Chapter 164 Bradley's Heart Attack

Margaret's hands were locked in William's grip, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake him off.

"Margaret, why'd you bail on the engagement ceremony?" William asked again, seeing her stay quiet.

For a split second, William's tone made Margaret's heart soften. She shut her eyes, and the image of William and Marjorie hugging that afternoon flashed in her mind.

After a few deep breaths, she opened her eyes, now icy cold. "Why? You seriously don't know?"

"Because of Marjorie?" William frowned. "Didn't I tell you I'd explain everything about her?"

Margaret let out a bitter laugh.

Just then, Bradley, leaning on a cane and supported by James, hobbled into the lounge. "William, Margaret, what the heck is going on?" Bradley barked, his face a mix of anger and worry.

"Grandpa." William quickly let go of Margaret and rushed to help Bradley.

"Did you do something to upset Margaret?" Bradley's face was stone-cold, and he tapped his cane, his tone sharp and icy.

Before William could say a word, Daisy strutted over, clearing her throat. "Oh, Dad, why are you blaming William?"

She shot a nasty look at Margaret. "It's clear as day that canceling the engagement is all Margaret's doing! She's just a country bumpkin with no manners! On such an important day, if she wants to make a fool of herself, fine, but why drag the Fisher family into it?"

Abigail jumped in, piling on, "Exactly, how could William have done anything to upset Margaret? On this perfect engagement day, Margaret turned it into a complete joke, making the Fisher family look ridiculous!"

Listening to Daisy and Abigail's back-and-forth, Bradley suddenly felt a tightness in his chest. He clutched his chest and looked at Margaret. "Margaret, tell me, what's really going on?"

"Thank you for your concern all this time, but I'm sorry, I have to cancel the engagement with William today." Margaret's voice was firm and unyielding.

"Margaret, is it because William..." Bradley started to say more, but a sharp pain twisted in his chest, and he swayed.

With a loud thud, Bradley hit the ground.

"Grandpa, Grandpa! What's wrong?" William rushed forward, trying to catch Bradley, but he was too late. Bradley's face was pale, drenched in sweat, and his eyes were shut tight.

"Grandpa, what's wrong?" William's heart pounded, and he squatted down, shouting. But Bradley didn't respond at all.

"Call an ambulance!" William's voice cracked with panic as he saw Bradley unconscious.

People crowded around, and the lounge turned into a chaotic mess. Peter quickly dialed 911, his voice shaky. "Hey, we need an ambulance at Sunset Haven Retreat, an old man just collapsed! Hurry!"

Margaret's heart clenched as she stared at Bradley lying there. It looked like he was having a heart attack.

She was about to rush over to help, but Daisy and Abigail blocked her. "Margaret, haven't you done enough? What are you trying to do now?"

"Move!" Margaret's voice was ice-cold and firm. Bradley's condition was serious, and she needed to start first aid before the paramedics arrived. Otherwise, it could be really bad.

Abigail sneered, not budging an inch. "Margaret, who do you think you are? Now that you've dumped William, you're nothing! You have no right to go near my grandpa!"

"Move!" Margaret didn't have time for this nonsense and shoved Abigail aside.

"Ouch!" Abigail yelped, glaring daggers at Margaret. "Did you just push me?"

Margaret ignored her, but Abigail grabbed her leg, stopping her in her tracks.

Daisy and Abigail were like two wildcats, clawing at Margaret. Desperate, Margaret used all her strength to break free from them and pushed through the crowd to get to Bradley. She knelt down to check on him, but William's big hand stopped her.

"Margaret, what are you doing?" William's eyes were cold and suspicious.

Margaret looked at him without a word, shoved him aside, and started CPR on Bradley. Her confident moves made William hesitate.

Suddenly, he remembered when Ella almost drowned, it was Margaret who saved her with CPR. And when they were stuck on that deserted island, after he got attacked by a big fish, his wound got infected, and he had a high fever; it was Margaret who treated him.

So, Margaret knew medicine?

Margaret was fully focused on saving Bradley, tuning out the chaos around her. She felt a pang of guilt. If she hadn't canceled the engagement and shocked Bradley, maybe he wouldn't have collapsed.

Ten minutes later, the ambulance arrived. The paramedics rushed in.

"Doctor, please help my grandpa!" William, usually so composed, sounded frantic.

"The patient had a heart attack and needs immediate resuscitation!" The doctor quickly assessed Bradley, looking serious, and started hooking him up to emergency equipment.

William followed the paramedics to the ambulance, stopping briefly by Margaret.

"If anything happens to my grandpa, I won't forgive you." William's icy stare cut through her before he walked away.

That cold look made Margaret's heart ache. She hadn't meant for things to go this way.

But wasn't William the one who started all this? If he hadn't been so wrapped up in Marjorie, would she have called off the engagement?
