Chapter 105 William and Lucy Dance
William finished talking and then strolled over to Margaret, cool as a cucumber. He reached out his hand, all smooth and suave, and gave a little nod. "Care to dance?"
Margaret looked at him, feeling a bit starstruck. The guy had this king-like vibe going on. There was no way she could turn down a dance with William in this setting.
"Sure thing." She smiled and placed her hand in his.
William led her to the dance floor. With the music playing, they started dancing, moving together like they’d been doing it forever. William looked down at her, his eyes intense. "Margaret, don’t you think we’re pretty in sync?"
Margaret nodded. "Yeah, it’s alright. Maybe slow down a bit, though."
William leaned in close, whispering in her ear, "That’s not what I meant."
His breath on her cheek made her skin tingle. Margaret felt her face heat up.
Yeah, they were definitely in sync.
A lot had gone down in the past month. Ella had tried to frame Margaret for pushing her into the water, but Margaret had busted her with a recording William found.
At today’s press conference, Margaret had to deal with Marilyn’s plagiarism claims. She brought Juniper to prove she was the real creator of "Ice and Fire," while William found out Vincent had stolen the design and sold it to Marilyn.
They worked together like a dream team.
Margaret smiled. "Yeah, we’re pretty in sync in more than just dancing."
William’s gaze softened. "So, can you think about my proposal again?"
Margaret’s heart skipped a beat. She knew what he meant. Being in sync was one thing, but being right for each other was another. A guy who couldn’t forget another woman wasn’t right for her.
She smiled faintly. "Don’t you think this is the wrong time to bring that up?"
"Really?" William raised an eyebrow.
Margaret replied coolly, "Absolutely. And I’ve already made myself clear. You can’t be that forgetful."
William’s face darkened, frustration in his eyes. He said nothing and kept dancing, his expression blank.
He was mad again. So petty. Margaret thought, quickly matching his steps.
Watching the handsome couple in the center of the dance floor, Lucy’s eyes burned with jealousy.
William inviting Margaret to dance was basically him saying they were a thing, making Margaret the star of the show! What kind of spell did this country girl Margaret cast on William?
"Lucy, don’t worry. Margaret won’t be in the spotlight for long." Grace tried to comfort her.
Lucy snapped out of it, tore her eyes away from Margaret on the dance floor, and muttered through clenched teeth, "Yeah, let's see how long she can keep that smug look!"
As the dance wrapped up, the banquet officially kicked off. William was the star of the show, surrounded by people. He handled it all with cool politeness. Amidst the clinking glasses, William downed a few drinks. When he looked up again, Margaret was nowhere in sight.
Margaret wasn't really into these lively events, so she found a quiet corner to chill. Just as she was about to grab some pastries, a smooth voice interrupted. "Margaret, mind if I join you?"
Margaret looked up and saw Lyle. "Sit wherever," she replied, not really caring.
Lyle plopped down next to her, turning to face her. "Margaret, about the Starlight Entertainment plan, we didn't finish last time."
Last time, they were supposed to discuss it at a restaurant, but William had crashed the party.
"Just email it to me. I'll check it out when I get a chance," Margaret said, taking a sip of her orange juice.
Lyle switched gears. "Margaret, can I ask you something?"
Margaret nodded. "Sure, shoot."
"Is your thing with William really just a contract?" Lyle asked, his eyes searching hers.
Lyle could tell William's feelings for Margaret were more than just business.
Margaret smirked. "What else would it be?"
Her answer made Lyle's heart skip a beat. He pressed on. "So, you've never liked William?"
This was a question Margaret always dodged. Right now, she couldn't even figure out her own feelings for William. But one thing she knew for sure: William liked Marjorie.
Thinking of this, Margaret pursed her lips and said calmly, "Nope, I don't like William. It's just a contract, nothing more."
William's tall figure was hidden in the dim light.
He couldn't find Margaret anywhere, but then he spotted her and Lyle sitting on a sofa in the corner. He walked over and caught Margaret's dismissive tone.
With a cold expression, William looked down at her. "Margaret, say that again."
Margaret was stunned. How did William sneak up on her like that? Did he hear everything she said to Lyle?
Margaret smiled faintly. "Sorry, I don't do repeats."
Their eyes locked, and Margaret felt the tension radiating from William, freezing the air around them.
Just then, Lucy strutted over in her high heels and purred, "William, care for a dance?"
After a moment of silence, William nodded coolly. "Sure."
"William, you really want to dance with me?" Lucy's voice was filled with disbelief and joy.
William actually agreed to dance with her. Was she dreaming?
Remembering the night Margaret got jealous over him and Lucy, William's lips curled slightly. He gave Margaret a deep look, then led Lucy to the dance floor.
