Chapter 72 Harm Set, Harm Get

The lighting guy saw William give the nod and knew what was up. He strolled over to the switch and flicked on the lights.

First, he aimed a cold beam at the button on Annie's back, and bam, it started glowing white. A few seconds later, he switched it to red, and the button lit up like a mini bonfire on her dress.

"No way, it actually changes color!" Everyone was floored.

Margaret grinned, "Yep, that diamond button's got some special coating. Different lights, different colors."

"Okay, now hit Annie's hands with the light," Margaret said, gripping Annie's hands tight and giving the lighting guy a look.

Annie's brain went blank, and her hands started shaking.

So Margaret wasn't bluffing. The button really did have some color-changing magic.

What now?

Annie tried to pull away, but Margaret's grip was ironclad.

The lighting guy shined the light on Annie's hands, and when he switched to cold light, her palms started glowing white.

Everyone's jaws dropped as Margaret explained, "When Annie snipped the button in the fitting room, she touched it and got some of that special coating on her hands. That's why her hands change color under the light."

Margaret gave a nod, and the lighting guy switched to warm light. The white glow on Annie's hands turned red, like some kind of sorcery. Everyone stared at Annie's hands, totally stunned.

Margaret held up Annie's trembling arm for all to see. "See? Annie's hands change color just like the button. She got that special stuff on her hands when she cut it. Now, the truth's out there for everyone."

The crowd murmured, "No way, it was really Annie!"

"Why'd she do it?"

"Man, you really can't judge a book by its cover. She tried to frame someone else and got burned."

Annie's face went from pale to beet red under the crowd's accusations.

Margaret's icy stare locked onto Annie. "The evidence is clear. Got anything to say?"

"No, this can't be real," Annie's voice shook.

How did this happen? Why did this happen?

Her plan was supposed to be foolproof. How did Margaret know so much? How did she know about the stuff on the button?

"Margaret, you set me up, didn't you?" Annie yelled, desperate.

"If you don't want people to know, don't do it. If you dare to do it, you must dare to face the consequences," Margaret said coldly, letting go of Annie's hand.

"Annie, you've really let me down." Bruce walked up to her, his blue eyes full of disappointment.

At first, Bruce didn't think Annie was cut out for this gig, but she begged for it, so he figured he'd give her a shot. But Annie blew it big time, causing a mess and making him look bad.

"No, no, babe, listen to me. I didn't do it," Annie was losing it as Bruce called her out in front of everyone. She clung to his arm. "Seriously, this is all Margaret's setup."

Bruce's eyes flicked to Annie and then to her manager. "Alright, spill it. What really went down?"

Bruce's face was ice-cold, and he had this scary vibe. "If you lie, I'll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life."

The manager went pale. She knew Bruce didn't mess around. If she lied, she was toast.

Margaret had already shown with the light that Annie cut off the button. Even if she lied for Annie, it wouldn't help. No one would buy it. Plus, after dealing with Annie's diva attitude for so long, she had no reason to stick her neck out for her.

With that in mind, the manager decided to come clean. She cleared her throat and said, "Yeah, Annie cut off the button in the fitting room."

Annie lost it, "How dare you sell me out!"

"Annie, I'm just telling the truth. I can't lie," the manager said, looking down. "I don't know why she did it."

"Where's the button now?" Margaret asked, her voice sharp.

"Annie tossed it in the toilet and flushed it," the manager admitted.

"No, you're lying. I didn't do it," Annie muttered, biting her lip.

"Do I need to have someone dig it out of the sewer?" Margaret sneered.

Annie was really pushing it.

Just then, William, who'd been quiet, turned to Peter and said, "Get someone to find it."

Peter was on it, and soon enough, someone fished the diamond button out of the sewer.

"Is this the button?" Peter handed it to Margaret carefully.

"Yep." Margaret took it and showed everyone. "Leo Studio's buttons always have a logo."

She spotted the logo right away. Too bad the button was ruined by being in the sewer.

"Now, got anything to say?" Margaret looked at Annie with a smirk. "If your manager hadn't seen it, how would she know you flushed the button?"

Annie's face went white, and she tried to speak but couldn't get a word out.

Margaret got serious, "With both witness and evidence, it's clear. Annie, I don't know why you did this, but the Fisher Group is done with you."

"What, you're canceling my contract?" Annie's eyes went wide in shock.
