Chapter 450 Depressed
On the drive home from David's villa, Margaret was visibly upset. William glanced at her several times, concerned, and finally asked, "What's up? You've been acting weird ever since we left Michelle's place. Is something bothering you?"
"Let's talk about it when we get home," Margaret replied, shaking her head. She felt uneasy but knew it wasn't the right time to make a fuss.
Once they were home, Margaret and William hung their coats on the rack. Margaret walked over to the couch, sat down, and took a sip of water.
William watched her closely, then sat beside her, naturally wrapping his arm around her shoulder. He smiled and said, "Alright, now can you tell me what's been bothering you?"
"I think..." Margaret hesitated, placing her water glass on the table and looking into William's eyes. "I think Michelle likes you."
William let out a puzzled sound. He had no idea why Margaret would say that, and he hadn't noticed anything unusual about Michelle.
"What do you mean she likes me?"
Margaret was momentarily taken aback. She hadn't expected William to ask that, but she vividly remembered Michelle's look. Women's intuition is always sharp.
"Didn't you notice her expression when I mentioned you were my fiancé? Tell me honestly, do you like her?"
Margaret was usually calm and rarely showed such emotion in front of William. He was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh softly, his eyes full of tenderness.
"What are you thinking?" he said gently, playfully tapping her nose.
"I've been focused on you the whole time. When would I have had the chance to notice another woman? Besides, you know, today was the first time I met her, and we only exchanged a few words. You heard everything."
Margaret pulled away from William's embrace, sat up straight, and gave him a sidelong glance. She seemed to be sulking, but she understood what William was saying and felt sweet inside.
"Alright, I'll believe you for now. But let me tell you, while we're in Fleurancia, you better not go looking for her behind my back, got it?"
William laughed, shaking his head. He raised his hands in mock surrender and said, "I'm innocent! My heart belongs to you alone. I can't even remember what Michelle looks like. Okay, okay, I promise I won't contact her. Happy now?"
Margaret finally laughed, and the two of them playfully bantered, making the day pass quickly.
The next morning at eight, Margaret was already up and ready to go out. William was surprised to see her in the living room when he walked out of the bedroom.
"Why are you up so early today? Don't you want to sleep a bit more?"
"No," Margaret shook her head, locking her phone and shrugging at William. "I realized it's been a while since I visited the design studio Juniper, and I started. I emailed Juniper's assistant to keep an eye on it, but I don't know how things are now. There are some professional designs and materials there, and I want to see if anything needs my improvement. Wait for me to come back."
William nodded.
Margaret felt nostalgic when she arrived at Leo Studio. Juniper had named it after her design alias, and after Juniper moved to Ravenford, the studio was temporarily managed by others.
"I wonder if it's still the same."
Margaret walked in briskly and politely knocked on the door of the main office in the design department.
A blonde Fleurancia girl at the left desk, engrossed in her work, turned around at the sound of the knock. Seeing Margaret, she broke into a delighted smile and rushed over to give her a warm hug.
"Margaret, you're finally back! I've missed you so much!"
The girl had a few freckles on her face, and her eyes curved like crescent moons when she smiled, making her very endearing.
Margaret laughed happily, returning the hug and gently patting the girl's back. "I'm back now, Camille. It's been so long, but you still act like a kid. It makes me worry about how well you've managed the studio."
Camille Kingsley, Juniper's assistant, had been managing the studio since Juniper returned to the States. She had always been passionate about design and had made some progress.
Camille pouted, looking displeased. "No way! Since you and Juniper left, I've been running this studio. I even hired two great designers! When did you come back? Are you staying this time?"
Camille tended to chatter like a sparrow when she was excited. Margaret knew her well and liked her, so she just smiled helplessly without saying much.
Following Camille inside, Margaret sat on a chair next to Camille's desk and said, "I'm back to participate in a fashion design competition. I thought I'd visit since it's been a while. After the competition, I'll return to Solstice, so I'll still need you to take care of things here."
Camille's face fell, and she propped her chin on her hand, looking unhappy. "Why do you have to leave so soon? I thought you were back to be the pillar of the studio again. Everyone misses you since you and Juniper left."
"I miss you all too. But I must say, you've really changed a lot," Margaret said, looking at Camille with a smile of approval.
Camille laughed and patted her chest, pretending to be serious. "That's called 'seeing someone in a new light after three days.'"
As they talked about their old colleagues, those colleagues started trickling in, and seeing Margaret, they were all delighted. They surrounded her, asking about her life, where she was living, and when she planned to return.
Margaret patiently answered each question. Camille finally found a moment to ask about the design competition Margaret mentioned. "By the way, you said you're here for a design competition. Are your designs and clothes ready?"
