Chapter 452 Don't Let Me Down
"Susan, an assistant, huh?" Mia repeated softly, a sly smile tugging at her lips, her eyes sparkling with satisfaction. "Since Ms. Davis is so sure about this, I'll be waiting for your good news. Don't let me down."
"Absolutely."
Mia flashed a confident grin. The two women shared a knowing glance and let the topic drop, taking a symbolic sip of their coffee. Some things were meant to stay in the shadows, never to see the light of day.
After the chaos of Samuel's hospital discharge, Juniper's life had definitely mellowed out. Even her social media had picked up some of Samuel's fans, though the comments were always a mixed bag. At first, Juniper found it unsettling, but she learned to brush off the negativity over time.
These days, her routine revolved around taking care of her health and nurturing her relationship with Samuel. Juniper had made up her mind; since she promised to marry Samuel, they couldn't just stay stuck in their current situation. Sooner or later, it would become a problem.
After chilling at home for over two weeks, Samuel's health was finally on the mend. He couldn't jump back into major scenes on set yet, but he'd rehearsed the unfinished parts at home a million times, often roping Juniper into scenes with the female lead.
During this time, Samuel had been cooking up a plan.
"Juniper, I'm out of meds. Could you swing by the hospital and grab some for me?" Samuel needed to take medication regularly to keep his internal organs stable after being discharged.
Juniper didn't hesitate for a second. "Sure, I'll head out now."
It was four in the afternoon, and the doctor would be off at five.
Watching Juniper leave, Samuel, knowing she wouldn't be back soon, eagerly dashed into the closet, pulling out the stuff he'd prepped to set up.
Half an hour later, while arranging the walls, Samuel called Juniper again. "Hey, Juniper, when you're on your way back, could you stop by Meet Sugar and grab two boxes of mango pudding and a low-sugar Black Forest cake? I'm really craving something sweet."
"Okay, but I'm at the hospital picking up the meds now, and the bakery's on the west side of town. I might not be back until after seven. Can you wait?"
"Of course, take your time, I'm in no rush!" Samuel replied, his excitement barely contained. He wanted Juniper to come back as late as possible.
Juniper hung up, frowning at the screen. Samuel was acting a bit odd today. Oh well, she'd get the meds and the desserts first.
By the time she got home, it was already eight in the evening. Dane had finally convinced Dione to let the kids spend some time together, so they had gone back to their hometown for a while.
"I'm back," Juniper called out as she opened the door. Turning her head, she noticed the dimly lit room. Instinctively, she looked to the left and saw two candles on the dining table, each with a glass of red wine, and a glass vase with a bouquet of gardenias.
Samuel was busy in the kitchen. Hearing her voice, he quickly turned off the stove and brought the cooked steak to the table. "Juniper, you're back. Wash up and let's eat."
Juniper, a bit puzzled, slowed her steps. Seeing the flowers and candles, she was genuinely surprised. "What's all this? Is today a special occasion?"
Samuel chuckled, pulling out a chair for her. Once Juniper sat down, he moved to the other side and said, "You've been taking care of me since I got home from the hospital, and even before that. I know it's been hard on you, especially with the baby. So today, I wanted to make you dinner. Try the steak I made."
As he spoke, he handed her the plate of pre-cut steak from his side, swapping it with the whole piece in front of her.
A warm feeling spread through Juniper. She knew Samuel was a thoughtful man, and she did have feelings for him.
"It's delicious. You must have worked hard on all this," Juniper said, savoring a bite of steak, her eyes lighting up with pleasant surprise. Besides the steak, there were fries, ham, and two bowls of cream of mushroom soup on the table.
Samuel shook his head. "As long as it's for you, it's never hard. Juniper, I know you've been through a lot, but as long as I'm here, I won't let you suffer."
Juniper hesitated, setting down her utensils to face Samuel. She was about to say something when Samuel stood up, smiling. "Juniper, wait here. I'll be right back!"
Confused, Juniper watched him dash into the study. A few minutes later, Samuel emerged with a large bouquet of red roses, a ring box nestled in the center.
Juniper was stunned, her heart racing like a drum.
Samuel approached her solemnly, kneeling on one knee. He opened the ring box with one hand, looking at Juniper with a gentle smile.
"Juniper, I know you might not be ready to fully accept me yet, but I genuinely want to take care of you for life. I hope you'll marry me. As for love, I can wait. Will you give me a chance to take care of you and the baby?"
"Will you marry me?"
Perhaps it was the candlelight, but Samuel's eyes seemed to shine, his expression earnest.
Juniper stood there, her gaze fixed on the bouquet and the ring box, before finally meeting Samuel's eyes. She knew he was sincere.
If that's the case, then let's get married.
As soon as the thought crossed her mind, Juniper nodded, smiling earnestly. "Yes, I'll marry you."
Samuel was overjoyed. He hadn't expected much hope today, so hearing Juniper agree was a delightful surprise.
He eagerly slipped the ring onto Juniper's finger, grinning like a fool. He handed her the bouquet and stepped forward, arms open for a hug. But as he reached her, he hesitated, unsure of how to proceed. Juniper couldn't help but laugh, setting the roses aside and embracing Samuel herself.
