Chapter 172 Resignation

"Ms. Scott, no need to be so formal. If you need anything, just holler," Peter said with a friendly grin.

"Actually, could you help me visit Bradley in the hospital?" Margaret asked softly, a hint of hope in her voice.

"Uh..." Peter hesitated, looking a bit uneasy. "Mr. Bradley Fisher's still in a coma, just lying there. Even if you visit, it won't change much."

Seeing the disappointment in Margaret's eyes, Peter quickly added, "How about we wait until we find Pryce to treat him? Once he wakes up, I'll make sure you can see him."

"Pryce?" Margaret asked, confused.

Peter nodded. "Yeah, according to Patterson from cardiology, Pryce is this top-notch medical expert, the only one who can fix Mr. Bradley Fisher. Problem is, Pryce has been MIA for like twenty years. Mr. Fisher's sent a bunch of people to find him, but no luck so far."

"I see," Margaret said, deep in thought.

If she wasn't mistaken, the Pryce Peter mentioned was the same Pryce who taught her medicine as a kid. It seemed her hunch was right. Patterson was a big deal in cardiology, and if even he recommended Pryce, then getting Pryce back would definitely save Bradley.

Feeling a bit relieved, Margaret said, "Thanks. I'll be heading out now."

With that, Margaret turned to leave.

"Ms. Scott," Peter's voice suddenly called from behind her. Margaret paused and turned back. "Yeah?"

"I'm not sure if I should say this." Peter hesitated.

Margaret smiled. "Peter, just spit it out."

"Ms. Scott, don't think I'm prying, but when you called off the engagement, Mr. Fisher was really torn up. Is there something you're not telling us?" Peter's voice was full of concern.

Margaret was momentarily stunned. Seeing her silence, Peter continued, "If there's something you can't bring yourself to say to me, you should talk to Mr. Fisher. You both love each other; what can't be fixed? Why let it get this bad?"

A bitter smile tugged at the corners of Margaret's lips. "Peter, you know Marjorie's back, right?"

"So, it's just because of Marjorie? I always thought Mr. Fisher..." Before Peter could finish, Margaret cut him off, "Enough, I don't want to talk about this anymore. Thanks for your concern."

Margaret spoke calmly and then turned to leave.

Back at her desk in the secretarial department, ignoring the various looks from others, Margaret quickly typed up a resignation letter.

Holding the resignation letter, Margaret headed to the CEO's office. The thought of seeing William soon made her inexplicably nervous.

Taking a few deep breaths, Margaret knocked on the door.

"Come in!" William's deep, cold voice came from inside. Margaret pushed the door open and walked in.

William was sitting at his desk, staring intently at his computer screen. He was rocking a black shirt, his brows all scrunched up, looking like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.

When he heard the door, William glanced up. Seeing it was Margaret, his cold eyes narrowed, getting all complicated.

They locked eyes, but neither said a word.

The CEO's office felt like a tomb, dead silent.

Looking at his familiar, handsome face with those sharp features now iced over, Margaret wanted to scream, to ask why he ditched her on their engagement day to hang with Marjorie, why he was being such a heartless jerk, not even letting her see Bradley.

But she bit her tongue.

Taking a deep breath to keep her emotions in check, Margaret forced a small smile and walked up to William. She slapped the resignation letter on his desk and said calmly, "Here's my resignation letter. Please sign off on it."

William's face went stone cold. He thought, 'Moving out of Water Moon Estate wasn't enough; now she wants to quit?'

His lips pressed into a tight line, William grabbed the resignation letter, ripped it to shreds without even glancing at it, and tossed the pieces into the trash.

Margaret stared, stunned. After a few seconds, she pulled herself together and asked calmly, "William, what the hell is this?"

William suddenly stood up, towering over her, a cold, almost cruel smile on his lips. "I don't accept your resignation."

The tension in the room made Margaret frown. "Why?"

She couldn't wrap her head around it. Why wouldn't he let her quit? If he hated her so much, shouldn't he be thrilled to see her go?

After a moment of silence, Margaret met William's intense gaze and said coldly, "If this is about the 'Ice and Fire' jewelry project, don't worry. It's already on track and can be handed over to someone else anytime."

William stepped closer, his cold voice cutting through the air. "Margaret, are you that desperate to cut ties with me? For Lyle?"

His unreadable expression left Margaret at a loss for words. Facing William's piercing eyes, she involuntarily took a step back.

Margaret smirked coldly and said mockingly, "This is ridiculous!"

She turned to leave, but a strong hand suddenly gripped her waist, sending a chill down her spine. Before she could react, William had her pinned against the wall.

"William, what are you doing? Let go of me!" Margaret's words were cut off as he silenced her completely with his lips.

His kiss was fierce and dominating, filled with raw anger, overwhelming her.
