Chapter 296 You Really Are Heartless
"Alright." Lyle gave her a deep look, his eyes full of disappointment, then turned and left.
Just now, William had called Margaret his fiancée, and Margaret hadn't refuted it.
Lyle felt very uncomfortable.
However, this time, he was indeed at fault.
After all, Margaret was seriously injured, and he bore a lot of responsibility.
Lyle was filled with self-blame; it was his failure to handle his relationship with Mia that had now implicated Margaret.
As soon as Lyle left, Margaret immediately glared at William, her eyes showing displeasure. "I don't recall when we resumed our engagement, and you started calling me your fiancée?"
William's cold eyes narrowed slightly, a faint light flickering in his pupils, and his thin lips lifted slightly. "You really are heartless."
Margaret was shocked.
"Seems like you've forgotten." William's face showed disappointment as he put his hands in his pockets and bent down, approaching Margaret.
Seeing his handsome face getting closer, Margaret leaned back. "What did I forget?"
William got closer, his eyes deep, and said, "I rescued you, brought you to the hospital, and during your coma, you had a high fever and wouldn't let go of me, saying you must marry me in this life."
Margaret's clear eyes narrowed, clearly not believing she would say such things while unconscious.
She pursed her lips and denied it outright. "That's impossible."
"That's why I say you're heartless." William's eyes burned as he looked at her, as if trying to absorb her soul. "But this isn't the first time you've been like this. I'm used to it. Time will prove that the person you care about most is definitely me."
Margaret tugged at the corner of her lips and thought that William was really arrogant.
Although she did care about him, seeing him so confident, she suddenly didn't want to admit it.
Leaning her head back to maintain a safe distance, Margaret said, "That's not necessarily true. Being overly confident often doesn't end well."
Margaret grabbed a donut from the side and popped it into her mouth, feeling much better instantly.
At that moment, Margaret's phone suddenly rang.
Margaret picked up the phone and looked down.
Juniper: [About the fashion design competition I mentioned last time, have you thought about it?]
Margaret frowned slightly. So much had happened in the past few days that she hadn't had time to think about the design competition.
After thinking for a moment, Margaret replied: [I've been a bit busy lately and haven't decided yet.]
Soon, Juniper replied: [How about I come to Ravenford in a few days? We can discuss it together.]
Margaret replied with an Okay, then looked up at William in front of her. "When did the doctor say I could be discharged?"
"Not sure. Your injuries haven't healed yet. No rush. I'll get to the bottom of Mia's matter for you," William said gently, comforting her.
At the mention of Mia, William's eyes instantly turned sinister.
Mia had almost made him lose Margaret forever.
If he hadn't been thinking about Margaret and come back early to surprise her, he wouldn't have been able to save her in time.
Thinking about the situation at that time, William still felt a lingering fear.
Mia, that lunatic, he wouldn't let her go!
"I hope I can be discharged soon." Margaret didn't like the hospital environment. Besides, she had a lot to do and didn't want to stay here any longer.
"Can I be discharged tomorrow?" she asked while eating the donut.
"Not so soon." Seeing her devouring the donut, William's eyes softened a bit. "Besides donuts, what else do you want to eat? I can have Isolde make it for you."
As William spoke, he walked to the couch on the side of the ward and sat down. Only then did Margaret notice the table full of documents and the running laptop.
In the two days she was unconscious, he had brought his work here to stay by her side.
Margaret felt a wave of emotion. "I'm fine now. You can actually go back. You don't need to stay here. I can take care of myself."
William's hand paused as he flipped through the documents. When he looked up, his brows furrowed tightly, and he said in a clear voice, "Do you really not want to see me that much?"
Margaret explained calmly, "No, I just don't want to disturb your work."
In the end, she didn't mention letting William leave again, lying down to rest quietly, falling asleep to the sound of him flipping through papers.
When she woke up, it was to the smell of food, and Margaret woke up hungry.
As soon as Margaret opened her eyes, she saw a small table on the bed in front of her, filled with appetizing dishes, which were her favorites.
William's magnetic voice sounded by her ear. "Awake? Let me feed you."
Margaret remained silent.
William ignored her speechless look, holding a bowl of soup in his distinct hand, scooping a spoonful.
He lowered his head, gently blew on it to cool it, and brought it to her lips. "Here, try it."
His magnetic voice seemed to have a magical power, and Margaret obediently opened her mouth.
Seeing her being so obedient, William smiled with satisfaction.
After Margaret drank a few sips of soup, William put down the bowl and picked up a plate of meat sauce pasta.
Seeing the tenderness in his eyes, Margaret snapped back to reality. "I'll do it myself!"
"You're injured. I'll feed you," William said, scooping a spoonful of pasta and bringing it to Margaret's lips.
"I can do it myself. I'm just injured, not disabled." Margaret snatched the plate from his hand and ate silently.
William's handsome face darkened.
After wolfing down the last bite of food, Margaret let out a long breath, put down the utensils, and looked at William. "Alright, I'm full. You can clear these away. I want to sleep."
Margaret lazily stretched, feeling sleepy.
Her body was still in recovery, so she needed plenty of rest.
"Wait." Just as Margaret was about to lie down, William suddenly raised his hand, wrapped it around her waist, and quickly closed the distance between them.
"What are you doing?" Margaret was startled, leaning back and looking at William warily, trying to keep her distance.
William smiled, raising his hand and moving closer to her.
This action made Margaret think he was going to kiss her. She quickly pushed him away and said coldly, "William, don't do that."
