Chapter 153 Won't Spare Me a Glance
"Why?" Lyle's eyes went dark, and he shot out, "Aren't you and William just in some contract thing? Didn't you say you didn't even like him and were gonna break it off soon? Is he forcing you?"
Seeing Lyle all worked up, Margaret just shook her head, kinda exasperated. "Do you really think anyone could force me?"
"Then why..." Lyle's face showed a mix of sadness and hurt.
Yeah, knowing Margaret, no one could make her do anything, not even William. So, did Margaret go for William because of that?
Margaret pressed her lips together and finally gave Lyle an answer. "Because I fell for William. So, I went for it."
"No way, that's nuts!" Lyle's face was full of shock and disbelief.
Margaret had always said her thing with William was just some engagement their grandpas set up, and she didn't have feelings for him. How could she fall for him?!
"While I was in Fleurancia, I got to know William better," Margaret explained, "Especially after we crashed and fell into the sea, William risked his life to save me. He's someone I can trust with my life."
"Margaret, that's not love." Lyle put his hands on Margaret's shoulders. "You're just moved by what William did. Being moved isn't the same as love. I can do everything William did for you, so why not choose me?"
"Lyle, don't do this." Margaret gently pushed Lyle away. "We're not right for each other."
Lyle's eyes were filled with hurt. "Margaret, don't you know William's heart belongs to Marjorie?"
Margaret's heart sank a bit. She frowned and said, "Marjorie is in William's past. Now, the person William loves is me."
"Margaret, stop fooling yourself. Are you sure? If Marjorie suddenly shows up one day, can you guarantee William won't choose her?"
Lyle's words hit Margaret hard, making her feel really uneasy. She had thought about the chance that Marjorie might still be alive and could show up one day. But when she decided to be with William, she had already made up her mind. She would make William fall completely in love with her, so his heart would only have room for her and no one else, including Marjorie.
Thinking of this, Margaret nodded firmly. "Yes, I'm sure."
"I hope you don't regret it someday," Lyle said, letting go of Margaret.
In the distance, Lucy and Grace were heading towards the Fisher Group. During the days William was missing, Lucy was so worried she couldn't eat or sleep, fearing something bad had happened to him. The news conference of the Fisher Group today had already spread online. As soon as Lucy saw the news and learned William was back, she rushed to the Fisher Group with Grace.
Who knew they'd see Margaret and Lyle chatting all friendly at the entrance of the Fisher Group, looking pretty close.
"Grace, what are they doing?" Lucy stopped and looked at Grace beside her.
Grace's face was already pretty grim, and she said angrily, "Isn't it just that shameless Margaret trying to seduce Lyle!"
Grace was itching to rush over and pull Margaret and Lyle apart, but Lucy held her back. "What are you doing?"
Lucy, of course, was hoping Margaret and Lyle would hit it off. It'd be perfect if Margaret dumped William on her own. Even if she didn't, William wouldn't put up with her juggling two guys at once.
Grace shot daggers at Margaret, watching her get into Lyle's car.
"What, still hung up on Lyle?" Seeing Grace's dreamy and angry look, Lucy smirked. "If you want Lyle, it's easy. Just get rid of Margaret."
"You're right, Lucy." Grace nodded, already plotting a thousand ways to take Margaret down in her head.
Just then, a tall, handsome figure walked out of the Fisher Group.
"William!" Lucy ran over, all excited. Seeing the guy she'd been thinking about day and night, Lucy's eyes sparkled with admiration.
William frowned. "Lucy?"
"William, you're back. I'm so glad you're okay." Lucy's true feelings showed, and her eyes got a bit teary. "You have no idea how much I've missed and worried about you. Thank goodness you're safe."
William's eyes were a bit cold, and he replied politely, "I'm fine. Thanks for your concern."
"By the way, William, how are things with you and Margaret?" Lucy asked casually, "When I got here, I saw Margaret and Lyle hugging at the entrance, and then she got into his car."
'Hugging? Got into Lyle's car? What is Margaret up to? She just agreed to be with me, swearing she'd be mine, and now she's with Lyle?' William's face grew colder at the thought.
Lucy's voice took an exaggerated, almost taunting tone, "They looked like a couple. William, did you and Margaret break up? After all, your relationship is just a contract, and there's nothing wrong with Margaret being with Lyle."
"Lucy, I'll say it one more time, I don't want to hear any gossip about Margaret," William gave Lucy a cold look and spoke in a calm voice. He might be angry, but he wouldn't let anyone talk trash about Margaret or judge her.
Lucy, not ready to give up, said, "William, why are you so good to Margaret? She doesn't deserve it."
"That's not for you to decide." William's eyes grew colder, sending a chill down her spine. With that, he ignored Lucy and walked past her.
Watching William's cold and distant back, Lucy felt really hurt. "William, one day you'll regret this!"
Meanwhile, Margaret sat in Lyle's car, and Lyle gripped the steering wheel tightly, driving in silence. The vibe was kinda awkward.
Even though she'd been busy with the Fisher Group's stuff these past few days, she'd also been keeping an eye on Starlight Entertainment. Lyle had moved a lot of overseas business to the domestic market, investing in several big films, causing a big stir in the entertainment industry.
"You did a great job," Margaret said sincerely. Lyle had a knack for this, otherwise, Margaret wouldn't have invested in Starlight Entertainment in the first place.
Lyle smiled bitterly. "No matter how well I do, you won't even spare me a glance."
