Chapter 121 I Thought I Was A Goner

As soon as Margaret mentioned leaving, William's handsome mug got a bit frosty. He thought, 'Is she ditching because of what my mom just said? Or is there some other reason?'

"Margaret, my mom's just like that. Don't sweat it." William suddenly stepped closer and grabbed her shoulders. His deep eyes flashed with a weird light, and he spoke in a low, husky voice, "Trust me, I'll deal with my mom. She won't bug you again."

Meeting William's intense gaze, Margaret's heart skipped a beat. Taking a step back, she smiled and switched gears. "Let's drop it. We gotta get going. If we don't leave now, we'll be late."

William's gaze went back to its usual chill, and he said lightly, "Let's roll!"

They hit the airport, and William led Margaret to a stop in front of a swanky Boeing jet.

"Is this your ride?" Margaret checked out the fancy plane in front of her.

Before, on her birthday, Xavier had wanted to buy her a plane like this, but Margaret turned it down 'cause she was scared of heights.

"Mr. Fisher, Ms. Scott," the captain and flight attendants stood respectfully at the door, welcoming them.

"Let's get on." William took Margaret's hand and led her onto the plane. The plane spread its wings and soon soared into the clouds.

Up high, Margaret sat next to William, her calm gaze looking out at the layers of clouds.

"What’s on your mind?" William suddenly asked softly in her ear.

"Nothing." Margaret turned back, meeting William's deep gaze, and cleared her throat. "I was thinking about who could be messing with the Fisher Group."

"We'll find out soon enough when we get to Fleurancia." William smiled. "Don't overthink it. Want something to drink?"

Margaret thought for a moment. "Orange juice, please."

William called the flight attendant and said in a deep voice, "A glass of orange juice, please."

"Sure, just a sec." the flight attendant smiled.

Five minutes later, the flight attendant handed Margaret the orange juice. "Ms. Scott, your orange juice."

"Thanks." Margaret took the juice and was about to drink it when the plane suddenly jolted and started dropping fast.

"Ah!" Margaret yelped.

At the same time, the lights on the plane went out, plunging everything into darkness.

The on-and-off feeling of weightlessness made Margaret tremble, and the endless darkness wrapped her in fear. It felt like she was falling into an endless pit, surrounded by darkness, continuously plummeting.

The sensation was so real, like it had actually happened before.

Margaret reached out, trying to grab onto something, but there was nothing to hold onto. The despairing fear spread through her body.

"Help me!" Margaret's face turned pale, and she cried out in panic.

William extended his large, well-defined hand and tightly embraced her, asking with concern, "Margaret, what's wrong? You okay?"

William's broad and warm embrace calmed her heart a bit. She instinctively held onto him, feeling a bit of post-traumatic relief. "I am so scared."

"Don't sweat it, it's just turbulence." Feeling her cling to him, William couldn't help but crack a slight smile.

Soon enough, the plane leveled out, and the lights flickered back on.

Realizing she was still clutching William, Margaret's face went beet red, and she quickly let go. "Sorry, I kinda freaked out there."

"It's no biggie," William said in a deep voice, though his eyes showed a hint of concern.

"I was seriously scared," Margaret patted her chest and took a deep breath, "I thought I was a goner."

"I didn't know you were that scared of heights," William smirked a bit.

Most of the time, Margaret was all cool, calm, and collected. Seeing her so freaked out was a rare sight.

Margaret took a few deep breaths to steady herself. "You don't get it, I'm terrified of the dark and heights. Just now, I had both, so yeah, I was scared."

William held her hand, his deep eyes gentle and firm. "With me here, you don't need to be afraid."

The warmth from his touch sent a wave of comfort through Margaret's heart.

Actually, William was really good. If it weren't for Marjorie, she thought she might accept him. But Margaret couldn't accept that William's heart always had another woman.

Margaret sighed softly, pulled her hand back, and said calmly, "Thanks."

Feeling her pull away, William's eyes dimmed a bit. He turned his head, his gaze deep, and his voice low. "Margaret, do you really not want to accept me?"

Margaret was stunned for a moment, then snapped back. "William, now's not the time for this. Have you forgotten why we're going to Fleurancia? The Fisher Group's in trouble, and you're thinking about this?"

"Trouble?" William smiled faintly, his handsome face calm and confident. "This little hiccup isn't trouble for me."

Actually, Margaret didn't think it was a big deal either, but finding out who was behind the mess would take some time.

The rest of the flight was smooth, no more bumps. When the plane landed, Margaret exhaled deeply.

Jones and Bruce were already waiting for them at the Fleurancia airport. As soon as Margaret and William got off the plane, Bruce stepped forward. "Mr. Fisher, Ms. Scott, long time no see."

"Hey, Bruce." Margaret smiled and shook hands with him.

"Mr. Fisher, we've found out that in the warehouse of Factory No. 1, one of the raw materials is detected to be substandard, containing radioactive elements," Jones eagerly reported to William.

"So, it's the raw materials that are the problem?" William's eyes narrowed slightly.

"William, sorry, I also have some responsibility for this." Bruce's tone carried a bit of guilt, as this happened in Fleurancia, and the products from the Fleurancia branch factory were distributed by Bruce's Lady Fashion.

"Bruce, let's go and see what's going on," William said coldly.

"Mr. Fisher, why don't you and Ms. Scott go to the hotel to rest first? You've had a long journey," Jones suggested, noticing Margaret's tired face.

"No need, let's head to Factory No. 1 now." Margaret shook her head, eager to get to the bottom of things.
