Chapter 479 It's Better to Face Reality
In the end, she glanced at William with a playful smile and teased, "Well, that depends on how you do. Otherwise, no deal."
William clicked his tongue, ready to half-jokingly scare Margaret when Zane suddenly burst in, followed by a flustered Peter. Seeing William and Margaret, Peter quickly apologized, "Sorry, Mr. Fisher, Mrs. Fisher, he just barged in saying he wanted to see Ms. Scott. I couldn't stop him."
Margaret felt a headache coming on as soon as she saw Zane. Typical of someone in their early twenties, he was overly enthusiastic, even for a Fleurancian.
Zane snorted, staring intently at Margaret. He only noticed William after a moment, his eyes widening in surprise.
The man who had blocked him from asking for her contact information that night.
Zane shouted, "It's you! Are you the guy who was on the phone with Margaret?"
William nodded at Peter, signaling him to go about his business. Once the office door closed again, he looked up with a confident smile, his presence commanding as he faced Zane.
William replied, "Yeah, I'm her boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" Zane responded quickly, seemingly unfazed. His gaze lingered on Margaret for a second before shifting to William, a wild and challenging look in his eyes.
Zane added, "From now on, I'm going to compete with you fair and square. I like her too, and I'm going to pursue her."
Margaret sighed, feeling helpless.
Getting involved with William, who was prone to jealousy, and now Zane, who couldn't take a hint?
"Pursue her?" William chuckled, looking at Zane with disdain, thinking he was overestimating himself. He pulled Margaret into his arms, catching her off guard.
William added, "Not only am I her boyfriend, but I'm also about to be her fiancé. We're getting engaged next week, Zane. I think you should face reality."
Margaret pressed her lips together, unsure of what to say.
Despite William's provocation and not-so-kind advice, Zane seemed undeterred. In his world, persistence meant nothing was unattainable, especially since he genuinely liked Margaret.
Love at first sight.
He was naturally drawn to the pursuit of free and romantic love, believing that he had to give it a shot with the girl he fell for at first sight.
Zane retorted, "Why should I face reality? You two aren't married yet, right? As long as you're not married, I still have a chance. Until the last moment, who knows if Margaret might fall for me?"
Zane's confident reply made William laugh.
This guy was overly confident.
"Then let's wait and see. If you have nothing else, please leave. I'm taking my fiancée to dinner."
William didn't hold back, issuing a clear dismissal before leading Margaret out without another glance at Zane.
As they left the company, Margaret sighed, "I really don't understand what he's so fixated on."
William held her hand, glancing at her expression before suddenly laughing and shaking his head.
Margaret looked at him, puzzled. He had been angry in the office, so why was he laughing now? And so inexplicably.
"What's up?" she asked, confused.
William shook his head, "Nothing, just thinking about Zane's face earlier. It's kinda funny. Not that I'm laughing at him, but it just shows how attractive my wife is. Understandably, others like you."
Margaret stared at William for a couple of seconds before laughing, "You were so mad earlier, I thought you were gonna start a fight with Zane."
William wrapped his arm around her shoulder, "That was just a moment of jealousy. Seeing my wife being pursued by someone else, no man wouldn't be jealous."
They laughed and chatted as they walked to a restaurant downtown for dinner.
"Margaret, I can't wait to marry you," William said, still annoyed by Zane's challenge.
Margaret smiled softly, "We'll see how you do."
Night fell.
At Enigma Bar, the lights were bright, and the atmosphere was intoxicating.
Seraphina sat in a booth, downing her drink in one gulp.
The spicy liquid made her cough, and she covered her mouth, drawing the bartender's attention.
"Another one." Meeting the bartender's gaze, Seraphina pursed her lips and pushed the empty glass over, trying to sound tough.
"That's a strong drink. Be careful not to get drunk," the bartender said, glancing towards another booth.
"None of your business," Seraphina snapped, watching the droplets slide down the glass.
She sniffed, but the bar's music turned into Lyle's words.
Lyle once said, "I've always seen Seraphina as a sister."
A wave of bitterness washed over Seraphina.
Even though she knew Lyle liked Margaret, hearing him say he only saw her as a sister was still incredibly painful.
Biting her lip, Seraphina gripped her glass, realizing she had been deluding herself.
She had silently loved Lyle for so long, finally mustering the courage to confess, only to be rejected. Yet she always felt he treated her differently.
His kindness, his smile, everything about him...
Thinking of this, Seraphina's eyes reddened, her grip tightening on the glass.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Seraphina's eyes lit up as she quickly checked it, but her hopeful smile faded when she saw the caller ID.
"Seraphina, where are you? There's a shoot tomorrow, and the script has been delivered," her agent's voice came through the phone.
"I don't want to..." Seraphina murmured, downing her drink again.
Hearing the loud music, her agent's tone grew anxious, "What's all that noise? Where are you? Are you at..."
"Shut up," Seraphina interrupted, hanging up on her agent for the first time. The alcohol made her head spin, and she vaguely saw someone approaching.
"What a coincidence!" Rex said, sitting next to Seraphina, "Here alone?"
Seraphina recognized him immediately, frowning in displeasure. Rex had been persistently bothering her, causing trouble for Lyle when he stood up for her.
She hadn't expected to run into Rex at the bar. Seraphina had no intention of engaging, standing up to leave, but she felt dizzy.
