Chapter 288 Margaret, You Must be Dead

Margaret's expression grew increasingly grave.

Just then, her phone suddenly rang.

Margaret picked up the phone and glanced at it; it was William calling.

Seeing William's name flashing on the screen, Margaret's heart inexplicably skipped a beat.

With her slender fingers, she pressed the answer button and connected the call. "Hello, William."

"Margaret, I've arrived." William's deeply magnetic voice came from the other end of the line.

"Why did you suddenly go on a business trip abroad? Did something happen?" Margaret asked with concern.

That night, William seemed to have left in a hurry.

He didn't even have time to say goodbye, only leaving a note on the fridge.

Later, she asked Peter at the company, and everything at the Fisher Group's branch in Novastates was normal.

She didn't know what had happened that made William rush to Novastates so urgently.

"Nothing, just a personal matter," William said in a calm tone.

"Personal matter?" Margaret was a bit surprised.

William's tone grew more serious. "Someone saw the sailor who went to sea with my dad years ago appear in Novastates. Maybe he knows something."

Years ago, one of the sailors who went to sea with Owen had gone missing, his fate unknown.

Everyone believed he had perished at sea.

But William suddenly received news that someone had seen him in Novastates.

Concerned with the truth about his father's death, William rushed to Novastates without delay.

"I see." Margaret nodded. "Have you found him?"

"Not yet," William said in a deep voice.

Someone had only caught a glimpse of him on the street; it could very well be a case of mistaken identity.

But William didn't want to miss any glimmer of hope.

"Be careful," Margaret advised.

Margaret thought for a moment and decided to tell William about Bradley's sudden illness. "By the way, your grandfather suddenly fell critically ill..."

Before she could finish, William anxiously asked, "What happened to my grandfather? Is he okay?"

Margaret quickly replied, "He's fine now. We managed to save him. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on his condition. Once it's stable, one last injection will do the trick."

William finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank you, Margaret."

"You're welcome." Margaret smiled.

She still hadn't told William about Pryce and her suspicions.

After all, there was no concrete evidence yet.

She didn't want William to worry.

And it wasn't something that could be easily explained over the phone.

"By the way, how's your cold? Feeling better?" William asked with concern.

Margaret felt a warmth in her heart. "Much better."

"Stay home and wait for me to come back." William's voice softened.

Margaret blushed. "Okay."

At the Davis Mansion, Mia lay on the bed, her mind filled with Grace's words and the photos of Margaret and Lyle together.

Thinking that her current situation was all thanks to Margaret! She decided to turn the tables!

Since Matthew had brought her back home, he had locked her up and warned her not to go out again.

Mia knew Matthew was afraid she would cause trouble for Margaret.

She couldn't understand why the usually decisive Matthew had suddenly become so timid when he confronted Margaret.

He even locked Mia up because of it!

During her confinement, Mia's hatred for Margaret grew day by day.

Especially after Lucy and Grace came over that night and showed her the news of Margaret seducing Lyle.

Mia was so angry that her delicate face twisted.

"Margaret, how dare you seduce Lyle? I will never let you get away with this!" Mia's eyes flashed with venom; if she couldn't have Lyle, no one else could!

Determined, Mia pretended to go out for some air, tricked the servants, and escaped from the Davis Family through the backyard.

Feeling relieved after her easy escape, Mia's mood improved.

She took out the phone she had secretly taken and found a familiar name in the contacts: Leander Prescott.

He was a former suitor of hers. When she was abroad, he attended every one of her concerts.

Rumor had it he was involved in the underworld.

Back then, Mia had been too proud to consider him and had directly rejected his advances.

Since then, Leander had climbed the ranks and now wielded significant power.

No one in the underworld dared to cross him.

He had never failed in any task he took on.

Staring at the phone screen, Mia's eyes filled with a sinister gleam. 'Margaret, this time, you must be dead!'

Taking a deep breath, Mia made up her mind and dialed Leander's number.

"Hello, it's Mia," Mia introduced herself directly.

"Mia? You still remember me," the man's voice was cold and menacing.

"Leander, I need you to do something for me." Mia gripped the phone, her eyes flashing with madness.

"A task?" Leander's voice took on a playful tone. "That's easy. Anything for you, I'll get it done."

"Thank you." Mia smiled, a hint of triumph in her heart.

With Leander's help, she wasn't afraid of not being able to get rid of that bitch Margaret!

"But first, I want to see you. Let's talk in person." Leander's tone shifted, carrying a hint of malice.

Mia gritted her teeth. "Fine!"

Following Leander's directions, she went to a nightclub.

The golden-painted iron door, neon lights flashing with a hint of desire, and a sign above the door read "Red and Black Club."

Men in suits and gaudy women came and went.

Mia frowned; she didn't want to step into such a place.

It didn't suit her status.

But thinking of the online photos of Margaret and Lyle soaking wet, she was consumed with jealousy.

She lowered her eyes and finally stepped inside.

As soon as she entered, a man in a black suit, looking like a bodyguard, approached her. "Are you Ms. Davis?"

"I am." Mia nodded, answering coolly, displeased by the man's blatant scrutiny.

"Our boss told us to bring you to him as soon as you arrived. Follow me." the bodyguard led her to a private room on the top floor.

Pushing the door open, she saw a man with a scarred face sitting on the couch, exuding a chilling aura.

It was Leander!
