Chapter 110 A Perfect Match for You
As soon as she heard the name "William," Margaret felt a wave of irritation wash over her. She slammed her glass down on the table. "Can we not talk about him?"
"Oh, hit a nerve, did I?" Juniper smirked. "Seriously though, William's the real deal. I've been hearing about him forever while I was abroad, and meeting him today, he totally lives up to the hype."
"What's so great about him?" Margaret frowned, her mind flashing back to what William had said in the elevator earlier.
"Tall, handsome, loaded, and powerful—he's like, the perfect package for you." Juniper teased.
Margaret downed another drink in one gulp. "You're so basic!"
Juniper cleared her throat. "My eyes don't lie. At the press conference, you two were in perfect sync, like you were made for each other. Margaret, don't tell me you haven't fallen for him."
"Stop talking nonsense." Margaret leaned back and took a deep breath. "There's nothing between us. You know that. My grandpa insisted I spend three months in Ravenford with him. We agreed to call off the engagement afterward."
Juniper shrugged. "Alright, how about we make a bet?"
"What kind of bet?" Margaret leaned back and asked indifferently.
Juniper smiled. "Let's bet on whether you'll call off the engagement with William after three months. If you lose, give me that handmade necklace of yours. Deal?"
Juniper had been eyeing Margaret's necklace for a long time. Margaret was skilled in everything from fashion design to computer hacking, and even her handmade necklaces were top-notch.
"You're definitely going to lose." Margaret smirked. "Enough about me. Let's talk about you. How's your prince charming, Alden?"
At the mention of Alden Winslow, Juniper's eyes dimmed. She stared at her glass and said softly, "He's gone to a remote area to teach."
Margaret was speechless. "Teaching in a remote area? Well, that's meaningful. But does that mean he's giving up on your relationship?"
Alden and Juniper were from the same college. He was tall, handsome, and academically excellent—a name on everybody's tongue at school. They became a couple after a fierce debate competition.
But the Hayes family disapproved of their relationship because Alden lost his father early and came from a poor background. Juniper had a huge fight with her family over this and ran abroad, almost getting harassed by some thugs on the street. It was then that Margaret appeared in time to save Juniper, and they became inseparable best friends.
Later, Margaret started Leo Studio, and Juniper became its manager, helping Margaret run the studio. However, Juniper and Alden had always been in a state of on-again, off-again.
Margaret's tone carried a hint of dissatisfaction. "If he truly loves you, he should go abroad with you, make a career, and show your family that he can bring you happiness. What's he doing running off to the remote area alone? I really don't get what you see in him."
Juniper sighed deeply. "Love is blind. Once you fall for someone, it's hard to let go."
Margaret was about to say something when a surprised voice came from behind. "Hey, Margaret! Long time no see!"
She turned around to see Samuel striding towards her.
"Samuel, what a coincidence." Margaret gave a small smile.
Samuel was a regular at the bar. He had brought some friends over tonight and was stoked to see Margaret, so he came over to say hi.
"This lovely lady must be the famous Juniper," Samuel said with a dramatic flair, snapping his fingers. "I've heard so much about you."
Margaret chuckled and introduced Juniper. "This is Samuel, the hotshot star lately."
"Samuel, I know. I've seen you on TV," Juniper nodded politely and greeted him. "Hey there."
Feeling right at home, Samuel plopped down and gestured towards the dance floor. "How about joining us for a dance? My friends are all over there."
"I'm good. You guys go ahead." Margaret rubbed her temples, feeling a bit worn out.
With Samuel's enthusiastic invite, Juniper and Samuel headed to the dance floor, leaving Margaret alone in the corner of the bar.
Watching the excited dancers, Margaret's mind drifted to the image of William and Lucy dancing.
What was William's deal? On one hand, he said he wanted to develop something with her, but on the other, he was all lovey-dovey with Lucy. Was he trying to string along two women at the same time?
Feeling a wave of irritation, Margaret downed a few more drinks and started to feel unwell, so she headed to the restroom.
When she came back, she saw a guy in a red shirt, who looked like a thug, sitting in the seat next to hers.
Seeing Margaret return, the guy in the red shirt whistled. "Hey, cutie, drinking alone? How about a dance?"
Margaret shot him a sidelong glance and ignored him, taking a few hurried sips from her glass, which made her choke. Her throat felt scratchy, and Margaret started coughing.
The guy in the red shirt eyed her maliciously and reached out to support her. "You're drunk, girl. Let me take you home."
"Get lost!" Margaret angrily shook off his hand.
"Oh, feisty, huh? I like that kind of temper," the guy said, undeterred.
Such a beauty. If he could have his way with her, it would be a real treat.
His face was full of lust as he stared at Margaret greedily. "Name your price."
Margaret frowned and said coldly, "If you don't leave, I won't be nice!"
"Not nice? Sure, come with me, and you can do whatever you want." The guy in the red shirt said eagerly, reaching out to grab Margaret.
Margaret stomped hard on his foot, causing him to release her in pain. She turned to leave, but the guy wouldn't give up. He grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him. "You're mine tonight!"
With a loud bang, Margaret grabbed a nearby bottle and smashed it over his head. Blood flowed instantly.
"You bitch, you're asking for it!" The guy in the red shirt hadn't expected Margaret to fight back and looked at her with bloodthirsty eyes. "Do you know who I am?"
Margaret held the bottle, a cold smile on her lips. "I don't care who you are. Get lost!"
