Chapter 104 Opening Dance
Margaret and William stood at the entrance of the banquet hall, their reflections bouncing off the revolving glass door.
William shot a sideways glance at the woman next to him, his eyes lingering on her stunning and elegant figure. He extended his arm, bending it slightly, and said in a deep voice, "Hold onto me."
Margaret hesitated for a moment before grabbing his arm. Tonight, she was William's plus-one; linking arms was a part of the manners.
Seeing Margaret being so compliant was a rare sight, and William couldn't help but smirk a little. They walked into the banquet hall side by side, instantly causing a buzz among the crowd.
William, rocking a perfectly tailored black suit, showed off his flawless physique. His mere presence made him the center of attention, drawing everyone's gaze.
Margaret stood beside him, but she wasn't overshadowed by William's brilliance at all. She wore a long, pure white dress that highlighted her exquisite and graceful figure, and her cool and elegant demeanor made it impossible for people to look away.
As soon as they appeared, reporters swarmed them, shoving microphones in William's face.
"Is tonight's celebration banquet for Miss Scott?"
"Are you and Miss Scott about to get hitched?"
Peter, always sharp, blocked the reporters. "Sorry, Mr. Fisher isn't taking interviews right now."
Margaret turned slightly and looked at William, "They've got a lot of questions."
William's lips curved slightly, his eyes twinkling with a hint of a smile as he looked at Margaret's face. "As my fiancée, you need to get used to this."
Why was he bringing this up again? Hadn't she made herself clear enough before? Margaret awkwardly changed the subject. "By the way, how did you know it was Vincent who sold the design to Marilyn?"
"Peter found out," William explained coolly, narrowing his eyes slightly and furrowing his brows. "It wasn't hard to figure out. Only a few people knew about the 'Ice and Fire' design."
"But Vincent wasn't involved in the project," Margaret said, suspicious.
"Eloise was," William explained coldly. "Vincent is Eloise's boyfriend."
"Oh, I see," Margaret said thoughtfully. "But why would Vincent do that? Once discovered, not only would he lose his job, but he would also drag Eloise down with him."
William replied indifferently, "He said it was for money."
Selling out his girlfriend for cash? Maybe the lure of money was strong, but Margaret felt there was more to the story.
As Margaret pondered whether there was more to it, William suddenly spoke in a deep voice, "Now it's my turn to ask you."
Margaret snapped out of her thoughts, puzzled. "What do you want to ask?"
"What's your deal with Juniper Hayes?" William leaned in close to Margaret, asking in a low, deep voice by her ear, "And that authorization agreement, when was it signed? Why didn't I know about it?"
Margaret was momentarily stunned. She couldn't possibly tell William that she was Leo, could she?
After thinking for a moment, Margaret smiled and playfully blinked her bright eyes. "Guess."
Their cozy chat caught the eye of Lucy, who was lurking nearby.
"Lucy, check out Margaret's flirty act. Guys just eat that up," Grace chimed in.
Lucy, holding a glass of red wine, shot daggers at Margaret. "Isn't she just the queen of seduction? Tonight, let her work her magic all she wants."
"You mean..." Grace asked, curious.
Lucy leaned in and whispered in Grace's ear, then sneered. "I've got a big surprise for Margaret tonight. She's gonna love it!"
Grace caught on and gave Lucy a thumbs-up. "Lucy, you're a genius! This way, we can take her down without anyone suspecting us."
"Of course," Lucy said, looking smug. "As long as Annie pulls it off, we'll call William and the reporters over. I want William to see how his precious fiancée really acts in front of everyone!"
Grace nodded. "Right, a proud guy like William would never let his fiancée embarrass him in public. Margaret's toast!"
"Exactly. William's totally under her spell, treating her like gold. Soon, he'll see her true colors!" Lucy said with a wicked grin.
"Yeah, once William sees the real Margaret, he'll kick her to the curb. Then he'll come back to you," Grace said, buttering her up.
Lucy nodded, satisfied, and glanced around the banquet hall. "By the way, where's Annie? Why isn't she here yet?"
Whether this plan would work tonight hinged on Annie. Annie wouldn't flake at the last minute, would she?
As Lucy was pondering, Grace pointed to the entrance, her voice excited. "Lucy, there she is. Annie and Bruce are here!"
Lucy nodded, her eyes filled with ruthless determination.
At eight o'clock sharp, the celebration banquet kicked off. The hall was filled with smooth tunes, and as the music played, the host took the stage. "Welcome everyone to the Fisher Group's celebration banquet. Let's start with a big round of applause for the president of the Fisher Group to give a speech."
Amidst the enthusiastic applause, William walked gracefully and steadily towards the stage.
The spotlight hit William, making him look like he was glowing. He stood like a king on his stage, looking down on everyone. Clearing his throat, William began to speak clearly, "Thank you all for being here. Today marks the official launch of the Fisher Group's 'Ice and Fire' collection, signifying our entry into a new market in the jewelry industry. I want to thank one person for today's success."
At this point, William paused deliberately, his deep gaze falling on Margaret in the audience.
Then, his magnetic voice rang out again. "She is my fiancée, Margaret Scott."
Thunderous applause erupted, and countless envious eyes turned to Margaret, making her feel a bit embarrassed.
Just as Margaret stood there frozen, she heard William's deep, cello-like voice again. "Margaret, may I have this dance with you?"
