Chapter 126 I'm Pursuing You

William's eyes locked onto Margaret's face, deep and intense like a bottomless pit. His voice, smooth as silk, echoed in her ears.

Margaret's breath hitched. She looked up, meeting his gaze, and smirked, "I have no idea what you're talking about."

William's lips curled into a sly grin. "I heard every single word you just said."

"What did I say? You heard it all?" Margaret shot him a look, feeling a mix of embarrassment and irritation.

She thought, 'This sneaky guy faked fainting to trick me! If I had known, I wouldn't have stressed so much over him.'

William reached out, his large, well-defined hand taking hers, and sandwiched it between his palms.

"You said if I woke up, you'd do anything for me. Well, I'm awake," he murmured, "so, will you marry me?"

Feeling the warmth from his hands, Margaret's heart did a little flip. "Is this your way of proposing?" she asked, pressing her lips together.

"I'm pursuing you," William raised an eyebrow, his gaze smoldering.

Margaret's heartbeat sped up. Talking about this in a hospital room felt kinda off.

She pulled her hand back and said coolly, "Everything I said doesn't count. Who told you to fake fainting and trick me?"

"A promise is a promise," William frowned.

Margaret stayed silent.

The room got a bit awkward. After a few beats, William cleared his throat. "Can you give me an answer in two months?"

Margaret thought for a moment and nodded. "I'll let you know then."

Determination flashed in William's eyes. He was sure he'd get the answer he wanted.

"Aren't you supposed to be in a coma? Lie down before someone sees you," Margaret changed the subject. "Don't blow your cover."

"No worries, the bodyguards are outside," William said calmly.

Just then, Margaret's phone rang. She glanced at it and saw Xavier calling.

Margaret answered and chirped, "Hey, Grandpa."

"Margaret, you okay?" Xavier's voice came through.

Margaret smiled, "Yeah, I'm good."

"Is the news true?" Xavier asked.

"Half true. Don't sweat it. Just go fishing or water the flowers. I'll handle things here."

"I'm not worried," Xavier chuckled. "If I'm right, the news about William being in a coma from the explosion is fake, huh?"

"Grandpa, you even know that?" Margaret bit her lip, impressed.

"I wasn't sure, but hearing you so calm gave it away. No way you'd be this chill if your fiancé was really in a coma," Xavier laughed heartily.

"Grandpa, stop with the nonsense. He's not my fiancé. Once the three-month deal is up, I'm breaking off the engagement," Margaret said, feeling a mix of shyness and honesty.

"Alright, I'm off to water the flowers." Xavier hung up.

Margaret put her phone away and turned to find William standing right in front of her, his presence icy. "Was what you just told your grandpa true?"

"You'll find out soon enough," Margaret said coolly, ignoring his displeasure. "I promised you an answer in two months."

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

"Lie down, quick," Margaret whispered.

William lay down leisurely, and Margaret helped cover him with the blanket.

She opened the door to see Jones standing there.

"Jones, what's up?" Margaret asked.

Jones glanced into the room, concern etched on his face. "How's Mr. Fisher?"

Margaret lowered her eyes and sighed deeply, "Still the same, unconscious."

"What did the doctors say? Any idea when he'll wake up?" Jones pressed.

Margaret shook her head, her face full of sorrow. "The doctor said the chances are slim."

Jones smiled slightly and patted her shoulder, trying to comfort her, "Don't worry too much. Mr. Fisher will pull through."

"I hope so," Margaret said softly.

After a pause, she seemed to remember something. "By the way, have you identified the victims of the explosion?"

"That's what I came to talk about." Jones cleared his throat. "The identities of the two victims have been confirmed. They were warehouse managers. The problematic materials were tampered with by these two."

"Why would they do that?" Margaret asked, feigning urgency.

"Well, these two had poor work performance and were reprimanded by their superiors. They were dissatisfied with the company and wanted revenge," Jones shrugged. "As for the explosion, it was an accident. One of them was smoking against the rules, and the cigarette butt fell on the problematic materials, causing the explosion."

"I didn't expect it to be like this." Margaret frowned. "Such a trivial matter caused so much trouble for the company."

"Now the news is full of reports about the explosion. I want to hold a press conference to clarify the facts and prevent further speculation about the company," Jones looked at Margaret inquiringly, "Ms. Scott, what do you think?"

Margaret nodded in agreement. "Jones, you're very thoughtful. I'll leave this matter to you."

"What about Peter?" Jones hesitated.

"Peter isn't familiar with Fleurancia's situation, and with William unconscious, it's best for you to handle the press conference." Margaret smiled faintly.

"Alright, I'll go prepare." Jones glanced at William lying on the bed and then turned to leave.

"How did I do?" After Jones left, Margaret returned to the bedside and glanced at the man on the bed.

William's eyes turned cold. Since Jones was so eager, they would play along.
