Chapter 119 Press Conference
Lucy strutted up to William and shot Margaret a jealous look. Then, her eyes, all dreamy and stuff, landed on William's ridiculously handsome face. "William, I saw the news. The Fisher Group's been having a rough time lately. If you need a hand, the Clark family’s got your back."
"Don't need it!" William cut her off, his voice cold as ice.
Lucy's smile faltered, but she pushed on, "But I saw the Fisher Group's stock tanked because of that 'Ice and Fire' jewelry mess. If you seal the deal with us soon, it could help, and the stock might bounce back."
"You think the Fisher Group needs the Clark family to save its stock?" William's lips curled into a cold smirk, his eyes freezing her out.
William's icy vibe was intense. Lucy bit her lip, sounding a bit hurt. "William, that's not what I meant. I just want to help."
"There's no need," William snapped, looking annoyed. "I’ve got other stuff to handle. You should go."
Lucy stomped her foot, frustrated, and shot Margaret another dirty look before storming off.
"Why don't you go after her?" Margaret asked, side-eyeing William with a smirk.
William's voice was soft, "So you want me to go after her?"
"She was just trying to help. Aren't you worried about hurting her feelings?" Margaret's voice had a hint of jealousy she didn't even notice. Just thinking about William and Lucy dancing that day made her uneasy.
"Oh, really." William rested his face on his hand, pretending to think for a few seconds. "Then I should really go after her."
As he spoke, William made a move to get up. Seeing that he was actually going to chase after Lucy, Margaret blurted out, "William, you better not!"
Her jealous words made William chuckle. "You're jealous."
Margaret realized what she had said, feeling a bit embarrassed. What was wrong with her? She hated how William always seemed to have the upper hand. It was so frustrating!
Margaret glared at him. "No, I'm not!"
William's lips curved, and he leaned close to her ear, his voice smooth and magnetic. "Margaret, I danced with Lucy that day to get back at you for being with Lyle."
His breath tickled her neck, making her feel all tingly. Margaret instinctively pushed him away, her heart fluttering a bit. Was William explaining himself to her?
A strange warmth spread through her. She took a deep breath and tried to sound calm, "You can dance with whoever you want. What does it have to do with me?"
William's eyes darkened, his gaze deep and intense, like it could swallow her whole. His voice, deep and smooth like a cello, filled the air. "From now on, I'll only dance with you."
Margaret was momentarily stunned. But then, she curled her lips in a mocking way. "What about Marjorie? If Marjorie comes back one day, will you dance with her?"
William went quiet.
Margaret's heart sank bit by bit. His silence said it all.
Margaret laughed at herself. She knew the answer all along, didn't she? To William, she was just a stand-in for Marjorie.
Shoving those feelings aside, Margaret pointed to the documents on the table and spoke coldly, "You should check these papers ASAP. We can't mess up at the press conference this afternoon. If there's nothing else, I'm going back to work."
With that, Margaret turned and left.
At 2 PM, the press conference kicked off right on time. The conference hall was packed with reporters, all jostling for the best spots, cameras ready to catch every moment. Margaret sat in a corner, quietly watching the dazzling man on the podium, commanding everyone's attention.
Under the crowd's expectant gazes, William stood up and cleared his throat. "Welcome, everyone, to the Fisher Group's press conference."
After a pause, he continued. "This press conference is about the recent 'Ice and Fire' jewelry incident. Several people got poisoned after wearing the jewelry. We're taking this very seriously. Our investigation showed that the problematic jewelry came from the Fleurancia branch factory, while the pieces from the main factory are fine. Here's our inspection report."
William glanced at Peter, who immediately displayed the inspection report for everyone. "This is the inspection report from an authoritative institution. The results prove that the jewelry from the main factory is safe. You can buy and wear it with confidence."
A reporter couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Fisher, since it's confirmed that the jewelry from your Fleurancia branch has issues, how will you handle it?"
William replied in a deep voice, "We've recalled and destroyed all problematic products. I will personally investigate in Fleurancia and hold those responsible accountable. We've reached compensation agreements with affected customers and extend our sincerest apologies."
William's speech was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. Reporters kept firing questions, "Do you have any explanation for the issues at the Fleurancia branch?"
"Tomorrow, I will personally go to Fleurancia to investigate and find out the truth as soon as possible. If it is confirmed that the problem originated within the Fisher Group, I will take full responsibility." William's tone was firm.
"Is it possible that there is a mole within the Fisher Group responsible for this incident?" another reporter asked.
William replied coldly, "We do not rule out this possibility. Once the investigation results are out, I will provide a fair and just answer to everyone."
The press conference was a hit. After William's speech, the Fisher Group's stock price stopped falling and started to climb.
Margaret let out a small sigh of relief.
But today's press conference was just a quick fix. The real test was tomorrow's trip to Fleurancia.
