Chapter 278 Don't Be Fooled by Margaret
Margaret's words made everyone feel kinda weird right away.
The reporters had all gotten this anonymous text saying there was some juicy gossip about Margaret and Lyle hooking up, so they rushed over.
Seeing Margaret and Lyle chilling in the lounge, they jumped to the conclusion that something shady was going down because of that text.
Actually, Margaret and Lyle were just hanging out, both soaked for some reason, but nothing sketchy was happening.
Grace wasn't a reporter, so she wouldn't have gotten that text. She wouldn't think Margaret and Lyle were having an affair unless Grace sent the text herself.
Everyone turned to Grace, curiosity all over their faces.
A reporter asked, "Ms. Thomas, got any explanation for Ms. Scott's question? You keep saying Ms. Scott and Lyle are having an affair. Got any proof?"
Grace's eyes darted around, a flicker of frustration crossing her face.
She had bribed the waitresses to drug Margaret and Lyle, thinking everything was foolproof and perfectly planned. Now, she had no clue what went wrong, but the two hadn't hooked up.
The plan to catch them red-handed had flopped. But still, it was clear Margaret and Lyle were alone in the lounge.
Thinking of this, Grace shot a glare at Margaret. "I know exactly what kind of person you are! Can you assure us that there was no affair?"
With jealousy burning in her heart, Grace's fingers clenched tightly. She was determined to completely ruin Margaret's reputation.
Margaret glanced at Grace, then looked at the waitress who had just been called over, saying, "Go get security to check the surveillance, and bring over the two waitresses who helped me to the lounge and served drinks to Lyle and me."
Grace let out a sigh of relief hearing this. So that was it; she thought Margaret was gonna pull something else.
"Okay, Ms. Scott." The waitress nodded, and soon two waitresses walked into the lounge.
Margaret recognized one of them as the waitress who had helped her to the lounge earlier.
Grace jumped in first, "Ms. Scott said you drugged her and Lyle. Is that true?"
The two waitresses exchanged a glance and then shook their heads. "We're just regular waitstaff. We've never met Ms. Scott or Lyle before. How could we drug them? Our drinks and alcohol are normal. Please don't wrong us."
Their faces were calm and collected, denying everything.
"Ms. Scott also said I told you to drug her," Grace added.
The two waitresses looked shocked and quickly waved their hands. "How could that be? We don't even know you!"
Grace, feeling smug, raised an eyebrow arrogantly. "Margaret, what else you got to say now? Stop slandering others. These two waitresses are just trying to make a living at the hotel. If you falsely accuse them and they lose their jobs, isn't that a bit too harsh?"
The two waitresses looked at Margaret with fear in their eyes. "Ms. Scott, we know you're powerful. But we really didn't do it. We need this job. Please let us go!"
Tears started streaming down their faces, making Margaret look like some kind of villain.
The reporters, loving the drama, didn't miss a beat, snapping photos and already dreaming up juicy headlines. [Starlight Entertainment Boss Caught Cheating with Mr. Pennington, Mr. Fish in the Dark, Two Innocent Waitstaff Fired!]
Margaret would be roasted by the internet in no time.
Grace was getting more and more smug, thinking this was the end for Margaret.
"If you say the drinks are fine, can you drink them?" Margaret leaned back on the couch, her eyes lazy and sarcastic.
Margaret's cool confidence made Grace second-guess if she had another trick up her sleeve.
"Of course we can," the two waitresses said together.
To prove their innocence, they had the drinks that Margaret and Lyle had consumed brought over and drank them right there.
After drinking, the two waitresses seemed fine, no signs of anything wrong.
Grace smiled smugly. "Everyone saw that the drinks are fine. Margaret, just admit it. Stop dragging innocent people into this."
Then, Grace turned to the waitresses, all sweet and gentle. "You can go now. I'll tell your boss this had nothing to do with you, and you won't lose your jobs."
She kept reassuring the waitresses, looking all magnanimous and touching everyone's hearts.
Under the reporters' cameras, Grace's kind act was winning her some serious brownie points.
"Thank you, Ms. Thomas," the two waitresses sighed in relief and started to leave.
"Margaret, the evidence is clear now. No one drugged you. You shamelessly seduced Lyle in the lounge."
"Ms. Thomas, please stop making things up. It's not like you said. I was just here discussing the plot of the next movie with Margaret, nothing more," Lyle, who had been quiet, suddenly spoke up, using his tall frame to shield Margaret.
Grace was stunned. "Lyle, you..."
Grace's heart sank when she saw Lyle, the man she loved, openly protecting Margaret.
Before she could finish, the two waitresses who were supposed to leave exclaimed, "Mr. Fisher."
Grace's mind raced, and she turned to see William's tall and imposing figure. He walked in like he owned the place, his presence commanding the room.
William's face was icy, giving off a vibe that made everyone shiver and step aside.
"What happened?" William walked up to Margaret, asking.
Facing Margaret, his cold eyes softened a bit.
Before Margaret could speak, Grace jumped in, "Mr. Fisher, don't be fooled by Margaret. She was just here seducing Lyle, betraying you!"
