Chapter 82 Meeting with Lyle

When William spoke, the whole police station went dead quiet.

In Ravenford, pretty much everyone knew him: head honcho of the elite Fisher family, big boss of the Fisher Group, and almost a legend.

Peter glanced at the interrogation room and answered carefully, "She and Abigail are both giving their statements."

William was always cool as a cucumber, but this was the first time Peter saw his boss looking so freaked out. So, Margaret really had a special spot in the boss's heart.

Hearing this, William said coldly, "Let's go check it out."

Standing behind William, Lucy couldn't help but feel confused. Margaret and Abigail were giving statements? What kind of statements? If Margaret could give a statement, she must be okay. What was Ella doing? She didn't jump on such a golden opportunity?

The chief came over personally and respectfully said to William, "Mr. Fisher, please follow me."

William walked steadily to the door of the interrogation room and saw Margaret sitting inside, looking calm. A female officer was sitting in front of Margaret, taking her statement.

"Margaret." William took a big step inside, his eyes showing a flicker of concern. "You alright?"

Margaret looked up, her gaze sliding past William and landing on Lucy behind him.

So, last night, William was really with Lucy. Margaret's heart twinged a bit.

Pulling her gaze back indifferently, Margaret sneered, "What, you wish something had happened to me?"

William was caught off guard. He could feel Margaret's hostility, clear as day. Was Margaret blaming him for not showing up at Lover's Lake on time? Yeah, if he had gone to Lover's Lake today, none of this would have gone down. He wouldn't have let Margaret go to such a sketchy place alone, and no one would have dared to mess with her.

"That's not what I meant," William said, unusually patient.

Margaret lowered her eyes and ignored him.

William's eyes narrowed as he looked at the female officer taking Margaret's statement and asked coldly, "What's the deal here?"

"We just finished taking her statement," the female officer quickly replied, not daring to stall. Anyone who could make the chief personally tag along had to be a big shot.

William nodded and asked in a deep voice, "Can my fiancée leave now?"

The chief and the female officer were both stunned. Anyone who could make William come to the police station himself was definitely not just anybody. But they didn't expect Margaret to be William's fiancée.

Since William had come to pick her up himself, how could the future Mrs. Fisher be a murderer?

The police chief quickly nodded, "Yes, yes. Mr. Fisher, rest assured, we will thoroughly investigate this matter and give Miss Scott an explanation."

William responded indifferently.

William and Margaret walked out of the interrogation room, just in time to see Abigail coming out of another room after giving her statement. As soon as she saw William, Abigail ran over. "William, you're here!"

Her face darkened as she pointed at Margaret. "Today at Lover's Lake, it was Margaret who pushed Ella into the lake. I saw it with my own eyes. How can you still be with this murderer?"

Margaret frowned. Was Abigail still not done, calling her a murderer every chance she got? Did she really think a few words could flip the script? How naive!

Margaret shot back, "Abigail, I came to the police station, just like you, to give my statement. Don't go throwing around 'murderer' like it's nothing, or I'll sue you for defamation!"

"You!" Abigail snapped. "I saw it with my own eyes, how could it be defamation?"

She turned to the chief. "Margaret's clearly a murderer. Why'd you let her go? Why not lock her up?"

The chief was at a loss for words. What was up with these Fisher family dramas? The sister accusing her future cousin-in-law of murder. How bizarre. The affairs of the elite were truly beyond the grasp of ordinary folks.

"Enough, Abigail. The police will get to the bottom of this. Until then, I don't want to hear any more rumors about Margaret," William said coldly, his brows furrowed.

William didn't buy for a second that Margaret would push Ella into the lake. He believed Margaret's side of the story—that Ella brought it on herself. Ella had already tried to harm Margaret in the garage before, which was proof enough.

"William." Abigail bit her lip, looking at William in disbelief. She had stepped up to accuse Margaret, so why was William still siding with her?

William ignored Abigail and looked at Margaret with a calm expression. "Let's go."

Margaret looked at William, then at Lucy behind him, and remembered the phone call from last night, feeling a bit frustrated.

"No need. I have plans with Lyle tonight." Margaret scanned the room for Lyle. Lyle had been with her at the police station, so where was he now?

Margaret looked around and finally spotted Lyle in a corner of the hall, on the phone. She walked over. "Lyle, I'm done with my statement. Let's bounce."

Lyle had just finished his call and saw Margaret standing in front of him. He stood up and smiled gently. "Alright."

Seeing Lyle's obvious affection for Margaret, William's face darkened with rage. "Margaret, try leaving if you dare."

"Why wouldn't I dare?" Under William's cold gaze, Margaret and Lyle walked out side by side.

William and Lucy had spent the night together, so why should he control her?

"Let's go back!"

"William, let's go back!"

Abigail and Lucy spoke at the same time.

William's cold gaze fell on Peter, and he said, "Back to the office!"

Under his boss' icy stare, Peter couldn't help but shiver and quickly nodded. "Yes, sir."

Watching William's cold and distant back, Lucy's heart was filled with frustration.

Why was William so heartless to her? She loved him so much, but why would he rather be so good to Margaret and not even look at her? What did she lack compared to that country bumpkin Margaret?

And Margaret, she didn't die! Not only did she not die, but she also walked out of the police station unscathed.

Ella, that idiot, couldn't even handle such a small matter!

Lucy clenched her fists tightly at her sides.

She thought, 'Margaret, you bitch, I won't let you get away with this!'
