Chapter 176 Too Much of a Coincidence

"Enough," William cut Angel off, his voice icy. "Don't bring her up."

"Oh, okay, William. If it bugs you, I won't mention it," Angel mumbled, feeling awkward. She glanced at the broken glass on the floor and offered, "William, let me clean this mess up for you."

"No need. The cleaning crew will handle it later," William replied, sounding indifferent.

"Seriously, let me do it. If you step on it, I'll feel awful," Angel insisted.

Without waiting for a response, she squatted down and started picking up the glass shards.

William leaned back, his brows furrowed. The online rumors were getting to him. He pulled out his phone, his fingers quickly finding Margaret's number in his contacts. Staring at her name on his screen, his handsome face turned even colder.

His finger hovered over it, hesitated, then pulled back.

After a few tries, feeling all sorts of mixed emotions, William finally hit the call button. But her phone was off.

"Shit!" William muttered, his whole vibe turning icy, making the office feel like a freezer. Even Angel, busy cleaning, felt the chill.

"William, you okay?" Angel looked up, concerned.

William snapped out of it and replied coolly, "I'm fine."

"Alright, all done." Angel stood up and tossed the glass shards into the trash. She was about to say something when her phone rang.

"William, sorry, I gotta take this," Angel said, looking apologetic.

William just nodded, not really caring.

Angel answered, "Boss, can I take the night off?"

"No!" The bar owner's voice was harsh.

Angel bit her lip, "But I got hurt today. My knee's bandaged, and I can't perform."

"Then I'll dock double your pay!" The bar owner snapped.

Angel pleaded, "Boss, please. I'm really hurt and need the money. Don't dock my pay, okay?"

"Angel, you think this is a charity? If everyone took time off like you, how would I run this place?" The bar owner barked. "If you can't deal with it, then quit!"

"I get it, boss. I'll be there tonight," Angel said, tears welling up.

After hanging up, she looked at William with tearful eyes. "William, I gotta go. I need to work tonight."

William frowned. "But you're hurt."

"It's fine. I'll wear a long dress so no one sees my knee," Angel said, her voice trembling as she tried to stay composed.

"Don't go, Marjorie. Just quit," William said firmly.

"I can't. This job's important. I still need to pay you back," Angel shook her head, showing her determination.

William sighed, "Marjorie, I've told you before. I don't need you to pay me back."

"But I hate owing you," Angel mumbled, looking down. "William, I'm scared you'll think less of me."

"How could I?" William paused, then said, "Marjorie, how about you come work at the Fisher Group?"

"Really?" Angel's eyes lit up with joy.

William smiled, "Of course."

At the airport, Juniper and Margaret boarded the quickest flight to Glacial Crest. Margaret was about to turn off her phone when Lyle called.

"Lyle?" Margaret raised an eyebrow.

Lyle's smooth voice came through, "Margaret, I just went to East Garden, and you weren't there."

"Yeah, I'm at the airport with Juniper," Margaret replied.

Lyle sounded surprised, "Airport? Where are you headed?"

"I've got some important stuff to handle," Margaret said, then added, "By the way, there are a lot of false rumors about us online. Can you get them taken down?"

"I will," Lyle said, his voice a bit muffled. "Margaret, have you thought about my suggestion? Revealing your true identity might be the best move right now."

Margaret rubbed her temples, "We'll talk about it when I get back."

The plane took off, climbing into the sky. Margaret stared out the window, her thoughts wandering.

She didn't like flying; heights freaked her out. The last time she flew was with William. Memories of that time, one by one, started flooding back.

The plane crash, William holding her as they parachuted. It was then that Margaret truly realized her feelings for William. Looking back, it felt pretty ironic. She gave her heart to William, but he was head over heels for another woman.

"Margaret, what are you thinking about?" Juniper's voice snapped her back to reality.

Margaret looked at Juniper, "Nothing."

"You're thinking about William, aren't you?" Juniper said. "You can't let go."

Margaret was taken aback, "Why do you say that?"

"Just a hunch." Juniper sipped her juice and smiled.

It wasn't just a hunch; it was based on years of knowing Margaret inside out.

Margaret was silent for a moment, then softly said, "I don't know."

Her mind was a mess. Even though she had firmly called off her engagement to William, she couldn't stop thinking about him.

"Stop fooling yourself." Juniper patted Margaret's shoulder. "I can tell you still have feelings for William, and he does too."

Margaret said gloomily, "Juniper, don't joke around. You know William likes Marjorie, right?"

"I know, and that's why you canceled your engagement with William without a second thought." Juniper put down her juice and looked at Margaret seriously. "Because you chase perfection, especially in relationships, you can't stand any flaws. But have you ever thought that all of this is too coincidental?"
