Chapter 209 Angel is Definitely Not Simple

Even though Margaret and Lyle weren't dating, the media had spun it like they were shacking up, and it kept blowing up in the news.

Now, Mia and Lyle were engaged once upon a time. But given how those shady media folks roll, they would hype up anything for clicks.

"Just some BS rumors, I ain't bothered," Lyle shrugged it off. There was nada between him and Mia, so he couldn't care less.

"The rep you've busted your butt for these past two years, I don't want it getting trashed, got it?" Margaret squinted. "You're the big boss now and a mega movie star, the face of the company. If the media goes nuts and drags you through the mud, it's gonna mess with you and the company."

Lyle smirked a bit. "Margaret, you worried about me or the company?"

"Both," Margaret blinked, then answered.

"Chill, I'll sort it out." Lyle's eyes darkened. He could brush off his own image, but the company's rep was a different story. Plus, this mess involved Margaret; he couldn't let her get labeled as the other woman.

Margaret nodded. "Good."

Lyle suddenly switched gears. "Margaret, my birthday bash is tomorrow night. You still coming?"

"Yeah," Margaret replied coolly.

Lyle gave her a long look. "I'll be waiting."

Half an hour later, Lyle dropped Margaret off at East Garden. "We're here, Margaret. Lemme walk you up."

Margaret hopped out and turned back. "No need."

She suddenly remembered something. "Oh, Lyle, help me find a new place."

"Why? This place not cutting it?" Lyle was surprised.

Margaret smirked. "I'm done with the media trash talk."

Lyle snapped, "You care about that crap?"

"Yeah." Margaret's tone was dead serious.

Lyle's face got all serious. He knew Margaret; she wasn't one to give a damn about gossip. She was like him; if she hadn't done something, she didn't care what people thought.

But now, Margaret didn't wanna crash at his place anymore.

After a beat, Lyle asked, "Is this about William?"

Margaret's heart skipped a beat at that name. Yeah, she didn't want William getting the wrong idea. But thinking about Angel all over William made her stomach churn.

"It's got nothing to do with anyone," Margaret said and walked off.

As soon as she got home, Margaret got a text from Anthony: [Ada, I dug up some dirt on Angel.]

Margaret shot back: [Spill it.]

Anthony: [Ada, you told me to check around October 18th for anything weird with Angel. I found something. Guess what?]

Margaret's heart raced. Her gut told her Anthony found something big.

Margaret: [Send it now!]

In no time, Anthony sent Margaret a photo. In the pic, Angel was hanging with two dudes. These guys looked kinda familiar.

Margaret thought for a sec and then it hit her. On the day of their engagement ceremony, Angel was being chased by these two for some debt and ended up crashing into William's car. The paparazzi had caught it all before.

From this pic, though, Angel seemed pretty chummy with those two, not like she was running from them. But one pic didn’t tell the whole story.

While Margaret was mulling it over, Anthony texted again: [Ada, I found out that in early October, Angel gave these two guys $200,000. No clue what for, but it smells fishy.]

Wasn't Angel borrowing high-interest loans to treat her grandma? How’d she suddenly have $200K to throw at these guys? And did she pay them to put on a show for William? Thinking this, Margaret texted Anthony: [Anthony, dig deeper into Angel's ties with these two, what the money was for, and any other dirt you can find.]

Anthony shot back: [Got it, Ada. Stay tuned!]

A few seconds later, another message: [Angel's definitely shady. Watch your back!]

Margaret replied: [I know.]

She put down her phone and flopped on the couch, her mind replaying Angel's cocky attitude towards her and then acting all innocent in front of William. Margaret squinted. With how obsessed Angel was with William, she'd definitely try to boot her from the Fisher Group. So she'd wait and see.

She wanted to see Angel's next move.

The weekend flew by, and soon it was Monday. Margaret got to the Fisher Group bright and early. She was so early, the office was still a ghost town.

Margaret fired up her computer and was about to dive into the North Bay project when she heard the click-clack of high heels stopping in front of her. She looked up and saw Angel standing there, looking all hostile.

Margaret gave her a cold glance and went back to work.

"Margaret, I rode to work with William today," Angel said, sounding all smug.

"Really?" Margaret asked, not even looking up, "What’s that got to do with me?"

Angel couldn’t stand Margaret’s chill attitude. She smirked provocatively. "Yesterday, William helped you find Grace's photo and bailed you out. Don’t think it means you still matter to him. He did it all for Bradley. You’re about to give Bradley acupuncture, and William doesn’t want you in a bad mood and screwing up. Also, when William saved you before, it was just to find Pryce. Only you know where Pryce is. Don’t get any ideas that William has feelings for you. He’s all about me!"
