Chapter 269 Framing and Blaming 2

"How could it not be you?" Mia was all up in Skylar's face, not letting her off the hook. "Who else could it be, huh?"

"I got no beef with Ms. Scott, why would I even do that?" Skylar shot back, clearly pissed at Mia's accusations.

"Because you're totally jealous of Ms. Scott." Mia smirked. "Just now, when I was learning from her, you were throwing shade. Everyone saw it."

The crowd around them nodded, backing Mia up.

Skylar's beef with Margaret was pretty obvious. And everyone knew Skylar had a thing for Lyle. Now it was clear Lyle was into Margaret.

So, it kinda made sense that Skylar, green with envy, messed with the props to screw over Margaret.

Margaret watched Mia's little show with a cold smile and told Lyle, "Call the cops!"

"Ms. Scott, it wasn't me. Why would I do that?" Skylar tried to explain, looking desperate.

Margaret just nodded, all cool and indifferent. "Whoever it is, I'll get to the bottom of it. I won't blame the wrong person, but I won't let the guilty one off either!"

Mia gave a nod to a staff member nearby, who then stepped up to Margaret. She glanced nervously at Margaret. "Ms. Scott, there's something I think you should know."

"What is it?" Margaret's eyes locked onto the staff member.

The staff member, Arlene Rivera, had taken Mia's bribe. Following Mia's cue, she said, "I just checked the props room and saw Ms. Tate switch the knife."

"Really?" Margaret asked, still cool as a cucumber.

Before Arlene could say more, Skylar's face flushed with anger. "You're full of it! When did I switch the knife?"

"No way it was Skylar." Clio rushed over. "I've been with her the whole time. I can vouch for her."

"You're her agent. Everyone knows you two are tight. Why should we believe you?" Mia scoffed.

"Ms. Davis, stop making stuff up! Show us some real proof!" Clio fired back, clearly pissed.

She knew Skylar well. Sure, Skylar could be a bit of a diva and didn't like Margaret, but she wouldn't pull something like this. She couldn't figure out why Mia was framing Skylar.

"Someone saw it with their own eyes. Isn't that proof enough?" Mia sneered.

"Yeah, and a few days ago, Ms. Tate herself said she was super pissed at Ms. Scott," Arlene quickly added, pulling out her phone. "I accidentally recorded it. Listen to this."

Arlene played the recording.

In the recording, Skylar's voice was clear. "Margaret is such a fake. She's playing both Mr. Fisher and Lyle. One day, I'll take her down!"

Mia grinned. "You all heard that, right? Skylar's been holding a grudge against Ms. Scott, and today she finally snapped and went after her."

"You're lying! I didn't do it!" Skylar's face twisted with anger as she glared at Arlene.

She remembered that day when Arlene had baited her into badmouthing Margaret and realized it was all a setup.

"You set me up!" Skylar's voice was shaking with rage.

Margaret gave Skylar a cold look, then turned her icy gaze to Arlene. "If you saw it, why didn't you say something then? Why didn't you stop her?"

Arlene was caught off guard, quickly looking down. "I'm just a lowly staff member. How could I dare to cross Ms. Tate?"

"And now? Now you dare to cross her?" Margaret smiled coldly.

Arlene bit her lip. "I saw Ms. Scott almost get hurt just now. I regretted not speaking up before. I felt guilty, so I decided to come clean. I don't want to live with this guilt."

As soon as Arlene finished, another props guy stepped forward. He said, "Ms. Scott, I'm so sorry!"

Margaret looked at him, her face unreadable. "What's going on? Get up and talk."

The props guy replied, his voice full of guilt. "Ms. Scott, the loose screws on your swing weren't an accident. It was..."

"What was it?" Margaret's voice was ice-cold.

The props guy hesitated, then, seeing Mia's secret signal, took a deep breath and said, "Actually, I loosened the screws on purpose."

His words left everyone around them in shock.

"Why the hell would you do that?" Lyle stepped forward, grabbing the guy by the collar.

That time, Margaret had fallen from the swing. If William hadn't shown up in time, she would've been seriously hurt.

Lyle had always been haunted by that incident. Every time, William was a step ahead of him in protecting Margaret. He had always thought it was an accident, but now it turned out someone had messed with the swing. An indescribable anger built up in Lyle's heart.

"It was Ms. Tate who told me to do it," The props guy glanced at Skylar and said cautiously.

Skylar was stunned and furious. "What the hell are you talking about? When did I tell you to do that?"

Skylar was completely baffled.

"Ms. Tate, I've been eaten up by guilt. This is the check you gave me. I'm giving it back," The props guy said, pulling a check from his pocket and shoving it into Skylar's hands.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Scott. I was greedy and did something terrible. Please forgive me," The props guy kept apologizing to Margaret.

"And that time your horse freaked out, that wasn't an accident either," The props guy continued, "That was also because Ms. Tate told me to give the horse a stimulant, so..."
