Chapter 350 The Difficult Rescue
"Give this bouquet of fire lilies to Lucy later," Michael said, handing a bouquet to William from the car.
These were Lucy's favorite lilies, and if William gave them to her personally, she would be very happy.
William frowned slightly as he took the bouquet.
When William arrived at the ward, Lucy was lying weakly on the bed, thinking about William.
Hearing the sound, Lucy looked up and saw William's tall figure standing at the door, her heart filled with joy.
"William, you finally came to see me!" Ignoring the pain, Lucy sat up, her eyes full of happiness.
William's gaze fell on Lucy's wrist.
He hadn't expected her to attempt suicide by cutting her wrists, and according to Michael, the wound was deep and she was barely saved.
William handed the lilies to Lucy and said coldly, "Don't do anything stupid again."
Lucy misunderstood, thinking William was concerned about her.
"William, thank you! How did you know lilies are my favorite?" Lucy asked happily, staring at William.
"Get some rest. I have to go," William replied, avoiding her question and turning to leave.
Watching William's cold and distant back, Lucy's heart sank again.
She wouldn't give up on William so easily.
At Maplewood, the jet slowly descended, and after many twists and turns, Margaret and Juniper's group finally arrived at the Azure Mountain Area.
Despite being mentally prepared, Margaret was still shocked by the scene before her.
The village at the foot of the mountain was covered in dust, with many broken wooden buildings along the road, most houses collapsed, rocks fallen from the mountain, cries of pain everywhere, and even many corpses of livestock and people.
Seeing this scene, Juniper almost fainted.
Margaret quickly supported her. "Juniper, don't be afraid."
Juniper took a deep breath and nodded.
"This should be the place," Margaret said, looking at the compass.
The Azure Mountain Area was vast, and Margaret had previously asked Anthony to locate Alden's approximate position.
"Let's look around," Margaret said, pushing aside some branches and calling to the group behind her.
Next to her was Juniper, who was exhausted but still pushing herself to continue.
Behind them were bodyguards and a top-notch rescue team that Margaret had brought from the city.
The earthquake in the Azure Mountain Area was severe, classified as a rare high-level earthquake. Now that they were finally here, the situation was even worse than expected.
"Alden, where are you?" Juniper murmured, "You must be okay!"
"Juniper, let's find him quickly. I'm sure we can," Margaret comforted Juniper.
She knew that saving lives was urgent, especially since the initial quake had passed, but they didn't know when aftershocks might come.
If they delayed even a second, the casualties could be higher.
They had to find Alden and rescue him as soon as possible.
Margaret was about to move forward when she noticed Juniper standing still, dazed.
Margaret pulled her arm and said, "Hurry up, according to the map, there's a village ahead. Alden might be there. Let's go look."
Juniper snapped out of it and quickly followed Margaret.
The village wasn't far from their current location, but the journey was extremely difficult.
"Ms. Scott, Juniper, wait for me!" Samuel was also stunned by the scene and took a while to recover.
When they reached the village entrance, Margaret was startled.
Most of the houses at the entrance had collapsed, some places were still smoking, and it looked like a scene after a meteor strike, with rubble and debris everywhere and no sign of people.
On their way to the village, they had seen many elderly and children injured by the earthquake. The rescue team had been busy all the way, but fortunately, they had enough medicine, bandages, and iodine.
"Alden!" Juniper had no time to worry about anything else, her mind full of thoughts about Alden.
Juniper was extremely anxious.
Seeing the village in such a state, her already worried heart became even more anxious. She ran a few steps forward, looking around and shouting, hoping for any response.
Margaret pressed her lips together, and some of the bodyguards who came with her had already started helping other villagers. The doctors in the rescue team also spread out to treat the injured.
"Please help bandage the wounds of those kids over there. They seem to be seriously injured," Margaret said to the rescue team doctors.
"Yes, Ms. Scott. Saving lives is our duty. We will do our best," The doctor nodded.
Seeing the doctor agree, Margaret breathed a sigh of relief and ran to Juniper's side.
"Margaret, where do you think Alden is? What if he's already..." Juniper's voice trembled, and tears started to flow.
Margaret put her hand on Juniper's shoulder and comforted her, "The earthquake was strong, and we don't know when aftershocks will come. They are already searching for people buried under the rubble. Don't worry!"
"How can I not worry!" Juniper's voice trembled. "What if something happens to Alden? What will I do?"
Seeing Juniper's distress, Margaret sighed lightly.
To be honest, in this situation, no one could guarantee they could save Alden.
In fact, even finding Alden was uncertain.
After all, Anthony's located range was not small.
The bodyguards and rescue team used life detectors to search continuously, and suddenly the device showed movement.
"There's someone down here!" A bodyguard shouted excitedly.
Margaret and Juniper hurried over.
It was a collapsed house, with wooden boards and bricks piled up.
There was a survivor underneath.
"Start digging!" Margaret said firmly.
Juniper was even more nervous, holding Margaret's hand. "Margaret, do you think it could be Alden?"
"Whether it's Alden or not, as long as there's life, we can't give up," Margaret said firmly.
The bodyguards and rescue team began to work, being very careful not to harm the person buried underneath.
Soon, they heard the faint sound of a kid crying.
"It's a kid." Juniper's eyes dimmed.
The person buried underneath was not Alden.
