Chapter 97 Your Dinner
"What the hell do you mean by that?" Olivia's face twisted with anger. Margaret was roasting her in front of everyone again?
Margaret stayed chill, "I mean exactly what I said."
"Quit messing with everyone. The truth is you copied it." Olivia's voice was loud enough to wake the dead.
Only a few folks knew about the "Ice and Fire" design at first. Now, thanks to Olivia's big mouth, everyone in the secretarial department was in the loop. The employees around them shot Margaret suspicious looks.
Marilyn was a big deal, and Margaret was just some no-name secretary. Plus, Margaret was from the sticks. How could she know anything about jewelry design? She must've taken a gamble and copied it to climb the ladder.
With all eyes on her, Margaret stayed cool, "Olivia, got anything else to say? If not, scram. We don't need crazies here."
"What?! Did you just call me crazy?" Olivia was fuming.
Margaret shrugged. "Did I say that? You said it yourself."
"You!" Olivia was so mad she could barely breathe. She took a few deep breaths, trying to keep her cool. Her goal was to expose Margaret's plagiarism in front of everyone.
Thinking of this, Olivia sneered and said, "What kind of attitude is that? You copied and still think you're in the right? If I remember right, the 'Ice and Fire' launch has a press conference in two days, right? You planning to drag the Fisher Group into a plagiarism scandal?"
"Olivia, you're just in the design department. Don't worry about the press conference. Maybe use that time to up your department's game," Margaret shot back.
Olivia's face turned red. "I've never seen anyone as shameless as you. You copied and won't even admit it. I'll tell Mr. Fisher about your Royal Radiance rip-off and get him to cancel the press conference."
"He already put me in charge of the press conference," Margaret said with a smirk.
"No way." Olivia scoffed. She believed William hadn't seen the news about Royal Radiance. If William saw it, he'd know Margaret's 'Ice and Fire' design was a rip-off. Olivia was sure William wouldn't go ahead with the press conference knowing Margaret had copied it.
"Believe it or not, it's the truth." Margaret was done with Olivia. She had a ton of work to do for the press conference in two days. No point wasting time on Olivia.
Olivia's voice dripped with venom. "Margaret, you're so full of yourself. How could he give the press conference to a plagiarist like you?"
Margaret was about to snap back when a familiar cold voice cut in. "I did give it to her. Got a problem with that?"
Margaret looked up and saw William's familiar figure. "What are you all doing during work hours?" William's stern voice demanded.
The employees who were watching the drama immediately zipped it and scurried back to their desks, not daring to make a peep.
As soon as she saw William, Olivia made a beeline for him. "Sir, haven't you seen the news? Royal Radiance's new design is a carbon copy of Margaret's 'Ice and Fire' design."
"So what?" William frowned.
Olivia was floored by his response. This was a clear-cut case of theft. Shouldn't William be firing Margaret on the spot?
She looked up at William. "That means Margaret's previous designs were all rip-offs."
Seeing that William wasn't getting it, Olivia pulled up the design pics released by Royal Radiance online and compared them side by side. "Royal Radiance's new jewelry looks just like Margaret's 'Ice and Fire.' The key part is the freeform creativity, which screams that Margaret copied Marilyn."
William shot Olivia a cold look, "Why couldn't it be Marilyn who copied Margaret?"
Olivia bit her lip. "Marilyn is a big shot in the jewelry world. She's won tons of international awards recently. How could she copy an unknown like Margaret?"
"Enough, this has nothing to do with you." William impatiently tugged at his tie.
Olivia's eyes were filled with frustration. It was obvious Margaret had copied. Why was William backing her? If the press conference wasn't canceled, the Fisher Group could become a joke in the jewelry industry.
Reluctantly, Olivia left the secretarial department and headed to the design department. She accidentally bumped into someone.
Olivia looked up and saw it was the company's vice president, Ulysses Young.
"Mr. Young, I'm sorry." Olivia quickly apologized.
Ulysses frowned slightly. "What's going on?"
Olivia spilled the beans about Margaret's plagiarism, "I just don't get what's so special about Margaret. Why is Mr. Fisher backing her? Knowing she copied, he still insists on holding the press conference. Isn't this going to embarrass the company?"
After a pause, Olivia added, "Mr. Young, you're a higher-up. You should speak up for what's right."
Ulysses sighed. "These days, the company's run by the young folks. I don't have much say."
After Olivia left, Margaret threw herself back into her intense work. She had to make sure the press conference in two days went off without a hitch. After all, it was about the reputation of the Fisher Group.
Before she knew it, it was time to clock out. William called Margaret. "Go home."
Margaret checked the time and shook her head. "I'll work a bit longer. You go ahead."
"Alright." William hung up.
As night fell, Margaret was still grinding away at her desk. Suddenly, she heard familiar footsteps, and her brow twitched.
It was William.
"Aren't you supposed to be home?" Margaret asked, surprised.
William walked steadily towards her, carrying a thermos. He placed the thermos on her desk and said in a deep voice, "Your dinner."
Margaret suddenly realized she hadn't eaten dinner yet. But how did William know she hadn't eaten? And he personally brought her dinner?
