Chapter 222 The Traitor is Margaret
William, though, just pulled his hand back, got up with a blank face, and strolled right out of the conference room. Margaret trailed behind, taking her sweet time.
Angel shot daggers at Margaret and quickly caught up with William. The second they stepped outside, a mob of reporters swarmed them.
"Mr. Fisher, word is the Fisher Group lost the North Bay project by just a buck. Any thoughts on that?"
Peter jumped in, blocking the reporters. "Sorry, Mr. Fisher isn't taking any questions."
The reporters then zeroed in on Margaret, shoving their cameras in her face.
"Ms. Scott, since you were in charge of the North Bay project, what's your take on today's events?"
"The Fisher Group lost North Bay by a dollar. Think there's something shady going on? Care to comment?"
Margaret frowned, about to say something, when Angel suddenly stepped up to the mic, "You're right. The Fisher Group lost North Bay by a dollar because there's a rat in the company who leaked the bid. And that rat is Margaret!"
The reporters went nuts. "Can you give us more details?" They crowded around Angel.
"Marjorie!" William, who was ahead, stopped dead, turned around, and shot a frosty look at Angel. "Stop talking nonsense!"
"I'm not making this up!" Angel bit her lip, looking all hurt, "It was Margaret who..."
Before she could finish, William stepped up, looking dead serious. "Shut up!"
His icy, intense vibe made Angel shiver. Her jealous eyes locked onto Margaret.
Margaret felt Angel's burning hostility and smirked, "Angel, you know exactly who the rat is, don't you?"
Seeing Margaret's words had a deeper meaning, the reporters turned to her, "Ms. Scott, what do you mean by that? Are you saying Angel's the rat?"
Peter quickly blocked the reporters again. "Sorry, no comment."
The crew headed back to the Fisher Group. As they hit the lobby, Margaret was about to head to her desk when Angel yelled, "Margaret, hold up!"
Margaret turned around, all chill, "What's up?"
Angel wasn't backing down. "William, we lost the North Bay project today because someone leaked the bid."
Dropping her fake, weak act in front of William, Angel glared coldly and declared, "And that someone is Margaret!!"
She had this all planned out, getting someone to swipe the bid data from Margaret's computer and secretly send it to Ulysses, all to pin Margaret as the company's rat!
William was hell-bent on winning the North Bay project, but this time he lost to Jack by just a dollar. No matter what, William was definitely gonna come down hard on whoever leaked the bid.
Seeing Angel's determined look, Margaret smirked. "Angel, if you're so sure I leaked the bid, got any proof?"
"Of course I do!" Angel shot back, "For the North Bay project, only you and William knew our bid. William wouldn't leak it, so who else but you, Margaret?"
Margaret chuckled mockingly. "So, you're pinning this on me with that flimsy logic? Angel, you do know slander's a crime, right?"
"Slander?" Angel's eyes went icy. "Margaret, still playing innocent? You made William lose the North Bay project, costing the Fisher Group big time. What did BPL give you to screw us over?"
She moved closer to William. "We need to hold a press conference ASAP to clear this up and fire Margaret, the rat! Only then can we set things straight."
Angel's voice boomed, echoing through the lobby. Rumors were already flying online about the Fisher Group losing the North Bay project. Now, hearing Angel's accusations, everyone stared at Margaret with shock and disdain. But with William there, no one dared to say a word.
William frowned. "Let's take this to my office."
"Fine." Margaret followed William, cool as a cucumber.
Angel was itching to take her down. But Angel underestimated her. Margaret wasn't one to fall for such lame tricks.
As soon as they got into the CEO's office, Angel grabbed William's arm. "William, you can't let this slide! You have to punish Margaret!"
"Angel, you're accusing me just because I knew the bid? That's pretty weak," Margaret said, smirking.
"That's not all!" Angel shot a cold glance at Margaret, then looked at the stone-faced William. "William, the day before yesterday after work, I saw Margaret getting into Jack Phillips's car."
"Really?" Margaret raised an eyebrow, speaking casually, "Angel, if I remember right, Jack didn't get out of the car that day. How'd you know it was his car? You know his bodyguards or his ride?"
"I don't know him, but I saw him get into that car at the bidding conference hall parking lot." Angel's eyes flickered.
"Really?" Margaret turned to William. "Angel was with us the whole time, wasn't she? How come I didn't see Jack's car? Did you?"
Before William could answer, Angel's eyes turned cold. She pulled out her phone and opened a photo. She handed the phone to William. "William, check this out."
Margaret glanced at it. In the photo, she and Jack were there. From the angle, it looked like Jack was handing a check to Margaret.
"Margaret, how much did Jack pay you to betray William and the Fisher Group?" Angel demanded harshly.
Margaret smiled. "Angel, didn't you just say you didn't know Jack? How'd you get this photo? If I remember right, it was just me and him there, wasn't it?"
