Chapter 221 The Fisher Group Lost
"What'd you find?" Margaret's eyes darkened as she glanced at Anthony.
Anthony whipped out his laptop, casually opened a video, and turned to Margaret. "Ada, check this out."
The video showed Angel and the two dudes who came to collect debts from her that day.
After watching the video, a hint of sarcasm flashed in Margaret's eyes. "Looks like William and Angel's so-called reunion was just a setup by Angel."
Anthony nodded. "Ada, there's more."
He pulled up a photo. In the pic, Angel was with a guy. Even though only the guy's back was visible, Margaret recognized him immediately. It was Ulysses.
Margaret narrowed her eyes, her gaze turning icy. There were some deep, dark secrets between Angel and Ulysses too.
Margaret spoke calmly, "Anthony, got anything else?"
"That's it for now." Anthony sent all the info to Margaret. "Ada, watch your back."
Margaret smiled lightly. "I will."
"I'll be off then." Anthony packed up his laptop.
Margaret frowned slightly. "Anthony, can you also check if there's any link between Angel and Jack Phillips?"
Her gut told her that Jack's sudden dinner invite today wasn't just a simple thank you.
"Sure thing." Anthony agreed without hesitation.
The next morning, Margaret hit the Fisher Group early and carefully recalculated the bid for the North Bay project before heading to the CEO's office.
"William, take a look at this. It's my estimated bid." Margaret handed the documents to William. William's well-defined hand took the documents and began to review them carefully.
"Is it okay?" Margaret asked in a calm voice.
William pointed to the figures on the documents and said with a smile, "Bump it up to three hundred million dollars."
"Alright." Margaret nodded, picked up the documents on the table, and held them in her hands. "I'll go tweak the numbers."
As she turned to leave the CEO's office, William's deep voice came from behind. "Margaret."
Margaret paused. "Anything else?"
William stood up and walked over to Margaret. "Tomorrow, aren't you supposed to give my grandpa acupuncture treatment?"
Margaret smiled. "I've contacted Pryce and told him about Bradley's recent condition in detail. Pryce said Bradley's situation is a bit special and needs to be postponed."
"Postponed?" William was taken aback. "Why?"
William's heart tightened. Logically, Bradley only needed one more acupuncture session to wake up. Why the sudden postponement?
"Yeah," Margaret explained unhurriedly, "Dr. Hawthorne sends me updates on Bradley's condition every day, so you don't need to worry. When Pryce says it's time for the final acupuncture session, I'll go to the hospital to treat Bradley."
"I see," William said lightly, "Thanks for taking care of my grandpa's illness."
Margaret pressed her lips together. "It's my duty."
Turning to leave the CEO's office, Margaret returned to her desk and changed the bid to three hundred million dollars.
Thinking of the info Anthony had given her yesterday, Margaret quickly typed a few lines of code. If she wasn't mistaken, the Fisher Group's bid would soon be leaked. And the company wouldn't win the North Bay project bid.
As for who the culprit might be, Margaret narrowed her eyes, her sharp gaze zeroing in on Angel, who wasn't far away.
In the early hours of the next day, her phone buzzed a few times. Anthony, who was at the hotel, shot her a message: [Ada, someone’s definitely messing with your computer!]
Margaret picked up the water cup on her bedside table, took a sip, and a cold smile slowly spread across her lips. Just as she thought, someone couldn’t hold back any longer!
The next day, the weather was all kinds of gloomy. Dark clouds were hanging low, and a storm was about to break.
Margaret was deep into prepping the bidding materials for the afternoon when Angel suddenly waltzed over. "Margaret, the final bidding meeting for the North Bay project is this afternoon. Got your stuff ready? Don’t miss anything."
"I don’t need to report to you, do I?" Margaret shot back without even looking up, still organizing her materials.
"I’m just worried about you. You know, William is dead set on getting this project." Angel looked all hurt and innocent.
Margaret impatiently looked up, only to meet William’s clear and deep gaze. She couldn’t help but think, 'Oh, so William’s here. No wonder this fake Angel is putting on a show again.'
"Margaret, how’s the prep going?" William asked calmly.
"No problem." Margaret smiled confidently.
The bidding meeting in the afternoon was set for two o’clock. Margaret and William rolled up to the conference hall half an hour early. When they got there, Jack and Ulysses were already chilling.
Margaret’s peripheral vision caught Angel exchanging a sneaky glance with Ulysses as she passed by BPL’s seats. Margaret smiled slightly. Looked like her suspicions were spot on.
At two o’clock, the host took the stage and kicked off the bidding meeting, "Now, we’ll reveal the bids from each company. The highest bid wins."
The host started announcing the bid amounts, and the conference hall went dead silent.
"The Collins Group, two hundred and thirty million dollars."
"The Fisher Group, three hundred million dollars."
"BPL, three hundred million and one dollar."
"So, the winner of the North Bay project is BPL! Congrats to BPL! Congrats, Mr. Phillips!"
As the host’s words dropped, everyone was stunned. The Fisher Group, the top dog in Ravenford, known for its market dominance, had lost to BPL, a company that had just moved from Aurorania, by a single dollar.
"How is this even possible?"
"The Fisher Group lost the North Bay project by one dollar. Someone must’ve leaked the bid."
"Obviously, there’s a mole in the Fisher Group."
People couldn’t help but start whispering. After all, it was the first time the Fisher Group had lost a project.
Margaret pursed her lips indifferently. The bid being leaked and the Fisher Group losing by one dollar were all part of her plan. She glanced at William, whose expression stayed as stern as ever, showing no reaction to the result.
Angel grabbed William’s hand, her eyes filled with anger and concern. "William, how could this happen? Our bid was leaked! You’ve got to punish the person responsible!"
