Chapter 456 I Really Like You

The ambulance pulled up to the hospital, and after checking out Seraphina's injuries, the doctor said, "You gotta be more careful. You've got a moderate fracture, and it'll take at least three to five months before you can move it. You need to chill and avoid lifting anything heavy. What's up with young folks these days? I'll have the nurse put a cast on you. You'll need to stay here for a few days so we can keep an eye on you."

Seraphina hesitated, worried Lyle might feel guilty if he heard. She gave the doctor a small smile and said, "It was my own fault. I hurt my arm while filming. I'll keep what you said in mind, but how long do I need to stay here? I still have a few scenes to shoot..."

"With your condition, you should forget about filming for now. How long you'll need to stay depends on how your arm heals. If you leave too soon and it gets worse, who's gonna be responsible?"

The female doctor sighed and shook her head, a bit frustrated. Why don't young people take better care of themselves?

"And since it's your right hand, you won't be able to move it or lift anything for a while. I suggest you have someone help take care of you."

The doctor glanced up and saw Lyle standing next to Seraphina, looking worried. Assuming they were a couple, she said to Lyle, "Make sure you take good care of your girlfriend these next few days. It's tough for a young woman like her."

Seraphina was caught off guard. She looked at Lyle, worried he might be upset, and quickly tried to explain, "You've got it wrong, he's not..."

Lyle wanted to say something too, but the doctor waved them off. "Alright, alright, I don't need to know your business. You're just in time to help her get the cast and bandages. Moderate fracture, let's get a room ready."

Seeing this, Seraphina swallowed her words, glanced at Lyle with a mix of helplessness and caution, and followed the nurse to get her arm bandaged.

In the hospital room, Seraphina's arm was in a cast, suspended in front of her, completely immobile. Lyle sat in a chair by her bed, peeling fruit. Seraphina leaned against the headboard, looking at Lyle with embarrassment. After a long pause, she finally said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Pennington, for bothering you."

"Seraphina, you don't have to be so formal," Lyle replied, looking a bit confused. He smiled apologetically. "If you hadn't risked yourself to save me, I'd be the one lying here. I should be the one apologizing to you. Taking care of you is the least I can do."

Seraphina smiled, but the doctor's earlier words still made her uneasy. She hesitated before finally saying, "Mr. Pennington, don't take what the doctor said to heart."

Lyle chuckled, "Don't worry, I won't. She misunderstood. Aren't we good friends? I won't mind."

Good friends, just good friends?

Seraphina's face fell, her gaze dropping as her thumb tightened around the blanket. She knew Lyle had feelings for Margaret and had planned to keep her own feelings hidden forever.

But Lyle's words sparked something inside her, making it hard to let go. She realized she wanted to speak up.

This might be her only shot to find the courage.

"Mr. Pennington."

"Yeah?"

They spoke at the same time, as Lyle handed her a peeled apple. After a brief pause, Lyle smiled and said, "You go first, what's up?"

Seraphina met Lyle's eyes, her heart racing. She knew she shouldn't say it, but if she didn't now, she might never get the chance.

In the end, impulse won over reason.

Seraphina swallowed, trying to steady her nerves, and spoke quickly but clearly, "Mr. Pennington, I don't want what the doctor said to be just a misunderstanding. I really like you. I know you like Margaret, but I want to try. I want to be with you!"

Lyle was caught off guard, staring at Seraphina in surprise. Her eyes were filled with sincerity and seriousness.

Lyle was at a loss. He had never thought Seraphina might have feelings for him. He had always seen her as a little sister who needed care, nothing more.

Choosing his words carefully, Lyle said, "Seraphina, I think of us as really good friends. I can help you with your professional challenges. Let's keep it that way, okay?"

Though he didn't say it outright, his words were a clear rejection. With each word, Seraphina's heart sank further.

It seemed she really had no chance.

Seraphina's eyes showed her disappointment, and she simply nodded, whispering, "Okay, I understand."

Lyle wanted to say something to ease the tension but found himself at a loss for words. The room fell into a heavy silence. After a moment, he placed the apple in Seraphina's free hand and made an excuse.

"Seraphina, I just remembered I need to update the director about your injury. I can't stay at the hospital with you right now. Get some rest, and I'll visit you tomorrow."

The excuse was appropriate, but both knew the real reason for his hasty departure.

Lyle stood up and left the room without looking back at Seraphina. She watched the door close, unable to hide her disappointment.

Meanwhile, Lucy had been staying at the cosmetic surgery hospital for a while. Her wrist injury from the suicide attempt was severe, and even after returning home, she had to keep using the hospital's ointment to heal the scars. She also kept tabs on Margaret and William. When she found out they had gone to Parislia together, she saw an opportunity. She reached out to her contacts at the police station and personally went to the prison to smooth things over with the guards.
