a lowly secretary, while Ella was the chief secretary. How could Margaret speak to her so rudely?

Margaret was just a country bumpkin! How dare she act so proudly? Ella couldn't stand Margaret's arrogant attitude.

Ella shot Margaret a venomous look before turning on her heel.

In her mind, Ella seethed, 'This isn’t over. I have plenty of ways to make you regret crossing me!!'
