Chapter 246 His Heart Was Full of Her
"Ms. Davis, I didn't ask you out to mess with you or anything. I just feel it's unfair to you," Lucy said, taking a sip of her coffee and giving Mia a quick look.
Mia's eyes flickered, and Lucy shot a glance at Grace.
Grace got the hint and chimed in, "Ms. Davis, we really feel sorry for you. We all know Margaret's behind this mess. She cooked up those photos to trash your rep and make Lyle dump you. That way, she could go after Lyle herself.
This isn't her first rodeo. She played the same game with William, acting like she was breaking up with him while still stringing him along.
And Lyle? He's all jittery around Margaret. It's clear as day he likes her. Margaret's just a shameless player, trying to juggle a bunch of guys at once. It's disgusting!"
With every word Grace said, Mia's face got more serious.
She believed that it was all Margaret's fault. Margaret had dropped those scandalous photos at a globally broadcasted award ceremony, humiliating her in front of everyone. It made Lyle hate her and insist on breaking off the engagement.
Her hard-earned reputation was trashed, and now she was like a pariah, everyone pointing fingers. Even the companies that had signed contracts with her wanted out.
"Margaret, I won't let you get away with this!" Hatred flashed in Mia's eyes.
"I heard she's about to start filming 'Imperial Secrets: Palace of Roses' with Lyle, and they're playing a couple," Lucy hinted. "But you know, with so many people on set, accidents can easily happen."
Hearing this, Mia smiled, stood up, and said, "Ms. Clark, thanks for the coffee. I gotta go."
Watching Mia walk away, a triumphant smile flashed in Lucy's eyes. If she guessed right, Mia would soon make a move against Margaret. Then, she could benefit from their disputes.
At the Fisher Group, Margaret checked the time; it was almost noon. The opening ceremony for 'Imperial Secrets: Palace of Roses' was at 2 PM.
She packed up her stuff and headed to the CEO's office to ask William for leave.
Taking the elevator, Margaret arrived at the CEO's offic. Thinking about how William had been so cold when she mentioned this morning that she needed the afternoon off for the ceremony, she couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.
She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"Come in," William's cold voice came from inside.
Margaret pushed the door open.
William was sitting at his desk, typing away, his deep eyes glued to the computer screen, totally absorbed in his work.
His suit jacket was off, hanging on a nearby coat rack. He was just in a white shirt, with two buttons undone, showing a hint of his strong chest. His chiseled features were like a work of art, so stunning she couldn't look away.
Margaret found herself a bit dazed.
"Enjoying the view?" William suddenly looked up, his voice cold.
" Not..." Margaret snapped back to reality, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Really? Not enough?" William cut her off, his tone teasing.
Seeing him deliberately twist her words, Margaret glared at him. "I wasn't staring at you."
"I saw it," William chuckled, stepped forward, pulled Margaret into the office, and shut the door.
The sudden closeness made Margaret blush. She quickly pushed him away, cleared her throat, and said coldly, "I'm here to ask for leave."
"For the opening ceremony?" William looked down at her, expressionless.
"Yeah." Margaret nodded.
"I'll take you," William suddenly said.
Margaret was surprised. "You're not against it anymore?"
This morning, he had been all cold and disapproving. And now he even offered to take her.
Seeing her puzzled look, William gave a half-smile, leaned down, and whispered in her ear, "Don't you want me to behave better? So you can agree to my proposal sooner, right?"
His magnetic voice, with its deliberately drawn-out tone, was super seductive. Margaret blushed again.
Her shy and cute look made William's throat tighten. The next second, he lowered his head and kissed her enticing red lips.
William's kiss made Margaret's mind go blank.
The familiar and wonderful feeling made William deepen the kiss. His eyes darkened, and his long fingers slipped into Margaret's shirt.
Feeling the heat from William's palm, Margaret's breath hitched. She instinctively pressed down on his hand and pushed him away. "Don't do this!"
"Margaret, what will it take for you to agree to come back to me?" William's eyes burned as he stared at her.
He was desperate for her to return to him; William had never felt this way before.
From childhood, he had always gotten what he wanted. As for women, there were plenty who wanted to have sex with him, but William never looked at them.
Before, he held Marjorie close to his heart, always wanting to find her. But since Margaret came to the Fisher Family, his heart was so full of her that there was no room for anyone else, not even Marjorie.
He wanted to be with her, have kids, and spend the rest of their lives together. He was confident he could protect her for a lifetime, making her the happiest woman in the world. But Margaret kept rejecting him.
William's deep eyes were fixed on Margaret's face. He held her shoulders, his usually cold eyes now burning. "Margaret, please say yes."
