Chapter 270 Unveiling the Truth 1

Everyone was totally floored when they heard about the doping.

Skylar was completely lost. "Don't you dare accuse me! I don't even know you!" Her voice was shaking.

She couldn't wrap her head around why Arlene and this prop dude were setting her up. She hadn't done anything to these two.

"Ms. Tate, this is the check you gave me. How can you say you don't know me?" The prop guy pointed at the check, and sure enough, it had Skylar's signature on it.

Skylar was left speechless. All the evidence was screaming that she was the mastermind trying to mess with Margaret.

Margaret watched the whole thing with a cold smirk. 'Mia is something else, bribing all these people to mess with me and frame Skylar.'

Just then, a few cops rolled in.

"Mr. Pennington, did you call us? What's going on?" one of the officers asked Lyle.

"Yeah, we had an incident of intentional harm," Lyle said, his voice serious, and he laid out the whole story.

Before the cops could say anything, Mia jumped in. "Officer, Skylar's the one who tried to hurt Ms. Scott. We've got two witnesses and physical evidence. Take her to the station!"

She was in a rush to pin everything on Skylar and get herself out of the mess. Since she didn't manage to hurt Margaret, she had to cover her own tracks first and then figure out her next move.

"Is this the knife?" The officer's eyes landed on the knife on the ground.

Margaret stepped up. "Yep."

The officer told his forensic buddy, "Check the fingerprints."

"Got it." The forensic guy put on gloves, crouched down, and carefully picked up the knife.

"Mr. Pennington, Ms. Scott, we need you to come with us to give a statement," the officer said.

"Sure." Margaret nodded.

They headed to a nearby rest area, and the cops started taking statements from everyone.

"It was Ms. Tate who told me to do this." Arlene and the prop guy both stuck to their story that it was Skylar.

But Skylar kept denying it. "I didn't do it. During the break today, I was with Clio the whole time. She can back me up."

"Yes, officer, I can vouch for her. It wasn't Ms. Tate," Clio said quickly.

"Officer, Clio is Ms. Tate's agent. You can't trust her. It was really Ms. Tate who told me to do it," Arlene insisted again.

The officer taking the statements wrote everything down and said seriously, "We'll investigate thoroughly."

After a bit, the fingerprint results came back. The forensic guy handed the report to the officer taking the statements. "According to our tests, the knife only has Skylar's fingerprints on it."

"Only Skylar's fingerprints? Then it must be her!" Mia jumped in, "With all these witnesses and the evidence, it's gotta be her!"

"No, it wasn't me!" Skylar was freaking out, looking at Margaret with desperation. "Ms. Scott, I swear I didn't do it!"

Margaret patted Skylar's shoulder with a faint smile. "It's exactly because the knife only has Skylar's fingerprints that it proves she isn't the real culprit."

Mia was taken aback. "Ms. Scott, what do you mean?"

"I'm saying the person who set all this up to hurt me isn't Skylar," Margaret said calmly.

"How can that be? The cop just said the knife only has Skylar's fingerprints. If not her, then who?" Mia stammered.

Worried that Margaret might be onto something, Mia's eyes flashed with unease, and she clenched her hands tightly. She reassured herself that everything she did was perfect and that Margaret wouldn't find out. Margaret must be bluffing; she couldn't lose her cool.

Margaret pointed at the knife in the forensic officer's hand and said coldly, "This knife was in Skylar's hand during the shoot, so it's normal for her fingerprints to be on it. But isn't it weird that it only has Skylar's fingerprints?"

Hearing Margaret's words, everyone started to get it.

Lyle glanced at Margaret. "Margaret, you mean?"

Margaret smiled mockingly. "From production to being bought and brought to the set, this knife couldn't have only been handled by Skylar. So it's impossible for it to have only her fingerprints."

Pausing, Margaret continued, "But now, it indeed only has Skylar's fingerprints. Why? The only explanation is that someone wiped all the fingerprints off the knife when switching it, to avoid leaving their own. And after that, only Skylar touched the knife during the shoot."

Margaret's explanation made everyone realize the truth. The onlookers started buzzing.

"Ms. Scott makes sense. It seems the real culprit is someone else. Who could be so malicious to harm Ms. Scott?"

"But if it wasn't Ms. Tate, why did Arlene and the others insist it was her?"

"Maybe it's a frame-up?"

"Who could it be? Why would they do this?"

Hearing these words, Mia's face changed. The knife was switched by Arlene under her instructions, but she didn't expect Arlene to be so foolish and leave such a big loophole.

"Maybe Skylar wiped the fingerprints herself out of guilt," Mia bit her lip and said.

No matter what, Mia had to make Skylar the scapegoat today.

Skylar looked at Mia angrily. "Mia, what do you mean? Why are you targeting me?"

"I'm just stating the facts." Mia took a deep breath and pretended to be calm. "Skylar, you should just admit it."

"Facts?" Margaret sneered, her cold gaze falling on Mia, and said sternly, "The fact is, the person behind all this is you, Mia!"
