Chapter 489 Plan Successful

William nodded at the words, then suddenly let out a low, deep laugh that sent a shiver down Margaret's spine. She quickly grabbed her coat from the bed, threw it on, and hurried to the next room to knock on the door, calling out a disgruntled Zane.

"Did the plan work?" Zane asked, looking rather glum, without a hint of a smile, but not exactly angry either.

Margaret nodded and returned to the original room with Zane, turning to formally thank him. "Zane, thank you. If it weren't for you, I might have ended up in the news again today."

As she spoke, she instinctively glanced at William, which made Zane feel a mix of emotions.

He couldn't believe it—he couldn't compete fairly with William?

William smiled and stepped forward, extending his hand sincerely, different from his usual polite demeanor. "Thank you. If it weren't for you, Margaret might have been set up. I don't want to lose her."

Zane looked at William's outstretched hand but didn't shake it. Instead, he crossed his arms and said, "Don't think that just because you thanked me, I'll pretend nothing happened. Even though I helped you today, it doesn't mean I'll give up on Margaret."

Margaret's smile froze, and she looked at William in confusion.

What was going on?

Hadn't she made things clear to Zane?

William's fingers twitched slightly as he slowly lowered his hand, looking at Zane without any anger. He wanted to see what Zane would say next.

Sure enough, Zane straightened his neck and said, "Even though I almost got set up too, I won't give up on Margaret. I'll compete with you fairly!"

William was speechless.

For the first time, he felt no jealousy towards his "rival in love." Not only did he not feel jealous, but he also felt a bit helpless.

This was just a kid, after all. Fine, let him be.

Margaret wouldn't date Zane anyway.

William was confident in himself.

Over the past few days, Juniper's morning sickness had gotten worse. What used to be occasional nausea had turned into daily vomiting after meals. In just a few days, Juniper had lost quite a bit of weight.

Margaret called to check on Juniper's health. "Juniper, how have you been these past few days? Is the morning sickness still bad?"

Juniper had just finished vomiting and came out of the bathroom, her face pale. "I guess it's the peak of morning sickness. I've been throwing up everything I eat and constantly feeling nauseous."

Juniper looked at her reflection in the mirror, her face devoid of color, looking particularly worn without makeup.

Margaret had never been pregnant and didn't understand how severe morning sickness could be. She could only offer comforting words. "How about I make some of your favorite dishes and bring them over? You need to get some nutrition while you're pregnant."

"Is your work at the company done? Come over when you're finished. I'm fine; Samuel is taking care of me," Juniper said slowly. She knew Margaret and William were in a sweet phase and didn't want to interrupt them.

"Is Samuel taking good care of you?" Margaret asked gently. "I haven't seen him around lately, and William hasn't mentioned anything."

Juniper's face lit up with a happy smile at the mention of her fiancé's name. "Yeah, Samuel's been amazing. He cooks whatever I want at home."

During her pregnancy, Samuel had been the perfect fiancé, taking care of Juniper so well that he might as well have been fetching stars and the moon for her.

"Knowing that Samuel is treating you well, I'm relieved," Margaret said with a light laugh. She was satisfied that both she and her best friend Juniper had found good partners.

Suddenly, Margaret remembered something important and asked quietly, "How has your future mother-in-law been treating you? Has she been giving you a hard time?"

Margaret knew Juniper's future mother-in-law, Samuel's mother, Dione, didn't like Juniper. Dione often showed her displeasure openly, making Juniper feel unwelcome.

Samuel had discussed this with Dione many times, asking her to be kinder to Juniper, but she wouldn't listen.

Samuel could only comfort Juniper after she felt wronged, explaining that Dione didn't mean it.

"She's been the same, not good but not bad," Juniper said after thinking for a moment. Now that she was pregnant, Dione was polite for the sake of her grandchild, though she still occasionally made things difficult.

As the two chatted, there was a sudden knock at the door. "Juniper, are you awake?"

Dione's voice came from outside.

Juniper instinctively covered the phone's receiver. "Margaret, I have to go. Mrs. Hall is here."

Juniper hung up the phone, put on her slippers, and went to open the door.

"Mrs. Hall, is there something you need?" Juniper asked slowly.

Dione looked at Juniper's pale face and thin body, worried about the baby inside her.

She turned and took the chicken soup from the housekeeper, frowning. "I had the kitchen make this chicken soup for you. I heard about your morning sickness. Drink some chicken soup to nourish yourself, or the baby won't get enough nutrients."

The rich aroma of the chicken soup made Juniper feel nauseous.

Juniper instinctively frowned, covering her mouth and turning away, trying to suppress the urge to vomit.

"This chicken soup was simmered for hours. Everyone else thinks it smells great. Why do you feel like throwing up?" Dione said, unable to hold back. "Is your body really that delicate? Many women get pregnant, but none of them act like you."

Dione's main concern was that Juniper wasn't eating, and her precious grandchild wouldn't get enough nutrients to grow.

Listening to Dione's criticism, Juniper turned away silently, trying hard to suppress her nausea. She frowned and said slowly, "Mrs. Hall, I can't handle these smells lately. It's not your fault. Thank you for the chicken soup."

"Drink it when you don't feel like throwing up. The baby is important," Dione said, frowning. "Chicken soup is very nutritious. Don't waste it."

Dione didn't like Juniper and disliked everything about her. No matter what Juniper did, Dione felt she was being targeted.
