Chapter 170 Was It All for Lyle?
Margaret just stood there, totally frozen, not sure what to do.
The door creaked open, and there was Isolde, popping into Margaret's view. "Ms. Scott?" Isolde looked pretty shocked to see someone home at this hour.
Margaret felt a mix of letdown and relief. "Isolde, it's you?"
How could she forget Isolde swung by every afternoon to clean up?
"Ms. Scott, what's going on?" Isolde asked, eyes wide, spotting the suitcase in Margaret's hand.
Margaret kept it cool, "I'm outta here. Let William know for me, will ya?"
Isolde had caught bits and pieces about the drama between Margaret and William. But she always thought William wasn't the type to be all over the place. She'd seen how sweet William was to Margaret. In all her years working for William, she'd never seen him care for anyone like this. Margaret was the first. And she didn't think Margaret would bounce so soon.
Isolde hesitated, trying to talk her out of it, "Ms. Scott, won't you wait for Mr. Fisher to get back? You guys should talk it out instead of just bailing."
Margaret shook her head, about to say something when Lyle showed up at the door.
"Margaret, you ready?" Lyle walked over and asked.
"Yeah." Margaret nodded slightly.
Lyle grabbed the suitcase from her hand, his eyes softening. "Got everything? Didn't leave anything behind?"
"Nope." Margaret's voice was flat.
Lyle smiled gently, "Alright, let's roll."
Isolde watched, totally stunned.
Under Isolde's shocked gaze, Margaret paused, suddenly remembering something. She pulled out a key from her pocket and handed it to Isolde. "Oh, here's the key. Give it to William for me."
"Ms. Scott, why don't you give it to Mr. Fisher yourself?" Isolde still tried to talk her out of it.
"No need," Margaret replied, turning to follow Lyle downstairs.
"Margaret, hop in the car." Lyle put the suitcase in the trunk and then opened the car door for Margaret like a total gentleman.
"Thanks." Margaret looked back one more time, bit her lip, and got into the passenger seat. Her mood was heavy, no doubt.
"Margaret, don't overthink it. Just go back and rest," Lyle reached over to buckle Margaret's seatbelt and said.
"Lyle, I'm good. Just let me chill for a bit." Margaret leaned back in the seat, closing her eyes, looking worn out.
Lyle didn't say anything else, turned the car around, and drove out of the neighborhood.
William was driving back from the hospital and saw a familiar car leaving the neighborhood as he got close to the gate.
'Isn't that Lyle's car? What's he doing at Water Moon Estate?' William's brow furrowed.
Instinctively, he looked out the window and caught a glimpse of a familiar face.
It was Margaret!
The two cars passed each other, and William slammed on the brakes.
The car behind him kept honking like crazy, but by the time William looked back, Lyle's car was long gone.
William walked into his place with a face like a thundercloud, and there was Isolde, tidying up the living room. Seeing him, Isolde quickly greeted, "Mr. Fisher, you're back?"
"Yeah," William replied, not even trying to hide his mood.
Isolde hesitated, then asked, "Did you see Ms. Scott? She just left."
William's face got even darker, his lips a tight line. "Where'd she go?"
Isolde shook her head and handed him the key Margaret had left. "Ms. Scott didn't say. She took all her stuff and left this key for you."
Margaret had moved all her things! Which meant she wasn't coming back.
William's face was like stone. After a moment, he asked coldly, "Was she alone?"
Feeling the chill in the air, Isolde cautiously replied, "She was with a guy, the one who's been on TV a lot lately, what's his name? Lyle?"
Before Isolde could finish, there was a loud crash. Startled, Isolde looked up to see William had punched the glass door of the cabinet. Glass shattered everywhere.
"Mr. Fisher, are you okay?" Isolde asked quickly.
Pain shot through his hand, but William barely flinched. "I'm fine."
With that, he stormed up the stairs. He entered Margaret's room on the second floor. The room was neat, but all of Margaret's stuff was gone.
William sat heavily on the bed in the center of the room. His hand gently touched the pillow on the bed. That was where Margaret had slept. It seemed to still carry her unique scent.
He thought, 'Has Margaret really left? Has she left with Lyle? Has Margaret broken off our engagement and moved out of Water Moon Estate all for Lyle?'
Over at the Clark Mansion, Lucy was sprawled on her bed, scrolling through her phone. Seeing all the trash talk about Margaret online, Lucy couldn't help but grin.
Feeling pretty good, Lucy invited Grace to go shopping. Sitting in the car, Grace kept saying things Lucy liked to hear, "Lucy, Margaret's reputation is trashed now. She almost killed Bradley, Mr. Fisher must hate her."
Lucy sneered. "She deserves it."
Suddenly remembering something, Lucy frowned. "There's a report online saying that William dumped Margaret because he found Marjorie. Can you check if it's true?"
Grace quickly agreed. "Sure, Lucy. Don't worry, even if it's Marjorie, so what? We can get rid of Margaret, Marjorie will be even easier."
Lucy nodded in satisfaction, then pointed to the car ahead and asked Grace, "Is that Margaret?"
Following Lucy's direction, Grace looked ahead. It was Lyle's car. The tall, handsome guy driving was Lyle. And in the passenger seat was Margaret.
Anger flared up in Grace's heart, and her face turned cold.
"That shameless Margaret, just got dumped by Mr. Fisher and now she's cozying up to Lyle!" Grace said angrily, "Let's follow them and see what's up."
