Chapter 420 The Lone Bride

The ceremony was about to start, but where was William?

Angel furrowed her brow slightly, feeling a twinge of unease. She quickly forced herself to push the feeling down.

No, he came to save me today. He wouldn't lie to me.

"Ms. Walsh, Ms. Walsh?"

A soft voice urged her from the side, snapping Angel back to reality. With no other choice, she turned and followed the woman towards the stage.

As she walked, she glanced back and spotted a familiar figure in the crowd.

Jack.

Angel's heart skipped a beat, and her hand clenched involuntarily.

Today was her engagement ceremony with William. Although she had approached William under Jack's orders, she had worked hard to reach this point. Why was Jack here now? Was he going to ruin everything?

She stared at Jack for a few seconds, but he seemed oblivious to her presence, chatting politely with others, a stark contrast to the commanding figure she knew.

When he finally noticed her, he smiled briefly. Angel quickly looked away, pretending nothing had happened, and continued walking.

"Don't worry, don't worry. Jack is just here for the ceremony. Nothing else."

Angel reassured herself, adjusting her mindset to stay calm.

Once she was engaged to William, she would be his rightful fiancée. Jack wouldn't be able to control her anymore. If she could secure William's support, she could have him deal with Jack, freeing herself from being a puppet.

She was so close to freedom.

"Good evening, everyone. I'm tonight's host. First, welcome to Mr. Fisher and Ms. Walsh's engagement ceremony. We all know they've overcome many challenges to be together..."

After the host's formal introduction, the guests applauded politely, their faces smiling, though it was unclear if their congratulations were genuine or if they were just waiting for a spectacle.

Margaret sat on the couch, occasionally sipping water and glancing at the clock on the wall.

6:40 PM. Twenty minutes left.

Just enough time to drive to the Golden Orchid Hotel.

Time to go.

At the Fisher Group.

"Mr. Fisher, are you really not going over now?"

William sat at his desk, typing away, seemingly focused. A voice interrupted his concentration.

He glanced at his watch and tapped his fingers on the desk. "It's too early. I'll head over once Margaret arrives."

"Understood."

After his assistant left, William closed the webpage on his screen and looked out at the dim streetlights.

The show was about to begin.

6:55 PM.

"Now, let's welcome one of today's stars, Ms. Walsh!"

The host finally finished the introductions and stepped aside, gesturing for Angel to take the stage. Angel smiled sweetly and walked up, waving to the guests.

"Hello, everyone. I'm Angel. I'm so glad you could join William and me for our engagement ceremony. I know many of you are William's business partners and may not know me well, but I'm sure William is thrilled you're here."

"This ceremony was put together pretty quickly, so please forgive any hiccups. William's still tied up at the office but will be here soon. Thanks for your patience."

Despite her confident words, Angel felt a knot of uncertainty in her stomach. The Fisher Group had been dealing with a lot lately.

But she believed in William. He wouldn't leave her hanging here.

The guests, though somewhat skeptical, didn't seem too concerned since Angel herself wasn't worried.

"Ms. Walsh, today is your engagement ceremony with Mr. Fisher. Aren't you upset that he's not here yet?"

The reporter's question drew curious looks from the crowd. After all, Angel had started as a bar singer, not exactly a match for William's status.

Angel was momentarily stunned but quickly recovered, shaking her head with a gentle smile.

"William has his career, and he works hard for our future. As his fiancée, how could I be unreasonable?"

The reporter, taken aback, nodded and withdrew the microphone.

Jack watched from the crowd, a mocking smile on his lips.

William's absence was already a joke to everyone. He wondered how Angel could keep up the act.

7:00 PM. The engagement ceremony began on time.

Angel stood alone on stage, frequently asking the staff if William had arrived, only to receive negative answers. She had called him multiple times, but he hadn't answered.

She grew increasingly anxious, her hands clasped tightly together.

The guests started whispering among themselves. It was already time for the ceremony to start. No matter how busy William was, he shouldn't be late for his own engagement.

"Ms. Walsh, is the ceremony still happening?"

The host, sensing something was wrong, approached Angel and asked quietly.

Angel, feeling frustrated but trying to stay composed, replied, "Let's wait a bit longer."

But before she could calm down, someone in the crowd spoke up, "When is Mr. Fisher coming?"

"Yeah, if he can't even show up for his engagement, does he really want to get married?"

The murmurs grew louder, and Angel's anxiety spiked. She knew she couldn't show weakness now.

She spoke up, "William just called me. There's an urgent situation at the office, but he'll be here soon. Please be patient."

The commotion gradually subsided, and Angel sighed in relief. But then, the sound of high heels echoed from the entrance.

She looked up instinctively and saw Margaret standing at the door.
