Chapter 400 Don't Think of Escaping My Control
"That's great news. Pryce has really put in the effort," Juniper said with a sigh of relief, a smile spreading across her face as she learned that Alden's leg was almost healed.
Samuel stood in the corner, watching Juniper's expression. A pang of sadness hit him, and he decided not to interrupt his friends' conversation.
It would be more awkward if they saw him now.
Margaret noticed Juniper's lingering feelings for Alden. Knowing that Juniper planned to visit him at the hospital before returning to Phoenix City, she tentatively asked, "Pryce will be heading back to Glacial Crest in a few days. Since you're back, how about we visit Alden at the hospital tomorrow?"
"Sure," Juniper agreed readily.
Samuel heard this and lowered his eyes, his thumb instinctively tightening around the edge of the plate he was holding. He pretended nothing had happened and brought out a small cake to share with them.
At the hospital.
Juniper couldn't stop thinking about Alden on the way there. The closer they got, the more anxious she felt.
Margaret noticed her nervousness and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze as they approached the hospital room. When she opened the door, Alden turned his head at the sound.
The moment he saw Juniper, he froze, his mouth opening and closing as he struggled to find words.
"Alden, Juniper has been wanting to visit you. She just got back from Phoenix City, so I brought her along," Margaret said, placing the flowers and fruit she had bought on the bedside table. She turned to Juniper, rubbing her hands together nervously. "I'll leave you two to talk. I need to make a phone call."
After Margaret left, Juniper looked at Alden, her eyes welling up, but no tears falling.
She missed him so much, but didn't know what to say.
After a long pause, Juniper managed a small smile. "Alden, long time no see. Margaret told me your leg is almost healed."
Alden forced a smile. Seeing Juniper brought a mix of emotions, but he tried to act normal, like they were just having a regular conversation.
"Yeah, Pryce is amazing. My leg is almost fully healed. He said with a bit more rest, I should be able to leave the hospital soon."
"Don't worry," Alden added, though he felt nervous and a bit scared inside, he didn't show it.
Juniper nodded, smiling. "Good."
After that, silence fell between them again. Juniper fidgeted with her fingers, unsure of what to say next, and Alden felt the same.
Maybe they both expected the other to continue the conversation, but in the end, they realized they had grown distant.
Angel had been busy with wedding preparations. Ever since her wedding dress fitting was leaked, she had been basking in the attention. Everyone knew she was about to become the wife of the Fisher Group's CEO, a powerful card in her hand.
"Alright, I'll check out the venue this weekend. See you then, bye," Angel said, hanging up the call with the wedding planner. Another call came in immediately.
Her expression turned serious, eyes filled with tension.
It was Jack.
"Jack..."
"Don't call me that!" Jack's voice was angry. This was the fourth time he had called Angel in the past few days. "Angel, I'm asking you again, did you get the plans or not? I don't have time for your games."
"Jack, William completely trusts me now. Just give me a little more time, and I'll get the plans soon," Angel replied. She didn't want to hand over the photos of the plans too early. They were her leverage against Jack, just like William.
At least, that's what she thought.
Jack's cold laugh came through the phone, filled with an ominous tone. "Fine, you want more time? I'll give it to you. But don't keep me waiting."
The call ended abruptly, leaving Angel uneasy. She quickly composed herself, convincing herself she was overthinking.
Sunday, at the jewelry store.
Angel had just finished trying on her custom engagement ring. After arranging a pickup date, she left the store, only to be grabbed and dragged away as soon as she stepped outside.
Angel tried to scream, but only muffled sounds came out. The man in black dragged her to a secluded corner, opened a black car door, and shoved her inside.
"Seeing you is never easy," Jack's voice greeted her as she tried to catch her breath.
Angel's eyes widened in shock as she turned to see Jack sitting next to her, a mocking smile on his face.
"Jack."
The sight of Jack froze her blood, her body stiffening. She instinctively tried to escape, but Jack grabbed her hair, yanking her back. She winced in pain, forcing a smile as she looked at him cautiously.
Jack's voice turned cold, his fingers tapping his knee. "Angel, I've given you plenty of time. Where are the plans I asked for?"
His tone grew harsher with the last sentence, making Angel shiver. She tried to make excuses. "William watches too closely. He never lets me into his study. Just give me a bit more time."
"Enough with the excuses!" Jack's voice was menacing, his hand gripping Angel's face as he glared at her, his patience gone.
"Let me make this clear. If you don't get me the amusement park plans, I won't hesitate to tell William you're not the real Marjorie."
"You'll never escape my control!"
Jack spat out the words, then shoved Angel aside.
Angel's eyes widened in panic, her heart racing. If William found out she wasn't Marjorie, everything she had worked for would be lost.
No, she couldn't let that happen!
Desperate, Angel quickly pulled out her phone, her hands trembling. She opened her photo gallery and found the pictures of the plans she had taken, sending them to Jack.
"Jack, these are the photos I took in William's study. This is all I have," she said, her voice shaking.
