Chapter 114 Work at the Fisher Group
Fall for him in two months? Yeah, right.
Margaret bit her lip, dead serious. "No way in hell."
"But what if you do fall for me? Would you be with me then?" William pressed, eyes locked on hers, full of determination.
"There's no 'what if'." She tossed those words over her shoulder and stormed out of the CEO's office, not even glancing back.
But her heart? It was racing like crazy.
What was William playing at? Did he actually want her to stick around? And what about his precious Marjorie?
Margaret kept reminding herself that William only said that because she looked like Marjorie. No way she was gonna be anyone's stand-in!
The next few days were pretty chill. Ella got slapped with a year in the slammer for intentional harm. The "Ice and Fire" jewelry line blew up, and Bruce was over the moon with the collab. He headed back to Fleurancia with his assistant. Juniper, after some serious convincing from Samuel, hung out in Ravenford for a bit before heading back to Fleurancia.
The "Ice and Fire" series was a smash hit, raking in the big bucks. The Fisher Group shot past Royal Radiance, becoming the new top dog in the jewelry game. Lately, the Fisher Group's jewelry factories in Ravenford's burbs and the Fleurancia branch were cranking out "Ice and Fire" pieces non-stop. Margaret, the brains behind the "Ice and Fire" project, got mad props from William and was the talk of the town for a while.
Over at the Clark family mansion, Lucy was losing it, seeing Margaret all over the media with William. She grabbed a vase and smashed it to bits. "Margaret, Margaret, it's always Margaret! What's so special about her?"
Grace, freaked out by Lucy's meltdown, tried to calm her down. "Lucy, chill. Margaret's just been lucky, dodging bullets left and right. William's just looking for a new toy. He'll get bored and kick her to the curb. Then you'll be Mrs. Fisher."
"But when?!" Lucy fumed. "What makes that country bumpkin better than me?"
"She's not better than you at all!" Grace's eyes lit up with an idea. "The problem is she's always around William. She works with him, lives with him. How could she not try to seduce him?"
"So what do we do? We need to get rid of her!" Lucy was green with envy, wishing Margaret would vanish for good.
"Lucy, why not get a job at the Fisher Group?" Grace suggested. "That way, you can keep an eye on Margaret and spend more time with William. He'll see you're a million times better than her and dump her for you."
"Not a bad idea." Lucy nodded, actually pleased for once.
But how to snag a job at the Fisher Group? Looked like she'd need her brother's help.
Lucy grabbed a bowl of chicken soup and headed to the study, knocking on the door. "Michael, can I come in?"
"Yeah, come in," Michael replied.
Lucy swung the door open and set the chicken soup on the table. "Burning the midnight oil again, huh? I had the maid whip up some chicken soup for you. Drink it while it's hot."
Michael eyed the soup. "Alright, how much do you need this time?"
"Oh, come on. What are you thinking?" Lucy clung to Michael's arm, batting her eyelashes. "I'm just worried about your health."
Michael's suspicion grew. Every time Lucy acted all sweet, it was never for a good reason. It was either cash or some other favor. What was his troublesome sister up to now?
"Spill it, what's the deal?" Michael rubbed his forehead.
Lucy grinned. "Well, you and Grandpa always say I'm just goofing off. I get it now, and I wanna work."
"You wanna work? Easy, just pick a spot in our company," Michael said, a bit shocked that his spoiled sister actually wanted to work.
"Working in our company is lame. Everyone knows I'm your sister. No challenge at all," Lucy said. "I wanna work at the Fisher Group."
Now Michael got it. Her real target was William.
"No way." Michael knew William would never let Lucy work at the Fisher Group.
Lucy wasn't backing down. "Why not? I like William. And as my brother, you won't even help me with this tiny favor?"
Michael frowned. "You know William has a fiancée, right?"
"That country bumpkin!" Lucy snapped. "I can't stand it. She's not better than me in any way. Why should she be William's fiancée?"
Michael stayed calm. "You mean Margaret? I think she's pretty nice."
Lucy stomped her foot. "Michael, how can you side with an outsider? You know I like William!"
"If I become William's fiancée, wouldn't the Clark and Fisher families' partnership be smoother? Michael, if you don't help me, I'll die right here," Lucy said, grabbing a fruit knife from the table.
Michael quickly grabbed her hand. "Don't be stupid!"
"So, you agree?" Lucy said, pouting.
"Alright, I'll figure something out," Michael said, giving in to his unreasonable sister. After all, she was his only sister.
Before Michael could even think about how to approach William, drama hit the Fisher Group. That day, Margaret was crunching numbers with the sales manager, tallying up the "Ice and Fire" sales, when a security guard burst in.
"Margaret, we got a problem," the guard said, out of breath.
Margaret stopped what she was doing and stood up. "What's going on?"
The guard, still panting, said, "A bunch of people are outside the main gate, claiming they got poisoned from wearing our 'Ice and Fire' jewelry. They wanna see you and demand justice. And there are a ton of reporters."
Everyone in the room exchanged shocked looks. The "Ice and Fire" jewelry had passed all the strict inspections. How could it cause poisoning?
Margaret took a deep breath and said calmly, "I'll handle it."
