Chapter 68 The Enemy of Her Enemy is Her Friend

Today's mess was clearly no random mishap. The Fisher Group's gear got checked out every year, and pros handle the studio lights. So, how the heck did they just drop like that? And seriously, what are the odds they'd nail her?

Who's pulling the strings here?

Margaret first thought maybe it was Lucy trying to mess with her, but then she remembered she herself only hit the set last minute to show Annie how it was done. No way Lucy could've seen that coming.

Annie and Lyle were supposed to be in that spot.

So, was someone gunning for Annie? But Annie just rolled in from Fleurancia, fresh on the scene. Who'd have beef with her already?

As for Lyle, even if someone had it out for him, they wouldn't pull this stunt at the Fisher Group. That's William's turf, and crossing him? Not smart.

Margaret was stumped.

Both she and William knew this wasn't some fluke. William's eyes locked on the cut on Margaret's leg, and he said, all serious, "I'll get someone on this."

Margaret just nodded.

William took her to the hospital, and the commercial shoot was canceled.

Annie was fuming after Margaret chewed her out in front of everyone. She needed some TLC from Bruce. But then Bruce went, "I wonder how Margaret's doing. Let's hit the hospital and check on her."

Annie's like, 'What? Hospital? Margaret? Why's Bruce all about her?'

Her face soured. She latched onto Bruce's arm, whining, "Babe, I've been at this shoot all day. I'm beat."

"Oh, then you should head back and crash early," Bruce said, all considerate.

"What about you? Aren't you coming back to the hotel with me?" Annie pressed.

Bruce's eyes darkened. "I'm going to see Margaret. She got hurt 'cause of today's shoot."

And with that, Bruce ditched Annie and walked off.

Watching him leave, Annie's fists clenched in frustration. Since she got here from Fleurancia, she could tell Bruce wasn't as into her as before.

Why?

Today, Margaret embarrassed her in front of everyone, even threatened to replace her. Margaret made her look like a fool. And Bruce? Only worried about Margaret's injury.

The more Annie thought about it, the angrier she got. She stormed out of the studio, face like ice.

"Annie." Just as she stepped out, a woman's voice called. She stopped and saw a tall, elegant girl at the entrance.

It was Lucy.

"Who are you?" Annie asked, confused, eyeing Lucy.

With a smile, Lucy said, "Hey, Annie. I'm Lucy, the eldest daughter of the Clark family."

Annie got it then. She'd heard whispers about the tangled web between Lucy, William, and Margaret lately. Earlier, Lucy had been causing a ruckus at the studio entrance, trying to see William, but he shut her down cold. Guessed the rumors were spot on.

"What do you want with me?" Annie asked, eyeing her suspiciously.

"I've heard a lot about you, Annie. Seeing you today, you totally live up to the hype." Lucy's face lit up with enthusiasm. "How about we grab a coffee?"

Annie was flattered. The Clark family was a big deal in Ravenford, and everyone wanted to be in their circle. Looked like Lucy was trying to buddy up.

Annie also wanted the scoop on Margaret from Lucy, so she nodded. "Sure."

They hit up a café next to the Fisher Group building and grabbed a table.

Lucy cleared her throat, smiling. "I saw your commercial shoot earlier. You nailed it, Annie. Margaret was way out of line with her comments."

Lucy looked all indignant.

The enemy of her enemy was her friend, right? Annie seemed a bit naive, and Lucy figured a few choice words would make her hate Margaret.

When Lucy brought up the studio incident, Annie's face flushed with embarrassment. She sipped her coffee and said coldly, "What does she know about shooting?"

"Do you know why Margaret's gunning for you?" Lucy asked, acting all hesitant.

"Why?" Annie asked, leaning in.

"William and Bruce were both there. Think about it, Margaret trashed you in front of them to make herself look better," Lucy said, blowing on her coffee like it was no big deal.

"You mean Margaret's targeting me to look good in front of Bruce?" Annie said through gritted teeth.

Lucy nodded, stirring the pot. "Margaret's just a flirt. She might be William's fiancée, but who knows how many guys she's got on the side. You saw her flirting with Lyle right in front of William today. That says it all."

Seeing the disgust on Annie's face, Lucy kept going. "And when she fell in front of us today to attract attention, didn't Bruce look super worried and want to rush over to help her?"

Thinking about Bruce's concern for Margaret, Annie felt a wave of jealousy.

"I just couldn't stand it anymore." Lucy sighed dramatically. "Margaret uses her looks to seduce men under the guise of work. Annie, you gotta watch out, or one day, Margaret might steal your boyfriend."

"I won't let her get away with it!" Annie gripped her coffee cup tightly, a dark look flashing in her eyes.

Because of her leg injury, William didn't let Margaret go to work for the next few days. She could only schedule the next shoot with the photographer.

The morning sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a glow on the bed. Margaret rubbed her eyes; it was just seven in the morning. She freshened up and headed downstairs.

The smell of breakfast wafted from the kitchen. Margaret sniffed the air; it smelled amazing.

"Isolde, thanks," Margaret said, walking toward the kitchen.

But in the kitchen stood a tall, slender figure.

Margaret thought, 'William? Why is he cooking?'
